I’ve got to say I agree with you about this hat. I’ve had many of these styles of boonie hats over the years, but there is no comparison to the quality and fit of this one. It’s more than worth every penny I gave for it .

If I was still riding bicycle or backpacking a lot I would have bought a Shelta hat. Wanting a lot of cover and cooling I went with a Outdoor Research Sombriolet. Having had the chin cord get caught in branches when the cord is looped over the top back brim I don't recommend looping it like that if bushes and brush are thick. The Sombriolet has very long slits that really let out warmth. Big advantages to the Shelta Seahawk goes to the brim and pocket - stuff the chin strap into it and still have room for more.

Cheaper than surgery. I formed (wrinkled the molded brim) on mine to make it look less structured. Shelta does not recommend this but hey, we all wear our ball caps differently. I have worn mine in the mountains, desert, jungle, ocean, and forest. Took an unintended 1/4-mile ocean swim with it while in Belize. (paddle failure on rental paddle board). When in foreign countries, it doesn't look mil-spec. Only trouble, the bartenders kept trying to buy it off me.

Great review. The neck shield demo did it for me. I need something for kayaking and I left my Tilley hat and rain hat in our Airstream that is 3.5 hours away for service for the next month.

Nice hat, has many features that will keep you protected from the sun, wind etc. I'll stick with my $10 sun shade hat from Costco, it has a 4" brim 5" on the front and back. Thanks for sharing, take care.

Try the Helikon CPU hats especially the pure cotton Polish camo or SAS sand. The slat and tube vent system is tip top. The CPU polycotton hats do well too. I really don't understand the persistence of Nyco in some of their products though.. too hot in the heat. The USMC has or did have their uniforms made out of it for wear resistence but surely it inhibits efficiency.

Good Vid and Review. Looks like they worked out a lot of the kinks found on the regular MilSpec Boonie. Wish I had 70+ bucks to drop on a hat that I most likely will tear up in the bush...

Thanks for the review. Saved for future reference. I saw a bow hunter show his favorite boonie hat for bow. Interesting challenge. Turned out to be a good boonie hat for using a "full size back pack" also.

The price of these hats are nuts, they want $70.for hat and $15 for back shade way off base on pricing. They are nice one of my friends has one but we all think he is off in the head for buying one.

Worth every single penny!!! Buy once cry once. I'm an avid surfer, bodysurfer and fisherman who of course lives on the coast. This hat (Shelta Raptor V2) has 100% delivered as advertised and held up Beyond expectations over the last year of hard daily use. Quality items cost more because of the materials used and the labor equipment used to produce that are involved. Any good quality ball cap is going to cost at a minimum $30 or more. Now once you get up into a boonie style hat there's a lot more material involved so the price goes up even more. Especially when you add things like the floating fixed brim, SPF treatment, stash pocket and removable chin strap and adjustable sizing band. prior to buying this hat I had a few Tilley Hats I feel send hat and a whole bunch of off-brand Bernie or Packer style hats. Every single one of those hats have had zero head time since I bought the Shelta.
I have to say I do get tired of people always complaining about the price of things. If you want a quality item you're always going to pay more for that quality item. Goes for surfboards goes for fishing gear goes for pocket knives goes for firearms and definitely goes for headgear. I don't know about you personally but the same people that I know that complain about things like this are the same people who will go out and spend over $100 to go see a baseball or football game and have nothing to show for it after the fight but they'll complain how about a permanent item being too expensive. I just don't get that my place was always been buy once cry once it is never held me.

Decent hat but the brim is too small for desert wear. I like the Tula Lifeguard, really great sun protection. Might not want to wear it in heavy woods going through brush, but for desert or on the water it is tops.

I've had Tilley before but Shelta is so far above and beyond Tilley. I've got the Shelta Raptor V2. Tilley are cotton and cotton is horrible for outdoor wear. Shelta is synthetic which is lighter, last longer, dries faster and is more breathable.

  • @benjaminvillasenor9064

Just great. 13 minutes and didn't talk about the most important thing, how to adjust it. HOW DO YOU ADJUST THE HAT? The instructions say to roll down the brim from the back , then the visor.. Then cinch it,, etc.... Confusing..ive no idea

The average price for all these hats is $64.00 up. A cheaper version is called a Boonie Hat, the type you can easily buy at any Army/Navy Surplus Store for $25.00 or less. These Shelta Hats are probably just the Australian Bush Hat that costs less than $20.00 at Academy Sports and Outdoors. These Shelta Hats are way to expensive and not worth it.

    • @Wingman115
