Starfield Announces Massive Update!

- Philip, famous patchnotes reader, fails to read Starfield's patchnotes properly. Just like everybody else. Because it's super-misleading unless you're that weird person who actually bothers to read the fineprint. Whatever next? You actually LISTEN to what NPCs say to you in Starfield?!
- Hry
A whole FOV slider? In a modern video game!? Noooo…. Not possible.
The fact they didn't even add it with this update is so silly.. like, these patch notes are 100% going to confuse people
@@LaFoxxiiThat is, indeed, the thing this video is trying to show.
I uninstalled fallout 4 because it would cap itself at about 45 FPS on my 144hz monitor and brake in some parts because of my greedy desire for an abnormal, gluttonous 90° fov, and all these years later, bethesha is still giving me the finger😢😢
Remnant 2 has it, to be fair
@@BlueCrashFigurineHoldingWumpa having to go into the .ini file to change that stuff is gay lmao
Thats kind of a huge troll to have a bunch of new features bulleted in patch notes only for it to be *coming soon*
But will they have an announcement for a date for a future announcement?
A roadmap of announcement of updates
More like false advertising!
I love Elder Scrolls and the Fallout games, but hardcore Bethesda fans have become incredibly stupid and easy to please over the last decade. This is the kind of stuff that placates them.
Most honest Bethesda marketing strategy be like
So funny how CZcamsrs manage to squeeze 12 minutes out of what you showed in 28 seconds
@@2kliksphilip Just from reading these patch notes briefly and getting a 2.5 gig download I assumed all of these basic things have been added. Had literally the same reaction as you hahaha
@@2kliksphilipCome on Philip, don’t you know that you’re supposed to have a 5 min long intro that claims that only a small portion of your viewers are subscribed and then another 5 minutes of ads and filler before you get to the actual content of the video?
Phillip also frequently makes videos 12 minutes on content that could be summed up in 28 seconds (and we appreciate him for it)
@@2kliksphilip that's exactly the point. These are highly entertaining and/or educational pieces which we all appreciate you for :)
@@2kliksphilip We appreciate the careful dedication to your craft.
Starfield announces things that should have been there from the start
tbh these are probably things they had almost ready but couldnt get out in time for the actual release, dev crunch is really bad these days
At least they are doing something instead of just dodging the criticisms
At least the game released pretty polished compared to previous bethesda games at launch.
It's a triple A game. What did you expect.
@@guerillagorilla4423 i expected nothing from Bethesda, I'm here for shits and giggles
FOV slider in a bethesda game is insanity
Ironically Fallout 76, of all Bethesda games, has an FOV slider.
@@TheNightquakerthat was Bethesda Austin's contribution to the game
@@TheNightquaker So does The Elder Scrolls Online. It has two FOV sliders actually, one for first and third person.
@@queuedjar4578ESO isn't Bethesda proper.
It's funny considering all bethesda games have fov change built in, just hidden behind a command literally called "fov"
weird thing is that there was an FOV slider and a eat food button in fallout 76, and they still didnt bother porting it to starfield prelaunch.
almost as if they forgot making that game
they took it out to add in later 👍
the FOV slider is in the files already though. They just didn't enable it for some reason. Modders made that option available on release.
right, they just removed the menu option and probably the same for a lot of other stuff that is already done so they can trickle it out later and get free praise for “listening” and “caring”
like this is laughably transparent every fucking game has a brightness slider
Bethesda adding a FOV slider... Wow... I never thought I would see this day come.
it didn't come yet. 😮
great to see FOV technology is still actively being worked on at bethesda
Press the button below ESC and type in: FOV 100 110
Did they fix the mouse x and y axes having different sensitivities yet?
Fallout 76 has an FOV slider though
Larian 14 days after launch: Released 3 hotfixes and 1 patch with over 2.500 changes and fixes in total
Bethesda 14 days after launch: Released a To-Do list without timing for updates which should have been part of the initial release
And no FSR2
Larian released an unfinished product to not compete with starfield.
Larian *3 years* and 14 days after the launch.
Also the game still dips down to 20fps on the performance mode on the PS5 and does not support FSR 2 and Xess on PC.
@@mechanicalmonk2020 If you clown want to add Baldur's Gate 3 development time to the equation, maybe we should also add the 8 years of development time for Starfield - beause its just a weird Fallout 4 mod isn't it?
