    I just picked up a 5B and was going over your videos and I was looking for ideas for the heating issue with it. Im running a Victory big bore silenced pipe on it but I wanna change it out. That said i was told to get a pipe or the pipe I have an get it Ceramic Coated and that will help tremendously with the overheating as well as it giving a a lil extra ponies to the top end as well... I may try it out but I have always watched your videos. Mad respect and love from the North 🇨🇦....

  • @hertsdude
    @hertsdude Před 6 lety +3

    worried that your heat guard will keep the hot air in place and instead of getting pulled in from the pullstart will get dragged in from the crankcase holes instead my idea on this issue was fitting one of the super easy rovan pullstarters which are sealed so won't drag hot air from the exhaust. also not a fan of not having the pull plastic cover over the head without that you lose the cooling air from the flywheel fan going through the actual head fins and doing the job

    • @RCmaxxUK
      @RCmaxxUK  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi mate. I do agree with what u r saying, but I will see how it goes and experiment. There is still plenty of air around the pull start for it to drag air in, I did have the fID pull start on this engine (which I love) but it was too big and the tuned pipe hit it so I had to use a std pull start ;(
      The plastic cover over the engine does direct air through those fins of course and must be there for good reason, but hot air rises and in the 5b's case i am hoping having removed part of it will help. Only time will tell. when i am running hard I will have my temp gun ay hand for sure. thanks for the comm/ opinion mate. Always appreciated ;)

    I think Losi 5B, is one of the most well Rounded 5th scale,for performance. minus the heat issues. To my knowledge of 5th scale Rc's, everyone has it's Cons & pros. Just got to pick one that works best for you. =)

    Hey there. 5b looking awesome. You should try to wrap your exhaust with bike exhaust tape. It helps a lot. I done it on my Baja 5b. I bought it on eBay.

    I like.. I like alot. Not sure what you paid for her but it's looks in good nick. Some actual decent diy mods and the body with all the cut outs look pretty good, nicely done. Regarding the pipe personally it looks like a victory one going from the welds and stinger could be wrong though.
    Im considering giving the 5b brakes a try. The fact they have friction material on the pads is a nice touch also.
    I see ceramic coating has been recommended expensive but good you can give some pipe wrap a try before hand if considering going down that path, great video👍

    Your "thinking" about trimming the engine cover is wrong, it needs to be there to ensure air flow is directed over the engine fins. The majority of air is drawn in from underneath the crankcase, not the pullstart. The air drawn into the engine doesn't need to be cold, it just needs to flow consistently, and unless it's a 200 degree day, then the engine will be cooled enough. I have a Zenoah g320 in mine, and have no heat problems, and having the vents on the front of the shell and the front window will provide enough air flow. NEVER trim the engine cover people

    • @RCmaxxUK
      @RCmaxxUK  Před 6 lety +1

      gavsta72 thanks for the advice and opinion mate. I kept the original zen plastic head cover and trimmed another spare I had. It’s an experimental thing rather than something that’s right as such. Do u take engine temps? And if so any advice on where on the engine to take them and what’s a good temp to keep as a max? Thanks👍👍

    • @geejayrc9401
      @geejayrc9401 Před 6 lety +1

      No unfortunately I don't have a temp gun, but it doesn't seem overly hot to me ?? what is the recommended maximum temp do you know ?? Also after alot of searching on Google, I managed to fine a chrome engine cover set, finally. There are plenty out there, but the engine cover bit doesn't fit the Zen G320 as the head is bigger than other standard engines. I found it on ebay from a seller in China. I should get myself a temp gun, but they're expensive for what they are :(

    • @RCmaxxUK
      @RCmaxxUK  Před 6 lety

      i am not sure about the temps thats why i ask... i think i got around 90 degrees c near the exhaust header but that was with the body on and it was hard to get a reading...def get a temp gun mate. worth having 1 in this hobby. useful for petrol/nitro and electric setups

    • @geejayrc9401
      @geejayrc9401 Před 6 lety +1

      I was just having a bit of a look around, and 90degC is fine, in fact that's the optimal temp for these engines. It seems as though 150degC would be the max you would want to run it at. I did have a little Turnigy temp gun a while, but it died. I don't bother with temps, with brushless, if you can touch the motor for 5secs without melting your skin, then it's ok. These 2 strokers get enough cooling I think anyway, and I know mine would be running at around the 100degC mark :)
      Remember these aren't brushless motors, temps aren't as important

