Conversely, when new cars are quite affordable, the price of used cars slumps, sometimes dramatically below the value of that car (in terms of its condition). It's all about supply and demand. All those auto wreckers who crushed good used cars would literally be bathing in money now had they kept the best ones in a warehouse and sold them as roadworthy cards. But in the pre-pandemic era, cars were plentiful and regularly produced in large numbers - no-one anticipated the sudden and massive downturn in production co-inciding with a huge increase in demand (but mainly by consumers not wanting to buy new vehicles due to only needing a car to get through the pandemic).
