Another interesting and informative video from Lawrence Chard.
Always tells us the very essence of whatever chosen subject he selects.
Always packed with useful information and delivered in a relaxed and professional style.
Round of applause for the man in the stripey shirt.

Exactly what I needed seemed like no nonsense realistic advice. I am interested in the lowest premium spot price Britannias and Sovereigns. If buying newly minted with the slightly higher premium do they come in a plastic sleeve or do you provide capsules as I want some to give as gifts to encourage investing. If they were VAT free 100 silver Britannia’s would be a lovely thing to start silver investing.

    Hello Lawrence,
I am relatively new to coins etc and this question might seem silly but I have not been able to find the answer by other means!
Why are British standard hallmarks not used on Sovereign and Britannia coins?
No doubt you will know and I would appreciate your views on the subject?
    Thank you.
    Regards.

Coins have never needed to be hallmarked, primarily because the designs on them are official stamps which already indicate or guarantee the prcious metal content. Coins have existed since about 350 B.C., well before hallmarking was introduced.

The key with coins over bars is that coins are capital gains tax free, i understand. That is a huge reason for buying bullion coins over bars? Maybe I missed that point in the video, but say you sold that sovereign from the sixties now, there is no capital gains tax to pay. With an equivalent bar lots of your profit goes to hmrc ?

    • @lawrencechard5914
      @lawrencechard5914 Před 3 měsíci

There is no "right" or "wrong". For a big investor it makes sense to consider the CGT liability. If you are unlikely to get hit with a big CGT bill, then stack what you enjoy owning, and don't worry too much about a potential eventual tax charge.

But in avent of currency collapse they say to buy things its got to be silver coin of your country .am I in good possession possession of other country's coin or should I swop all for brit britanias ?

I would not advise swapping, as there will be extra cost involved. Enjoy owining what coins you have already bought, but think about UK stuff in future. As Isay though, if you wish to invest, rather than collect, I advise gold because there is no VAT to pay on it, unlike silver.

@@tntwentyone2951 If we are talking about gold, then our best sellers are one ounce Britannias, and sovereigns.
When you say "buyers market", does that mean for us as buyers, or for people buying from us?
As dealers we aim to keep our sales and purchases in approximate balance.

@@tntwentyone2951 I thought I had answered this earlier, but... I presume you were thinking about gold. One ounce gold coins are our biggest sellers, followed by sovereigns. Bigger investors would rightly avoid paying higher percentage premiums for smaller sizes.
