      Funny, yeah. But at the same time it's still important to know because if all you can afford is pleather you might as well buy it, cause even LV uses heavy plastic coatings, and that's basically a pleather layer, and the actual leather underneath might be the worst.

    I love LV bags, esp the canvas ones. I have two and they’re super durable and protects your belongings from rain and weather. The history of LV comes from making water proof suitcases for transatlantic ship voyage. Paris (as well as many parts of central and northern Europe) rains a lot. LV canvas bags are especially useful during rainy seasons. You see many Parisians carry their LV canvas bags when it rains and you understand why.

      This comment makes me feel better as I only just purchased PM in monogram a few weeks ago 😂. Your mention of the raining a lot in europe makes so much sense. When we were there this month it sure was raining at some parts of Europe. leather bag As most commute by walking or by public transport, carrying a leather bag will be a complete disaster. Durable canvas makes sense. LV caters for such situstion. Unfortunately most who criticised how it is not leather and dismissed it completely without understanding the history of the brand.

      I worked as a client advisor at LV. The quality is trash, canvas has gotten thinner, cheaper, it cracks and cannot be repaired. Leather bags quickly lose their luster, and lambskin wears very poorly. The hardware tarnishes, and I can't tell you how many times I had pulled out a bag from a drawer, and while unzipping and presenting the bag, the zipper came off and stayed in my hand.

    I would think that LV’s best quality non-exotic leathers are taurillon and vachetta. That said, taiga and Eli are great options even if they’re plasticized corrected grain because they stand the test of time when cared for properly. They’re also distinct aesthetic choices, and more water resistant than, say, vachetta.

    • @robertfischer5893
      @robertfischer5893 Před rokem +12

      I assume he means "quality controlled" wherein the leather is covered with a rather heavy inorganic pigmented finish such that any two random pieces from a mass production run are indistinguishable from each other when placed side by side.
      The standardized finish eliminates the presence of the natural variations found on the surface of an imperfect organic item such as leather.
      This is good for product consistency, however a low quality leather can be doctored with a standardized finish.
      However, a truly high quality, hand selected piece of leather will do all the talking. No standardization needed.
      I could be wrong.

    I really enjoyed watching your videos and learning about leather. However, I think you picked the wrong target to compare with Louis Vuitton. LV was never known for its leather. It’s legacy and long history is about their travel trunks and coated canvas. Louis Vuitton himself has a fascinating story about how he started from a homeless boy to a successful trunk maker. Epi leather is one of their very old type of leather which was created for durability, as durable as their canvas pieces.
    LV has substantially increased their price on canvas pieces in the recent years with intention to move their customer focus to their leather pieces especially the ‘Capucines’ collections. Their sales associates only receive very little commission from the canvas pieces, so they don’t even want to recommend it to the customers. However, customers are still willing to pay the expensive price for their canvas.
    Comparing leather pieces to LV’s iconic coated canvas is not a like for like fair comparison. If you look at the canvas pieces from Goyard, you will be even more shocked. They are more expensive than LV, but also well known for their travel trunks.

      Sure, they sent lawyers to Corter Leathers workshop because they thought he was in a process of making counterfited goods (which wasn’t the case) but I highly doubt they would do anything just because someone is giving out their opinion.
      I mean, he’s not the first one to do so. Sure, if you would be right, we as a viewers should be aware of this but as I said, highly unlikely. This channel does not even have that high of a social media presence although I think it should.