And when we talk about PS5s performance we might also want to add the broken support for Intel CPUs and Intel/Nvidia GPUs of Starfield? Where is XeSS Support for Starfield if its so important for you to mention? Or the fact that Graphics presets dont change the performance at all.
Just stfu. You can't win this 🤣
Dont mind the fact that the game was in Early Access for 3 years for people to test and report issues. Larian glazers are something else
Man, Bethesda's incompetency reaches levels one who couldn't even imagine
This ain't incompetence. This is straight up trolling
They will never beat rockstar games though
And yet, here you are on a Azerbaijani workfield webcams streaming platform, instead of being outside breeding women
you mean that FO76's launch was better?
The massive save face culture of their fanbase shields Bethesda developers from a lot of feedback and concerns they need to hear. It's insane what a demented cult it's become in their communities, and even in the wild such as CZcams comments you sometimes see them chanting: _"Nothing to see here, all physics games have these kind of bugs! War is Peace, Slavery is Freedom! Prophet Todd shall not be criticised!"_ I used to be on the Beth IRC back in the mid/late 2000s, it was nothing like that then, Todd would even visit for feedback.
Look at all these new features we haven't added yet!
actualy all have been added by mods
Coming soon to Starfield in a future patch:
- Engaging gameplay
"This is a patch"
"Dear God"
"There is more!"
"No..."
They announced the elder scrolls 6 five years ago and reportedly started only working on it now, i wonder how long it will take them to add a FOV slider and FSR
Bad wording in the patch notes. A lot of people thought it was already added.
I thought it was until this video
@@primtve_dope9568 Same, I fired up the game and was hyped🤣
When does starfield early alpha access ends?
December
@@DenkyMannerwhich year?
@@DenkyManner followed by early access beta? Like fallout 76?
Other than the performance issues that nvidia users have, the game is quite well done.
Gotta wait for the modders to finish the game up. Give it a year or two
I saw it happen to you in the video, but I hate it when I'm scrolling in the settings menu and the settings with sliders are changed by the scroll wheel as you scroll past them.
As a game dev, I think we're collectively killing the games industry by releasing games with tons of bugs and basic features missing. We're teaching the playerbase to not buy at release, but instead wait and buy after all the bugfixes. The thing is, by then most of the hype will have died down, and many will move on to the next thing. We're literally teaching gamers to buy less games.
which is a good thing!
quality>quantity
It's been almost a year since Valve axed the regional pricing on Steam and publishers like Capcon, Warner Bros and many indie devs went batshit crazy with prices, mostly doubling them. This alone made me 50% discount gamer.
On a bright side, I just spend now less money on games in general.
Lets hope its gonna be different with Talos Principle 2 eh?
I made that call a few years back to never pre-order anymore.
And very very few games lately I have bought on release.
I usually wait the first few weeks at minimum to see reviews/bugs being talked about at first, as well as performance as it seems with the introduction of FSR/DLSS game "optimizing" has just gone completely out the window, like that latest Jedi game dropping to THIRTY FPS in some areas on a freakin' 4090.
Like, I'm sorry Dev's, but if I need a fucking 4090 to play your game at 60 FPS, I am just not gonna play. That's a AAA dev too so you can't tell me "oh they don't have the resources to optimize" cus it's bullshit.
Never pre-order, never buy on release, wait for crucial bug-fixes or sometimes even discounts. I've got a HUGE steam library of games, a lot of which I got months or even years after release so they've got all their patches(bugfixes and optimizations) and in many cases also tons of user-created mods letting me tailor my gaming experience to whatever I want it to be.
And I gotta say, it's pretty damn great.
You must not understand what it's like to have corporate entities breathing down your back.
Bro I told all my friends yesterday "HDR AND DLSS IS HERE" then I saw.... they gonna add it in a future update.... Like why would they write it like that HAHA
Obviously to FOOL TOU, that's why. There's no other reason, c'mon.
i mean who cares?i moded dlss day 1,i wasnt about to play with 40 fps on my fucking 2k pc,i swear bethesda devs are more incompetent than gerbils
I did the SAME exact thing and then went back to the post. And here I thought this first patch was fantastic, but here we are LOL
Truly, a game changing update that fixes all the problems with the game.
Hah, I'm glad I'm not the only one who got tripped up by this!
