    This is exactly a video I needed today. Thank you, Göran. Getting a step closer to my goal is worth the struggle today. After all, if I don't feel up to more, I can cut the run a bit shorter.

    I started couch to 5k in a desperate attempt to get healthy (was 40lbs overweight, a smoker and very sedentary.) Never expected to love it, and I didn't for a long time 😅
    What made the biggest difference was when I noticed the effect on my mental health & ADHD. Once I realised how much better I felt - happier, calmer, more focused, more confident, and with a real sense of achievement and pride - I was hooked.
    If I don't want to go for a run I just remind myself how great I'll feel afterwards, and I tell myself it doesn't need to be a great run, I just need to get out the door!
    Going for adventures really helps me too, and I'm the sort of person who always wants to be working towards a big, exciting goal - currently training for my first ultra :D

      Oh, and I stopped smoking, lost the 40lbs, and am now a very active and healthy person :D
      I can't go back in time and change my previous unhealthy habits, but I can do all I can to improve my health going forwards 🥰

    I usually never struggle to find the motivation but on the rare occasions when I really do not feel like going for a run I just tell myself to make do with a short run, or an easy run, and sometimes those runs turn out to be up there amongst my best runs. And even when they are not I feel that the consistency of getting my runs in, even on a bad day, is a lot better than skipping the run and spending the day feeling 'guilty' instead. I run 6 days week and keep Sunday as a rest day, which seems to work really well for me.

    • @wolger
      @wolger Před 3 měsíci +1

      This is so true. Short runs for me too.

  • @johanrg70
    @johanrg70 Před 3 měsíci +6

    I agree, motivation is important, if you're not motivated to run, then why would you run? And I mean in the sense of being motivated to be a runner. That said, day to day I don't think you should rely on motivation because you're not going to be motivated every day. I'm more for setting up my life in a way that makes it easy to get out through the door. Establishing routines and if I run in the morning, I make sure I have everything ready, I select the clothes and shoes I'm going to use the night before and place them so I can easily just grab them. Then if I'm not motivated, I just force myself out through the door based on those routines and with pure discipline, the days when I really, really don't want to, I tell myself I can quit after 10 minutes if I still don't want to, that works wonders for me.

    I would say consitency and understanding of life: sometimes running goes well and sometimes it doesn't. Trust the process. Lately there has been extremely slow running conditions because all the melting snow so my running has as well felt slow and not so fun. Now after two weeks of not so fun runs I finally had super nice run, oh boy it felt great!

      For some reason it's not so easy.

    Motivation is key. One thing is though that i have seen in people and also in me. Some times just the part where you know you need to find different types of run can cause issues. When you are less motivated or for mor importance have less time to spend the part where you need to choose something unknown you might skip it as well. For some this is the key but not everyone. I like both. But it depends. Some days i just want to go into my dreams and just take an easy run on known territories. And some days i need to think. And some days i need to escape and then i search for new stuff to do :)
    Motivitation is key. Also the fact of the endorfins you get after is important to remember.
    You NEVER regret many runs you do. Almost none. BUT you will ALWAYS regret the runs you didnt do :)

  • @Jaigarful
    @Jaigarful Před 3 měsíci +2

    I've always just tolerated running. I don't get that good feeling afterwards, I don't get a runner's high. I also can't get emotionally into most music (Video game music does though which is weird). I have to rely on external motivations such as my long term goals to push myself.

  • @Enoch-Root

    I think shorter term to keep me motivated. "I don't want to run, it's tiring and sometimes painful. That is WHY I run, why I workout, because it's hard, because it's painful. I'm tougher though."
    Do this because they're a challenge, because they're hard.
    I don't look towards to feeling after, I know I'll feel good. The feeling if I don't do it though does motivate me, because I'll feel shitty if I don't do it... Unfortunately I got sick last week, probably covid again, and now after five days without running or other exercise I'm really feeling crap, of course part of that is not being completely over whatever I caught.

    I agree and disagree. Motivation is definitely good especially when you first start training, but I believe discipline is more important. There are definitely days when I don’t feel motivated at all, but the discipline I have developed from years of running tells me to strap on my shoes and run. It’s not even a question I ask myself anymore, I know I’m going to run every day.

    • @mvers6671
      @mvers6671 Před 3 měsíci +4

      Agree. You cannot and will not be happy to go for a run every single time. Thats where discipline comes in, and discipline in a muscle you can train. And the good thing about training that muscle is that you get better in doing other things you do not like as well. It helps against procrastination, but only if you are mindful about it, I think.
