one way you can keep memories attached to the book and not keep the book is using a reading journal, and not only take notes about the book itself, but also of the reading process! great video, love your content!

@@sillywhimsyy I feel like you took my comment the wrong way. I agree that 'obsessed' is too strong a word- what im trying to say is that i dont think collecting books as a hobby is inherently wrong. Ive seen many, many booktokers seem to feel pressured to give away or sell their books and I dont understand why. People collect lots of things, books are no different. Its not irresponsible to have a full personal library. Im not sure why you felt like you had to defend yourself from my comment, but it wasnt meant to be accusatory :)

book recommandation to spinning silver/uprooted: The Winternight trilogy (The Bear and the nightingale) by Katherine Arden! Russian folklore/history, soft magic, ATMOSPHERIC, perfect for winter, mc that you will root for etc. The 1st book is slow but the rhythm pick ups for the 2nd and 3rd. Everytime I see a hella pretty cover on the bookshelf of my local bookstore, I have to kill myself because I have to return it back to its original place and leave it be, knowing someone else will probably buy it. I have, currently, maybe 7-9 books I've bought that I haven't finished reading. I have like 2 books I got as presents and one I want to read, it's by Borges, but it's short stories and I'm not the biggest fan of those, and the other is a romance story by Nora Roberts I believe? Which I had no idea was so famous cause I see her books EVERYWHERE!!! but yeah, I'm struggling hahahahah

Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves czcams.com/users/postUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.

I also got the Harry Potter book set as a present. I never read books when I was younger but I knew people that read HP books at that time. Reading them as an adult I truly loved it and understood a lot of the things the movies did not cover. So to me, the nostalgia came from the movies and after reading the books, I fell in love with the wizarding world even more. English is not my first language so please excuse any mistakes.

Have you looked into Matt Larkin's "Cycle of Eschaton" series? There's multiple. "Gods of the Ragnarok Era" tells a grittier, human-based retelling of the apocalypse myths of the Norse, then "Tapestry of Fate" is a prequel series based on Greek mythology, and "Queens of Mana" a sequel series based on Polynesian mythology. Marie Kondo says to take a photo of something you hold dear so you can have the memory after letting the object go.
For me, I ask if the book is a favorite and keep those treasures. If I disliked a book, I let it go, preferably in a Little Free Library or Half Price Books. If I haven't finished the series, I will keep the ones I have read. I like to re-read or skim when a new book in a series comes out. I let gift books go to good new homes. I destash nonfiction that is too dated. The most important question for me is whether I think I will re-read a book. I am a habitual re-reader, and I mood read when I want to be in a certain frame of mind. I have a lot of comfort reads. When I have a favorite author I will buy all their books, and only if I really dislike a book will I destash. I keep my TBRs the longest and I have a lot of unread books because of that. It's hard for me to let go of unread books.

For books with that dark fairy tale feel like Uprooted, try Nettle and Bone by T Kingfisher 😊

For an atmospheric dark fairytale, Gilded by Marissa Meyer it’s soooo good, somehow both having a cozy fall vibe and a creepy fairytale. If I had to describe its like being read a fairytale as a kid when you’re little, that scares you a bit, but it’s okay because you’re nice and warm under the covers.

So cool how you do the animation overlapping the photo images. Is that some special kind of frame or program?

The wolf and the woodsman by Ava Reid has a similar atmospheric, natural dark vibe to Naomi Novik’s books.

i read and loved the bear and the nightingale by katherine arden and it's been compared to naomi novak's writing a lot, and i also read and loved midnight in everwood by m a kuzniar and it gave me the same magical vibes as the bear and the nightingale SO if you squint maybe it's comparable to naomi novak?? it's a retelling of the nutcracker and it's so magical and whimsical and also has a darker twist

I think, if books that we already read take space though we don't want to sell or give them for feelings, how about keeping the cover of book as print and then making like a large poster for wall having all the cover prints and quotes or words we liked from them on.... It can serve as both a decorative element and a reminder of the books we enjoyed.

If you haven't read the winternight trilogy (the bear and the nightingale being the first book) you absolutly have to. I loved Uprooted a few years ago and recently read the first two Winternight books. They're really similar in vibes and I liked them even more than Naomi Novik

I have not read either of these books but I heard another booktuber talking about Daughter of the Forest and Nettle and Bone as books with fairytale vibes. I do know the first has some or at least one trigger warning.