Basically took them 2 to 3 weeks to add what modders did in 24 hours... love the AAA industry
Bethesda take like half step forward before tripping on themselves and falling down an elevator shaft
And then somehow their ragdoll shoots up and gets stuck in the ceiling.
Amazing game, 2013 visuals with 2030 pc requirements, 1080p 60fps gaming on 3090s, what a time to be alive
1080p 60fps? That's high tech stuff! Why would you want more? Most monitors only have 1080 x 1920 pixels anyway!
i liked the part where my 4070 couldnt get over 50 fps in cities,on medium....or that it doesnt have dlss, and after moding dlss i literaly gained 40 extra fps lol
Awww man, they used every single trick in the book of the agile developer xD
THIS IS EXACTLY ME AFTER UPDATING AND STARTING THE GAME!!
Can we just talk about the Eat button for food? What a time to be alive, 100/10!
No eat. Only store.
It's been a week! Still nothing! My quests are still broken!
GOD DAMN YOU TODD!
I foresaw this and was one to read it thoroughly; my predictive ability for this title is forged in obsession and disappointment
i did same thing, read exciting stuff in patchnotes, opened the game, not finding DLSS support, reading patch notes again.
Wow, they had me thinking for a moment they actually know what they're doing.
lol i also misread it and get super excited about the eat food button, i was complaining to a friend the other day about how useful that would be and low and behold its on the way
lol. Seriously though, HDR! Why are some areas just kinda grey? Also FOV - you can write an ini file rn to increase your fov but a slider should be a Bethesda feature by now lol.
I need the odgrub in space episode immediately
damn, almost removed the dlss mod to test out the built-in version.
I want a needs mod like Skyrim so I have to eat and sleep
I thought the same thing.. I booted up my game and didn't see any different options so I instantly assumed it was just misleading in the way they made the patch notes. I couldn't find any sort of definitive date for the update so who knows how long we'll be waiting. In the meantime the DLSS Mod is working quite well.
oh wow, starfield may be the single game to ever come out of friends and family pre alpha this fast
Starfield is an massive step forward for gaming. It's crazy how they've created an FOV slider that no other game had before. Todd wins once again!
That's it. You've seared this song into my head as the "Bethesda disappointment" song. perfectly used in the PLANET EARTH video and now this
What is the song called? I know it from somewhere!
Guess we can't smell em yet
I thought it was pretty obvious? It literally says the first is a small hotfix and after that expect community features including... And outlines all that.
An announcement for an announcement - brilliant bedesthda 😂
Announcing brightness slider like its some next gen graphics feature lmao
These are definitely things that couldn't have been discovered in playtesting. Bethesda definitely needed the players to tell them that they forgot to put in the fov slider
FOV is tied to the way shadows are rendered and historically changing fov changed the way real time shadows were rendered, making them blurrier, or blurry only at a certain angle which would snap in and out of full res.
That is the reason why it was not included, they have to adjust the shadows, to match various FOV levels, of which im sure is a much bigger undertaking then anyone realizes as this will be the first time they've ever done it.
Its most likely a caveat of the optimal way they have chosen to render shadows, in comparison to unoptimal brute force methods you sometimes see in other games which dont include said limitations.
This is the same reason why there is not FOV slider or options in any other bethesda game.
Now you know the logical reason, and can quit pretending to know better with such commonly regurgitated comments and join the minority that understands why this is the case, theres literally dozens of similar comments saying the same thing, but i choose you random trans flag vault 13 canteen person, with this information they might just let you back in the vault.
No offence intended, it is a very niche and rare case outcome for field of view in general, of which normally carries zero graphical repercussions.
@@MojoRisingTV Then why are the commands already in game? You can easily change the the fov with an ini file. Also, Fallout 76 has an fov slider, so there's that.
And im genuinely curious why'd you bring up my pfp as the reason why you selected me to bless me with your knowledge?
@@trustyvault13canteen32 Lol actually your right, and the fact Fallout76 has a limited FOV slider that goes to 90, also means im wrong and your right.
I did not bless you with anything other then this correction.
Took modders like 12 minutes to do this, but ok, whatever. Good job, Bethesda.
Depending on how good the calibration menu is it may be the only thing you cant mod in yet.
I thought the steam comments were from people who can't read. Never imagined Phillip to be among that crowd.
