    This video is hard to understand because it’s about my subjective personal feelings not objective reality. It’s about how skating certain trucks makes me feel. It’s about how I feel when I watch certain people Skate on certain trucks. You have to be able to think in a very abstract way to understand what I’m saying in this video. Some people can’t even think in picture form or video form they think verbally. You need to be able to think in both ways.

    Tiago Lemos is probably more technical than most indy riders. By the way this is one of your most interesting videos in the last month please keep these types of videos going up. By the way only tried indy yet ( out of the real skateboard truck brands ) apart from generic trucks that aren't meant for real skating but I want to try some other brands Edit: Tried aces

    As a almost 50 yr old skater, ( started at about 10 ), having skated Indys for 99 percent of that time, your assessment of an indy rider is spot on, at least for me. I first got Indys because I was bending hangers like a banana from bomb drops and stairs. Now more bowls, pumptracks and hills. still running the same layout, big board with og bullet 66's.

      Yeah, I know I’ve stated that shape. I have a video on this channel skating it. I’ve just seen several skaters over the years send that they skate a slightly different shape than what they sell. I made this video pretty good tonight. I didn’t have time to watch every single Skateboard set up on the Internet. I edited this whole thing with in an hour so I could get some sleep. There’s a few specific board set up videos. I want to do a reaction video to. I think it’s interesting that Dave Bachinsky and Chris Roberts Skate is 7.5. Not sure how tall they are but they are really thin guys.

    Jaako, Tyler Surrey, Nassim, Denny Pham, bunch of Barcelona dudes all skate Indy. Jacopo on Baker skates Ace. I think it’s more of a American thing where the branding is based around a particular culture in skating. There are definitely advantages in certain brands for certain qualities, but it’s a combination of environment, skill set and culture.

    It's always interesting to hear people thoughts and preferences. I started on Ventures in 1999/2000, then went to Thunders. I loved how Thunders felt, but I broke 2-3 kingpins on them between like '06-'09 and just never got over the mental thing with that. Couldn't quite trust em. Then I went down the rabbit hole and tried every other brand and would bend axles on Krux and Silvers. I ended up skating Destructos and Indys after that. Right now I'm running my old Indy Stage 9s that I found boxed up in my basement and I love them!

  • @colemyers7250
    @colemyers7250 Před 18 dny

    I've always been a gearhead when it comes to the various sports and activities I pursue. Whether it's mountain biking or skiing, I've come to realize that one person's perfect setup might be another person's worst. This holds true for skateboarding as well, where numerous factors such as weight, height, mobility (especially for us older skaters), skating style, and typical terrain all come into play.
    I recently experienced this firsthand when I switched from Indy to Thunder trucks on my 8.25 deck. Due to a severe ankle dislocation I suffered a while ago, I don't have full range of motion in one of my ankles. This has made it difficult for me to feel stable doing flat ground tricks on Indys, even with them tightened significantly. My ankle immobility causes me to bend forward when landing, resulting in an unwanted tilt and pivot of the trucks. However, switching to Thunders and tightening them up significantly solved this issue. I now feel much more stable landing on my deck, and my flat ground tricks are more consistent and crisp.
    I noticed a significant difference the moment I stepped on my skateboard. Just as with other sports such as skiing, where different ski shapes and widths can dictate how one rides, the nature of skateboard trucks can influence riding style. Indy riders tend to ride similarly due to the truck's characteristics, and the same goes for Thunder riders.

    i've used both for a long time, for now i'm riding indy's but they are both the best trucks on the market imo. With thunders i feel more in control of the board, more capable of doing technical stuff (they feel way lighter than indy's) , kinda more confortable, lock in better, but i get more wheelbite and their bushings ALWAYS explode. With indy's i feel like it's more fun to skate because of their turnability and it seems like they give me a "better" style/steez, i think they are more reliable cause i never had a problem with the bushings or pivot cups, i also like how they grind on crusty ledges, but because they are taller i dont feel as confortable jumping gaps and i get ghost pop/flick ocasionally. I really don't have a preference between indy's and thunders so i go back and forth between these two trucks.

    im a venture guy and they very similar to thunders but just slightly different like they have heavier pop due to longer wheelbase and they lock in even better on grinds because how they turn and the shape of the hanger and bonus to them compared to thunders is that their baseplates stick more way more out. Also they turn fine if you break in the bushing or change them. I used to use deluxe supercush 88d bushing on ventures and that made a big difference but nowa days I have frankenstein bushing setup haha

I found my happy spot with destructo d1 mids, to me they are the best parts of both the indys and thunders with none of the down sides to ether. So much grind clearance, they are are slightly higher than indys so no wheel bite, the turn is great and they are not wobbly but have a nice turn.

