    This song was written by Willie Nelson when he was a struggling songwriter/singer. He offered it to Faron for $500.00 but Faron said he wouldn't buy it but he would record it. Faron said that when Willie got his first royalty check "he kissed me right in the mouth" The check was for $20,000.00. Faron Young was an honorable man.

  • @RobertWelch-MandevilleLA
    @RobertWelch-MandevilleLA Před 5 měsíci +6

    i just heard the story about how this song was written. Willie Nelson was a struggling songwriter, and he was in the employ of a publishing company and was working with Hank Cochran writing songs together, but they weren't coming up with much. Hank had to leave for something one day, and told Willie while I'm gone, why don't you just write a song and play it for me when i get back. So Willie was sitting there in the office, saying to himself I have to write a song, what am I going to write about? And he looked around, saw the wall, and just said, "hello wall", and realized that could be a song. That's the brilliance of Willie Nelson. Later, as has been mentioned, Faron Young refused to buy the song from Willie, instead he loaned him $500 in exchange to sing it. Of course, Faron made a lot of money just singing it, so when Willie later told Faron he wanted to pay him back the $500, Faron said don't worry about it, but I tell you what, I know you have a cow, how about you give me a calf from that cow one day. So from then on Faron and Willie whenever they saw each other would joke about how Faron's calf was doing, and how it was growing. Some time later, Willie bought a prize bull, and had it delivered to Faron, dropping it off in his driveway with a note that said "your calf is all grown up, Willie." Faron made a good living in retirement studding that bull out, apparently. And that's the story of Hello Walls.

    The 50's and 60's were the best for country music. I guess I was lucky to have lived and grew up in that period. What they're making today isn't even close.

    I love Faron. He was the "Young Sheriff"...a great singer. It troubled him that the newcomers made so much more money than ones of his time. A tragedy when he died.

    His music has not been forgotten. It’s a shame what happened to him. He seemed like such a genuine gentleman.
    I’m a child of the ‘90s but I’ll listen to his voice over a lot of today’s country music any day. Brings back good memories of my grandfather who really enjoyed the early days of country music.
    He was featured in a 12 VHS set of 1950s Grand Ole Opry episodes that my grandfather had when I was a child. I gravitated toward his music. 20ish years later, I definitely understand why. What a crooner! 😊

    Seen this faron Young video could not pass it by my father was Young's drummer in Nashville 1960s
    My dad had the funniest stories about faron who nickname my dad clip stories of them on the bus after the show's drinking and daring each other to do the wildest things which they all done but the Nashville stories were truly the very best he had. So this is going straight into my dad's playlist favorite's they're gone now but will never be forgotten.