    • @RCmaxxUK
      @RCmaxxUK  Před 6 lety

      Hi mate. A few guys within the group i run with had losi 5b's. at least 3 of them managed to overheat and damage their engines. So for me personally, wanting to learn from their mistakes its well worth keeping an eye on engine temperature. All 3 of them ended up selling their cars as a result of being frustrated with this issue. no doubt it depends on your personal setup and how/ where u run. ;)

  • @kamymotesharei6417
    @kamymotesharei6417 Před 6 lety +1

    Replace that tuned pipe with a stock muffler and you'll solve 98% of your problems. What you give up in performance, you'll gain back in reduced weight and the loss of all that heat! Enjoy your new buggy :)

    • @RCmaxxUK
      @RCmaxxUK  Před 6 lety

      Thanks mate. yeah....the std style pipe no doubt would sort the issue a bit as its placed totally different and i'd be able to run my beloved FID easy start pull starter! ;) In fact I wonder if the dragon hammer tuned pipe would work on it.... thats small and hmmmm might work....

    Hiya mate, loving the 5b!! I think it would look really cool wrapped in your RC Maxx UK logo & colours altho the black is still pretty good, I have to say I prefer buggy's and not trucks (like kraken, Fire Hammer) the 5b is more for racing and flat surface running? Are they good for doing high jumps like you can do with the bigger trucks with the longer shock travel? If I do get another 1/5 it would be a 5b :)

      @BOTAJELL Před 6 lety +1

      TheMaddogMadigan I agree with you brother that would definitely concern me. When I finally have some time to build or come across a good losi 5B like our good friend RC Maxx UK 🇬🇧 I will definitely be going LiFe 6.6 volt instead of the Damn Lipo! LiFe battery you can keep it inside the radio tray permanently ! There durable and safe as hell ! You can even drill screws to it and it will not blow up or go on fire 🔥 like a Lipo. That's just me and how I fell after seeing my neighbors garage and shed go up on fire and burnt to the ground because of his Lipo X max and I've seen six Lipo Arrmas go up in fire at LI Bash this year alone and I have proof of 2 of them in video . Anyways stay safe talk soon!

    Question my friend what was your dragon hammer priced? The reason why I'm asking is because I'm currently selling a dbxl that I've change to mimmick a 5b with a couple of upgraded parts a charger , a flysky remote and 2 recivers , new chassis plus extra parts t has a 26cc motor a bartalone pipe I have it on ebay currently it's priced at $880 and some change my question to you is do you think that's a good asking price ? Every thing is in excellent shape the charger and remote are practically new hardly used.

    • @RCmaxxUK
      @RCmaxxUK  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi mate, I am in the UK so i guess pricing is a bit different. Sounds Ok to me.... just go with what u want for it and hopefully you will get it! My dragon was £620 used ( thats what i paid) ,it needed my radio gear and 1 servo for steering. I sold it as a roller for £640 without radio gear and again with only 1 servo. So in essence i got a near new xen290 out of it. sometimes u win, sometimes u loose. the 5b was £600 as a roller with servos, just needing the engine and radio gear.... good luck! ;)

    You kinda suprised me with info about dragonhammer not having optional gearting O_O. Is there really nothing that can fit?

    • @RCmaxxUK
      @RCmaxxUK  Před 6 lety

      Hi mate, there is a bolt which goes through from the top, down in the mid chassis brace and into the clutch bell mount. this is not adjustable so with this bolt in the motor cannot slide (even though there is space for it to slide in the chassis like a 5t losi etc)...which of course in turn means u cannot change the pinion. I guess if a smaller spur was fitted and bigger pin of the correct size the motor would stay in the same spot. The guy i sold my dragon to was going to experiment by taking out that 1 bolt which would then enable the motor to move and be held by spacers again like the losi setup. However he has since started stepping away from rc and may not continue that project.... hope this info helps u understand the setup a bit.... ;)

    • @Ev0ltion
      @Ev0ltion Před 6 lety +1

      It does thanks :D. But from what i understand slight modification to chassis could enable other gears to fit. Anyways im still trying to figure what will be my 1st 5th scale and your YT channel is a great help keep it up
