One time i brought a rubber rat snake to school and everyone thought that it was real, venomous, and would eat everyone in a single sitting. Like no. It's a toy the length of my forearm, real ones aren't even venomous and also they can barely choke down a rat, much less than 80 seventh graders
Edit: I was in a health/PE class in Jacksonville Florida. There probably wasn't actually 80 kids in the class, more like 60-70. But yes, the children are that dumb. What's even dumber is that it was a magnet school, preparing kids to go to medical school

    • @tyjoseph7343

@P Z - Ball Pythons use a mix of both their Jacob's organ (the reason they taste the air with their tongues) and their heat pits to detect prey. if they prey is cooler or cold, the snake may pass it as not a good prey item as it has no body temperature. Also, if they've eaten recently, they may also not be attracted by the scent as much, and those two factors combined, are probably why they aren't going ballistic.

This video truely helped me figure out what size rodent to feed my first ever ball python. I was told she was like a year but she looks like a baby and was kind of skinny so I think they were feeding her to little. They were giving her one pinkie every two weeks but since I learned from this video about feeding I now give her an adult mouse once a week and she isn't hungry all the time. Before seeing this video I was feeding her one pinkie and one fuzzies in the same day once a week but I didn't want over feed her or make her work to hard eating since she wasn't very strong yet I wanted her to feel full. She is now doing great. Very friendly and more active.

Got me really good too and in front of my 6 year daughter. I had to play it off like it didn't hurt at all because that's her favorite snake and I didn't want her to become scared of pixie.

I feed my corn 1.5 to just under 2x the size of his body once a week.. Purely because he's a very slow grower and it's a little worrying, plus, he strikes and eats so much better on a bigger meal. I think it varies from snake to snake, but this is certainly a good beginners guide :)

How do I convince my parents to do frozen rats???? Right now we feed him two live mice and he looks a little under weight. They are grossed out by the fact that they would have to have dead frozen animals in the freezer. He definitely needs a bigger meal and I don’t wanna give him a live rat because that would be a injury to him waiting to happen. He’s a two almost three year old ball python.

I make sure my frozen thawed are warmed up in warm water right before feeding so they simulate the warmth of a live animal and I have tongs that I hold the tail off the mouse/rat and wiggle it to simulate movement. Never had any trouble using these tricks hope they work for you :)

I actually found this video EXTREMELY helpful. Before I didn’t really know if I was feeding big enough rats to my ball python. I was feeding him small rats (3 1/2 - 4 inches roughly) and I thought that I might be feeding too small. Recently I got a medium rat and it looked huge (about 6 inches) so I didn’t want to feed him it.

Lyra M From what I’ve heard, you’d usually use heat mats with most snakes. Ball pythons in particular like to hide, so they’re not going to be out basking under a heat lamp like garters would. They, like most snakes, prefer to get their warmth from the “ground” underneath them.

With snakes with heat sensing pits, getting them roughly body temperature can help. I suggest doing a Google search for snakes that were attacked during live feeding, since live prey can kill them. It's more fair to the snake and the rodents to make the effort.
