Hahaha I never thought oboe was normal. I vetoed clarinet, vetoed about every other instrument too. Mom just went “hey, this instrument is weird like you, you should try it!” Tried it, been in love with it ever since! (6 years, am a sophomore, started in 5th grade)
My mom told me that I could play oboe if I didn’t play violin. I listened to her, and now I am in my school’s colorguard and I play oboe in concert band.

I’m in band and recently switched to the oboe. Trauma man. We’re required to bring empty pill bottles on stage to wet our reeds-

We have no OBOES, no BASSOONS, and we only have TWO alto saxophones.... our band is messed up, it's mostly filled with trumpets and trombones

Okay but the oboe’s sound is literally levels above majority of the other wind instruments
I love the oboe it’s so underrated and it sounds so beautiful
and not to mention that ur band class always forgets u exist and doesnt print out oboe music so u have to look at flute music instead 😭
As a bassoon player, all of these are necessary 🥲
