    Thirty seconds in and I know one New Years resolution that wasn't made: No corn. When my parents farmed we had a 10 footer we used behind a lighter weight 10 foot disc. Worked great. It was especially useful when we would broadcast wheat or sowing about anything. Ran the disc straight with the drag and...cover crop.

    When I have tree stumps grinded I drag my drag over the big pile of wood chips left by the grinder & it takes care of it with one pass. Also when I had a water line, after back filling the ditch I dragged that over it a couple times & it spread all the leftover loose dirt out where the rain can melt it back down into the ground quickly.

    Your daughter takes after you and your wife. Down to earth with a sense of humor. Good things to have in a persons repertoire. Practical information is always important. Too many people with advanced degrees think "the book" is all important but many times it is not practical. I did my Masters degree after starting it 30 years prior. I had started but then kept moving from one state to another and then to Germany and back to my home in New Mexico. All my work required practical knowledge since without it nothing works for long.

    Katriel, your hair is fine. It suits you and you like it. My wife, when I first met her, had very long hair down to the middle of her back. Then we got married and 'Surprise" kids showed up! At this point in her and my life, she has very short hair but it is curly and twists in all directions. She can comb or brush it out in a few minutes. My hair, which at one time took about ten minutes to dry only takes 30 seconds now. Enjoy it while you have it. Just like your dad, he enjoys what he has and will enjoy it as long as he can do so without your mom complaining.

    When i was working for my friend farmer we had a 16 feet drag harrow pulled behind a tractor with a loader tu pick it up and put it on a wagon to carry it between fields ;we used it to prepare the soil before seeding.It had a pole with hooks on it to attach the drag harrows.

    • @JamesTyreeII
      @JamesTyreeII Před 3 lety

      When I worked at Pacific sports turf, we had a tow behind drag and we had to lift it up onto the trailer using the front and loader and it was heavy. I would have much preferred to have a frame out at hero that was lifted with the three point hitch. In the first place, it illuminates the need to lift it in manually manhandle it, and on the second point, it’s more stable and avoids sliding to the left and right when cornering or on a slight slope

    Hey Tim: when you had the harrow lifted, you have a lot of chain slack in the front and back. I’d shorted up those chains to the frame. It wouldn’t hang down as far. With your midway hangers to help, it would give you more ground clearance when lifted.
    Hope you have a good New Years.

    • @Mrbink01
      @Mrbink01 Před 3 lety +2

      My guess is that the slack is needed so the harrow levels itself on the ground without the frame digging in. The floating position is where a harrow needs to be to do its work. Looks like a lot of slack, but it really isn't.

    • @bill29456
      @bill29456 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Mrbink01 that makes sense. I haven’t seen it working, so it sounds like it is used with the frame slightly elevated off the ground and the chains dragging. Be nice to see it used when you all thaw out and demonstrate it.
      Hope your New Years off to a Great Start.

    Here's an update on those extra lift hooks shown in this video.
    I just bought one of these 3-pt harrows to use with my 1025R. Those Transport Support Hooks do not come with the harrow. That makes sense because not everyone needs them. I ordered a pair directly from Wingfield. They were very friendly and helpful when I called and got the brackets and hooks to me in 2 days. Cost was $50 plus shipping.

    This kind of harrow would be great here in Central Texas where our properties are destroyed by feral hogs rooting. The land becomes so unlevel that future brush hogging becomes a journey on a pogo stick. Ultimately we need to control hogs, but the harrow could at least help me maintain my small plot.
    Interestingly, Tim and Katriel, you hit on the key things: that so much is political, over simplified, and have been brought to the table before, with predictable failures to prove that past attempts haven't worked - over and over. A great deal of the problems boil down to a reality: it is political, and rests in the disparity of "haves" and "have nots." It's about power....always has been the history of Man. I love that people like you, Katriel, are seeking something else, something different to make at least an effect on the lives of a few, if not trying to "cure" the world. Blessings in 2021!

    As for our political situation, term limits would be a huge step along with mandatory periods to remain out of elected office before running for a different position (representative (2 terms max) furrow period then senator (1term only).
    I doubt I will live long enough to see it happen.

    • @JamesTyreeII

      @@JamesTyreeII agreed under the current system of individuals serving for a working lifetime or longer!
      Just think what Joe Biden’s finances would reveal (47 years to date serving in an elected office) compared to Trump’s (4 years in an elected office where he donated his salary to charities to date!).
      However under the terms I outlined above, it would be hard for the big money groups to sink there teeth in deep-limited returns-6 years for a Senator, 4 years for Rep. mandatory non office holding for at least as ling as they served.
      The value of a relatively short term politician would not be worth a large investment.
      But exposure of finance of all monies would be a great thing still

Oh..by the way, that harrow is an extremely versatile implement for so many uses. (Sure beats an old spike tooth harrow I rigged up to use.) Look forward to seeing more of it in future videos.

      That is what I used to do with a harrow. Another use is dragging sand into a sports turf field as well as dragging seed that has been toodressed

    Used a harrow for years without a frame. That would keep it from kinking but wouldn’t the frame not stay square? Bend on your first turn?This could then be stored vertical, ideal. If you ever roll it up you may as well plan the day trying to un kink it.

    That's a nifty implement. Always just dragged the hunk of chain link fence (I've had for the last 30 years) around with blocks on it to make it more or less aggressive. Then roll it up by hand and move it to the next place (not very elegant or efficient, but cheap..LOL). PIA. This appears to be a more accurate, versatile and convenient tool. Glad you were able to get together with Katriel over the Holidays. Wish her continued success with her studies! Wish you all a Happier and safe New Year! Thanks for sharing!

    You should have a small pipe or metal rod through the center to hook the brackets to...would hold it up more even and a little weight when using

    Great to see your daughter involved in the channel. Best of luck to her in her her academic studies. Love my little harrow for breaking up our horse manure in our pastures. Cheap solution that works great. I found I like the Honda ATV the best to pull it. Easy to see and very maneuverable in the tight spaces.

    The upfront cost on a Katriel is probably lower than a seeder, but those maintenance costs get you big time! Try having two of them! And neither one would spread the seed where I want it yet. :-l
    Katie's career path sounds interesting but very challenging.

  • @piercismpropagandanetwork9846

    I have one that I use to break up manure in the pasture put the tractor in a high gear and just drive around the whole field

  • @donmcmannamy3409

    Question? Do you also pull it behind your disk when you disk after plowing you field? Instead of using a tiller

  • @charlesmach7511
    @charlesmach7511 Před 3 lety +4

    Shorten up the back chains. The harrow is pulled toward the tractor when lifted. Shorten the chains and it can't sag as much.

      That was my first thought, it would have been the quick fix. Evidently I would think if they could have shortened the chains they would have. The design probably needs the slack in the chains for what ever reason. I would think it benefits the tines to dig down.

    • @LeeLeadingham
      @LeeLeadingham Před 3 lety

      I was just about to type that. Looks like he could possibly shorten the front chains too and gain a little and still not cause any effective-ness when its in the lowered position.

      Don't fall into the trap or black or white. Everything has a place in this world as long as it does t get overdone. There's a balance to this world. To dismiss academia that's relegated to overpoliticized rhetoric does disservice to all the engineers and agricultural scientists that ensure that you are able to feed your family w quality food one could only dream of generations ago for a nominal cost. Now look beyond your household and multiply that by 7.8 billion.
