The best easy way to control outdoor lights are dusk to dawn bulbs. You don't even have to think about what time it gets dark or program anything. They just turn on a dusk and turn off in the morning.

Beware light on in the day means empty house.

Studies show that LEAVING your lights on is almost as useless as having them off. It's the motion sensor ones that work, because it makes people feel like there's an active watcher, like their activities are being observed.

With how cheap security cameras are now, I just installed a few around my house. Using Blue Iris on an small computer in the basement to store footage. Set up the software to only record when motion is detected so you don't have to record all day long when nothing is happening. If I was doing it over again I probably would go with Ubiquiti Protect setup, since I already use their network gear.

Hey, I live in Argentina, here we have a lot of crime. I like to put my timers in non round numbers, like 6:27 or 6:39 or change regularly the times, so it's more difficult to establish patterns and the deception is more effective. Our houses are not like yours, we live in prisons with fences, bars in windows and doors, electrified fences, alarms, cameras, private securitty, and the list goes on 😂

There are some timers that will randomize when they switch within a certain window. I used to use one on my fish tank, and it'd switch the light off at a random time within a half-hour of whenever I set.

LED porch lights front back and side door, constant on when it gets dark. LED motion light for when people approach. They work well together

If you have above ground power lines and there is a pole with a transformer on your property you can request an led light to be installed on that pole by your power company that comes on at night automatically they even give you a remote and you just pay a small fee monthly and depending on where the light is it can light up your entire back or front yard.
