      @@WheelersAtLarge The term definitely has positive and negative versions, but let me tell you that the Wheelers are of the positive sort. Although, I prefer "motivators". You two motivate me to get out and try to find the paths and trails between the roads. To go places I haven't gone on my usual routes. And mostly to get out and ride even more than I do now. Thank you both for all the great videos, from here in Boise.

    Very good presentation. It appears that the Ray 2600 is a good/and bright headlight with many features. After looking at Magic Shine's website I see that they offer various mounts. Availability of additional mounts is a big plus!
    Also thanks for mentioning taking a spare taillight along. I have red reflectors on all my bikes as a back up, but never really thought about taking a backup taillight. Thank you for the idea Mike! I do in fact have a backup headlight when I ride.
    A remote is handy. I think my 5 year old Exposure MaXxD produces 2000 lumens on high. I position headlight so that they illuminate the road surface 50 to 100 feet from the bike. However, I know from experience that even though I position my light slightly downward 2000 lumens can be irritating to oncoming motorists. For me using the remote to dim and/or increase the light output is easier than pushing the switch on the light's body.

      Thank you William. I do tend to carry a pair of coin battery lights just in case but on this occasion the whole point was to ride until the battery ran out, so we had Julie's more powerful Halfords light with us.
      Until now only the end of our rides have been in the dark and with other rider's lights around it was hard to tell how bright these are, turns out brighter than I expected. It might make sense to fit the remote switch to Julie's gravel bike to see how it works and use lower power in street lit areas.

      @@WheelersAtLarge My primary light is an Exposure Lights MaxxD. 5 years old. My backup is a 10+ year old Exposure Lights Diablo. On 2 of the bikes I ride the most I have 2 Exposure Lights mounts on each bike. One for the MaxxD, and one for the Diablo backup.
      The 5 year old MaxxD still gives me 2 hours and 15 minutes on high. 2000 Lumens. In urban areas I run the MaxxD on the middle setting. I think 1000 lumens.
      Another light I carry is a very small (1.76 ounces) 1100 lumen headlamp w/ head strap. This is for roadside repairs. I suspect the strap might fit around my helmet. On Amazon these are listed as Headlamp Rechargeable, LHKNL 1100 Lumen. $23 per pair.
      "Influencer"? I think more of Wheelers At Large as being entertainers and providers of useful information. And you do a good job at both.
      Mike, I am really surprised that as much as you ride, and as hard as you ride, that you aren't shedding pounds like water off a duck's back.

    Bike lights - the single biggest advance in modern cycling? They certainly get my vote. Modern lights are a whole lot better than the the huge old Ever Ready jobbies and their dim glow that fell out of the light into a puddle of 'less darkness' down by your front wheel.
    Good review!
    PS - talking of lights and dark rides... any thoughts on another challenge this year you two? I know last year it was the Lockdown Challenge and we're not in lockdown again (so far...) but you know, just wondering if you're hatching any plans ;-)

    Will double clicking work with remote? Will double clicking remote change from right to left LED and then to both LED or we have to go through all the modes to reach the full 2600 lumen?

    • @WheelersAtLarge
      @WheelersAtLarge  Před 2 lety

      I seem to remember that it does. In truth we haven't used the remote through the winter as there's limited space on Julie's drop bars (plenty of room on an MTB probably) and when riding in a group there's plenty of light around so a lower setting is fine for better battery life. Cheers for the comment Agesh

    I have a doubt, in the video it would seem that the Ray2600 emits a warm light, how real is this?

    • @WheelersAtLarge
      @WheelersAtLarge  Před rokem +1

      The colour on video is always based on what the camera thinks it should be so it's not always accurate. I would say that the 2600 is reasonably neutral but definitely not the "almost cool blue" light that I think you're referring to. Thanks for commenting 👍
