I went into that season knowing that Dave was one of the more hated characters in the fandom. But strangely, I didn't end up hating him. I thought he was pretty fine in the first few episodes. He flew off the rails towards the end. But literally every character was off the rails in that fever dream of a season.
The second episode was his best because I hated literally 3/4ths of the cast and he was literally the one sane person calling them out But after his crush on Sky starts itâs a downward spiral
I mean heâs out in the wilderness. Heâs touching plenty of grass, he doesnât need to touch grass he needs to dive bomb into it face first. Get a whole moth full
I actually really enjoy Daveâs writing. Heâs a really great subversion of the âstraight man protagonist.â He spends the whole season looking down on others for being weird, but slowly we start to realize heâs a bigger creep than anyone. In any other season, he would be our Trent, or or Mike, so to speak. Heâs the ânormal nice guyâ so obviously he deserves to be in a happy relationship, in his mind anyways. Itâs not even like he just âgot derailedâ as the season went on, he was a toxic, entitled, hypocritical asshole from the start. We just didnât pick up on it right away because the other characters are all so wacky, that we initially sympathize with his frustrations. Weâre initially rooting for him to get with Sky because, thatâs how it goes. The main characters have to get together, right? But not really. Dave is just a creepy incel who thinks heâs better than everyone around him. Heâs a horrible person, but actually a really well-written character.

Sprinkle a wee bit of Noah in both looks and in story wise (Noah being sort of a straight man in wt and Dave originally being the straight man before the Sky thing got out of hand) then, dump in a bucket full of Sierra's obessiveness, mix the batter and then add in the phobia of germs. Next, throw it into the oven and take it out when it's combusting. Good job you made a Dave, now your on your way to making the tdpi love triangle, or if you don't want to include Ella, your on your way to making one of the worst non-crackship pairing in td history. If you regret your creation, throw him in the bin.

Heâs kinda like Titan or Hal from Megamind. The two fall in love with a girl, get rejected and then decides to try and kill them just because they canât take ânoâ for an answer. Dave doesnât have godlike powers like Hal but Chris gives him control of the island.
