Police: well there is nothing we can really do unless he does something awful to you. So once your teeth are knocked out, nose broken, some knife wounds given, come see us & we'll see what we can do.

To me, whenever I hear one of these stories that involve people threatening another person the police always say 'that there is really nothing they can do unless the creep causes harm to the one making the report, it means they won't do anything unless they cause psyical pain to another human being. I don't get that, isn't that what the police are supposed to prevent? another person from being caused harm. It seems like the police in the US are quite useless. Well, I live in Canada, and I hope I will never need the police to come to my rescue cause I've heard that they are just as useless.
There not all useless, just most of them I had a few that really helped me out when I was 19 and had a stalker ex bothering me. They actually waited outside of my house until he showed up and when he took out his binoculars to spy on me they arrested him. So some of them will help before it's to late. I do wish more of them were like that.
It's sad, but I can see their point of view as well. If they'd come, arrest and punish accordingly everyone, who has been claimed to threaten or otherwise made another person feel afraid for their safety, virtually anyone could call the cops on a person they dislike and claim the person was threatening/stalking then. And how would you tell apart the liers, anyone can be a good actor.
There must be a balance, in which the police operate in order to weed the wicked from the good. Or better yet, a special division, that only focuses on this matter.
I’m Swedish and they’re useless here too. My ex boyfriend beat me badly over several years, including a broken rib that I went to the hospital for, and scars from burning me with cigarettes. He also left voice messages threatening me. When I finally left him and decided to talk to the police about it they said they couldn’t do anything because “there was no evidence”. Every time I’ve contacted the police about stuff they’ve done nothing - my phone was pickpocketed inside a busy restaurant and they asked me if there was video surveillance (you’d think that’s their job to find out) I said I didn’t know and a couple weeks later got a letter saying the investigation was dropped because there “wasn’t any material to investigate”. Same thing when my apartment was burglarized even though I knew who did it. Sometimes I wonder what it is we pay taxes for...

The "demon exorcism" sounds more like a panic attack brought on by religious trauma CPTSD. I feel bad for the "possessed" friend. I hope he's better now, after distancing himself from triggers.
Agreed, I feel awful for him. My mom tried to perform an "exorcism" on me in the past, and now I can't stand it when people touch my shoulders or try to give me a massage.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who was more disturbed by this story from the perspective of the kid who was forcibly prayed over.
Exactly, I feel horrible for him. It brought up some nasty memories and past traumas for me and I can only hope that he is in better place now and healing

Thought I’d share my odd and kind of scary experience. I’m in a mid 20s but without makeup I get mistaken for a high schooler. About a month ago I was walking to the store, I don’t live far from it at all. As I was walking on the street that comes before my street I see a guy getting into his car. He was a black man, bald, about 5’11 - 6 feet tall and wearing dirty jeans and a white tank. He was married, I had seen him outside before. He was getting into an odd white car that had seen better days. I live in a nice neighborhood so odd run down cars stand out. After I turned the corner, that same car came around the same corner. It had slowed down almost coming to a complete stop. I pulled my headphones out and turned. “Do you need a ride?” He asked. I was wearing my workout gear because I like to walk to the store, good exercise. I said “no I’m fine.” Just then a chill went up my spine. As I was about to pass the car completely he pulled up more and asked again. I replied with the same answer. He then asked again, this time I said something that I had never said to any guy trying to pick me up, I said “I’m not underage, I’m an adult.” He then sped off and ignored the stop sign. I called the police and walked back to the street to tell the woman on the phone where he lived. When I got back from the store and walked down that same street police were outside. He was in a police car. I remember seeing an officer carrying a laptop that was kind of beat up out of his house. His wife was crying. I didn’t stare and I didn’t feel bad. That man tried picking up what he thought was an underage girl. I haven’t seen that man and soon after the house went up for sale. I do live really close to a school.... I guess he’s not allowed to anymore.

The "exorcism" story made me so uncomfortable because what if their friend was having a medical emergency? They sounded like they were having a bad reaction to "concert level" loud music and all the emotional people cornering them trying to pressure them into something they didn't want to do. Every word of that story felt very not self aware and honestly kind of cultish? I'm almost never more uncomfortable than when someone prays over me when I didn't ask.

That dead neighbour waving at the guy... My kids and I lived in an old house, next to a rather odd, old man. One day we were out in the yard, doing some cleaning up, and he came out, stood there giggling, then walked off to the back of his yard, behind his shed. Which was weird cause there was nothing back there. And he never came back. Didn't see him after that, then read his obituary. He'd died the day before we saw him.