This massive pack of features worth a separate DLC
I felt it. I knew non of that was in the update but the title really misleading.
*Cries with Gtx1080*
after that, and expect is not a good word to add in the same sentence 😂
so i am not the only one who saw the patch notes, went in game to settings, be confused then go back to read the patch notes only to be incredibly disappointed. you know i think i am going to leave a negative review for this game.
got an AMD card so I would've believed the update went throughif you hadn't shown the end. :P
"smell man from 100 metres"?
The 32:9 stuff is insane bc it’s literally vanilla in games like gta v that’s almost a decade old on the pc port alone or stuff like Worms
Wait. What was the 3GB update for then??
other fixes and game breaking bugs with quests
think it was just fixing bugs and stability issues
Modders could add all these features in a day. Yet a fucking company with hundreds of people can't do that shit week after release.
Modders, calm yourselves. You finally owned it.
Wow! I can now eat food! This is revolutionary!
Starfield slowly become complete game
Mister 40000 grand for DLSS must've been in cahoots.
The quiet bit of that soundtrack really sounds like it's stolen from assassin's creed odyssey
Modders added dlss in 3 days. They are a studio with at least 100 available devs.. not even a new feature yet?? Come on dude..
My question is for those who manually enabled reBAR support in NVIDIA Profile Inspector, do we need to turn off the force toggles if we update driver? Does it conflict? Is it worse?
Also note that reBAR has to be enabled in BIOS.
500iq developer move. Release your game without standard features and add them over time to make your community appreciate you.
I dreamt that i met you in a restaurant and you were very nice
me and you are eager for that HDR update, and you know it, you dont have that PG32UQX for nothing
@@2kliksphilip Its just sad. on the new consoles, they go out of their way to support HDR properly. I have been enjoying NFS Unbound on PC, its HDR implementation just blows me away. Regarding the Video Captures issues: I had success recording AV1 4k60 HDR Footage with OBS-Studio!
Can someone explain the eat food button? Like you can't eat any of the items you collect currently?
@@2kliksphilip Ah ok, I don't remember that being a thing in previous Bethesda shtuff (part from dishonoured) cheers Silly Philly
Same! Omg I'm a simple man that doesn't bothers to read that long texts.
wow it only took them A FUCKING WEEK TO ADD A BRIGHTNESS SLIDER
I had to use custom ini file to adjust my fov in a 2023 $70 bucks game
great description loved it
The FOV can be changed through ini file, so I don't understand why implementing this to the UI is such a big deal...
Things that modders managed to add within one day lol
YOU HAD 7 YEARS TODD
Philip why do you always insist on reading me?
Chat is this real?!???
Still no ACTUAL UI? No proper map? What a waste of time.
Bamboozeled
To think it took some modder in a sweatshop in Seattle literal hours to implement DLSS and XESS. I'm glad Bethesda are taking their time to do it right.
FOV SLIDER???!! something that every game on PC has since 2008 except of course bethesda game and few others...
Finally 32:9 support, had to do a bunch of bs in the files to make it work in the release
First, an enormous [blah blah blah]
The first update is [blah blah blah]
- Brightness control
- HDR calibration
- FOV slider
- DLSS
- 32:99 support
- Eat button!!!
Oh yeah, no. Those aren't in the game haha. This was just a fix for one tiny bug out of the literal thousands
There's no way the phrasing here wasn't intentional. Fuck Bethesda

Today hotfix made my performance in cities worse than it was, now my 3070 drops to low 70% usagem fps to 40 and my 5800x stays at 60%. Used to get high 60's low 70's on cities...
undo the patch, record the fps, update again, record the patch and we can see if its true or not. I've seen a few comments but no footage yet
"yeah, i'll take the PC game without features that are standard with other pc games"
Optimized for PC, though.
epic now hopefully the 3080 can run as good as 6800xt
Modders already made an FOV slider and DLSS, why cant they do it right now
thank you philip, very cool
*Perceive value* vs *Received value* at it's finest. What's next ? Bethesda releases a driving simulator with no acceleration function, only to appear in future upgrade / patch / dlc / whatever.
incredibruh
maybe they should gave postponed launch to actually bring it to gold status.. not a bronze one
Remember people are defending this. We deserve this industry.
**They* deserve this industry. I just want to play a game without feeling like an early beta tester.
