See how I modified the loco and train to improve the look: • How to Improve the Tit...
Something new, a model review! Today we're "inspecting" Rapido Trains UK's elegant Titfield Thunderbolt pack, seeing whether she passes the tests with flying colours, or whether it's merely satisfactory. Not only that, lucky you, but we also pay a visit to Liverpool to compare the real Lion against the miniature. In the next video I have also reviewed the rest of the train and Mr Valentine's bar car before making some modifications and weathering the lot to improve the look.

Love the Sam’s trains reference and to be completely honest with you and to everyone else, I never seen the titfield thunderbolt film myself
There's always time. And you don't even have to worry about summer double time!
Thanks for making this. The model looks absolutely gorgeous, and crammed with authentic detail. If I could afford it I would buy it, but till then I'll wait for a discount.
Appreciate the Sam's Train reference too. I wouldn't mind if you started reviewing 00 models every now and again.
I’m glad you chose to be honestly critical Max. This is my favourite review of the model especially because you’ll show how to improve it, which is something that should be more common in mainstream reviews. You should try giving being a review a go!
!!!!!!YOU GOT IT MAX !!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSS

What do you think of the possibility (explored by Anthony Dawson on his channel) that the locomotive we know and love as Lion is not the Lion that was built by Todd, Kitson & Laird, but is actually another Stevenson-type locomotive purchased by Mersey Docks and Harbour Board? Needless to say, if true, it ought not to take away any of our love of "Lion." It's still the beautiful, venerable creation of the 1830s (and recreation of the 1920s) and star of the finest film ever made on the theme of railway love (It is, as you put it, the "Real Thunderbolt" if nothing else). But it will take me some time to get used to it, all the same, presuming that it is true.
The most likely reason the plate on the backhead wasn't picked out in gold is because in the movie it's the same colour as the backhead
hi im here stepney and today i saw the titfield thunder bolt
Great video, Max!
I too have a Rapido Lion (1930s condition)
just one quick thing to add the "toy hook" on the back of the tender is there so you can couple up era 1 rolling stock with the correct coupling
In the film when the stock free wheeled down the grade and slammed into the engine damaging it's tender, the damage was never repaired and is still on Lion to this day IF you know where to look.
The frames might accept EM gauge but the splashers appear very close to the driving wheels. probably easier to scratchbuild (in metal of course).
Nicely done - never noticed this before, but it looks like the outboard half of the reverser lever is not bent, but hinged and attached to a separate linkage - my guess is that this is to lock the lever into whatever notch is selected for forward and reverse. So when moving the lever, you snap the outer handle up to horizontal so that you can push or pull the lever forward or back with both hands, and then push the handle back down to forty-five degrees to lock it.
Congrats on Rapido for making a quite accurate model
nice Vid
I have Rapido’s Lion in 1930s condition. Absolutely love the locomotive both real and in OO
was that a 1980s film of Lion under steam that was playing in the back ground
Great review! The Sam’sTrains joke was funny, and I liked the comparison to the real loco! I also think that the colours are a little off.
Cool
Max wher is your new layout
Also technically lion is a 14xx in a way
Do you know theirs a transfer station for were the tallclyn is or how ever you spell the name their was a transfer station were the narrow gauge railway meet with a standard gauge branch line
It’s Alex the lion
Sorry to say the whole model looks a little toy like and I think for the price more could have been done. It was a model I was looking forward to but the level of detail and finished doesn't stack up really so I didn't bother getting one.
you really love titfield dont u lol
