I've hit oil before while turning when I was on my old GL500. Managed to keep it upright. I drove 5 under the whole way home and bought a lottery ticket that night.
the projection from 'Ghidora' is pretty wild. Had 2 whole lanes and could've just waited to get behind the SUV to take the right exit, but his ego just wouldn't allow that. They were ahead of him and he had to accelerate just to end up beside them. what a clown.
I road with a group of Army guys once. After the close calls and risks involved I opted to not ride with groups. Only friends that have the same mindset as me for safety going forward.

Like to add to the d Harley guy. The vid was shot Vero Beach area of FL (city was given). The tag on the Harley was Wisconsin so he was a snow bird. He probably been drinking down here for winter on his vacation and thought it would be fun to mess with him thinking he was a kid. Situational awareness needs to be higher on a Bike just like when I drive a Semi or higher. I'm always scanning with my head on a swivel. Granted I can see further being up high but always assume that the others don't see you. Stay safe out there and stay away from the big trucks.
Damn that last one is a little close to home! I also ride a blue xsr900 with saddle bags and wear an airbag vest lol. I regularly see deer on the roads around my house... 😬
You are awesome. Keeping all your lessons, and the motorcycle handbook, in mind when I go to my motorcycle training and when I ride afterwards. Your videos are entertaining and thoroughly educational. thank you for taking the time to put them together Dan
I didn't get to see this video until late last night.....I was going to purchase the SMART Rider drill booklet, but it wouldn't let me use the discount code.
Im a truck driver, and i have taken the "Smith driver training course" about 6 times over the last 10 years. It would be awesome if they would make a course for motorcyclists, because its about accident mitigation, and defensive driving. It teaches all the things your talking about. Ive been driving a semi for 13 years, zero accidents. 98% of accidents are preventable. Most motorcycle accidents are caused by the motorcycle rider, or were 100% preventable.
There are at least 5 courses that the Motorcycle Safety Foundation teaches starting at the basic riders course up to more advanced courses. Problem is, most motorcyclists won't take these courses.
@@docvontgomery6520 Just took my basic rider MSF course online, gonna do the in person course in a week and a half. It blows my mind that this is not required to get your motorcycle endorsement in my state, but I do get a "road skills course waiver" for doing the MSF new rider course. All the road course test in my state is, is riding through some cones in a parking lot and slow rolling in the friction zone in a parking lot. Absolutely useless for actual every day riding and learning your bike, IMO. I have my CDL so I took a more professional and open-to-learning angle for my first bike and for my endorsement in general. I don't feel safe out there if I don't have a solid foundation for learning proper riding.
As a fellow CDL holder and former short term (a year and some change) OTR trucker, so many drivers and riders would learn so much from the Smith course but it's really very easy to just get your driver's license in most states with pretty minimal work, and in comparison some of the requirements to get your motorcycle endorsement are pretty much a joke once you're above 18.
@@threefoldcrossroads I agree with all of the points you made. That is also why when I start to ride, I'm going to start with the basic Riders course and move up from there. Too many unsafe and inattentive drivers at the road
@@docvontgomery6520 Unfortunately, it's far too easy for anyone to drive distracted these days. It's not going to stop me from riding and learning, though. I accept the inherent risk of riding a motorcycle and can only do so much to mitigate them myself.
5:44 When I lived in Dallas, we had a road rage incident where two cars side mirrors touched. Driver 1 got out and went up to driver 2 and started punching him through the window. Driver 2 pulled out a gun shooting and killing driver 1. Driver 2 was no billed as a self defense shooting even though driver 1 was not armed. Since driver 2 was still seat belted in his car, it was determined that he had no other way to defend himself. Now change that to a motorcycle rider wearing a helmet, gloves with hard knuckles and a heavy jacket. They aren't unarmed and are heavily protected. In this case, there were also multiple young riders versus one older person. That's called a disparity of force and puts the riders in an even worse legal position.
I used to work in Dallas on Mockingbird near I-35. Considering the terrible traffic flow there it always surprised me there weren't more incidents like the one you described.

I’m usually the tail gunner so I can see the entire group and we haven’t had any issues in years.
2:43 There is no light, stop or yield sign for the bike that stopped. But why is there a limit line there? Confusing intersection. Bike that stopped must have thought the left turn car was going in front of him. The limit line on the road may have confused the biker. Poorly designed intersections are even more dangerous than normal ones.
There was no reason for him to stop. By looking at that intersection, the line is there to keep cars from blocking the intersection when the light up ahead backs them up.
@@RomVlad Yes, agree, but it should have been a broken line maybe. Also, with the vehicles on the bikers right, he may have thought there was a stop sign that he just didn't see. It's a bad intersection. Not unusual on mountain highways. Accident waiting to happen.