    I think Destructo D1's are a mid point between Indys and Thunders. They can turn even more than Indys. And the axle is located at mid point too. Thunder being further out. And Indys closer to the center of the board. And Destructo's baseplates do stick out, like Indy's. And over the skaters, Dennis Busenitz skates so fast, and rides Thunders. Nick Dompierre used to ride Thunders too.

Pretty stable but not quite as stable as Thunders. Pretty surfy feel but not quite as sharp a turn as Indys. The only issue for many is the height. You'll need risers unless you have tiny wheels. A deal breaker for many. 1/8 if you want close to Thunder height and 1/4 if you want close to Indy height.

    Hey Michael. I bought 139 silver stage indy’s for my 11yo old kid’s setup ( 8.0 quasi spitfire 54mm f4 ). Do you think it is a good setup ? Is it heavy or bad for him ? He is trying to land a kickflip

    • @MichaelRelevant
      @MichaelRelevant  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Everyone is different and people can get used to any variation in weight. It might be easier with a smaller lighter set up to learn to kickflip.

    i swear all the boards they ride are based off the 90s/00s shapes i grew up with, like they're stuck in the past. not saying that's a bad thing, feels more like an observation where the industry moved on/changed and they stuck with something that worked for them since then. i'm larger than average, so i always hated those shapes with short mellow tails, no concave, tiny wheelbases because i've found out that for my size, i need a board i can put a lot of weight & energy into; i like big steep tails, good concave, big wheelbase for my height. i do concede that most of those small, flat pro setups are actually objectively the closest you can get to physically perfect though, like literally how the physics of skateboarding works. me though, i'm never straying from my indy 159s, so everything else is built around those.

    • @MichaelRelevant
      @MichaelRelevant  Před 11 měsíci +4

      I’ve skated with him once. I feel like these days, he skates, a lot of demos. He jumps down things. So he’ll sit around at the demo for a while and then he’ll do a front side flip off the biggest thing at the park. He has that little Squirrley turn at the end after landing a frontside flip. The guy from Powell Peralta the met with me sit Andrew Reynolds skates dragon wheels exclusively now. He could be wrong, but that’s what he told me. It makes sense for the kind of stuff he skates. He’s pretty tech though but he dose skate like an Indy guy. This video is hard to understand because it’s about a feeling that I have.

    I don't really think thunder or indie base their teams around how the skaters skate, just the best skaters they can get. Same with the skaters, they just take whichever sponsor is gonna treat them the best or pay them the most money. Like for instance thunder recently did a Collab with frog and also gave two of their skaters a pro truck. Frog has the most surfy, cruisy, mellow skaters out there but that doesn't really fit the "tech god" thunder rider. Just like Jacopo on ACE, hes a super tech god skating the surfiest trucks out. Theres more examples, but you get the idea. They take what they can get.

    Dan Corrigan skates Indy 159, he's a tech skater more than anything. It all depends on your perference, yes Thunders and Ventures are better for tech Linear skating but it doesn't mean they are versatile like Indy, which is a all around type fo truck and great for transition skating (due to its turning geometry) which Thunders and Ventures are not known for. Also you can still ride Indys super tight and still get a good turn if you lean into it but you can't say that about Thunder and Ventures riding loose, it all comes down to the turning geometry of the truck and what you perfer or what type of skating you do more..
    Also when you said Thunders lock in more than Indys, you're probably talking about the metal on the hangers, Thunder is known to be soft while Indys are hard and durable, Ace is buttery soft for grinds and Ventures is hard as rocks.

      @@MichaelRelevant 159 8.75 is what I ride also 149 8.5 truck weight difference is close to none but you get a wider truck and I don't skate tech or do flips why I don't ride Thunders.. I have a set of 149 Thunders hollow lights on a 8.25 but I don't skate that board anymore lol cause I rather skate park and transition and go fast on my other decks 8.5 or 8.75.. like I said what trucks you ride and use is a matter of preference and purpose kind of like what's the best tool for the job..

      @MichaelRelevant  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Yeah, I put him in the video. He’s really good. I guess it’s not really that they’re not tech it’s that they have that in the style where they swerve a little bit before and after their tricks they pop things higher. So Indy and ace are harder to do tricks on but when you do the tricks, they look better.
