Anyone else’s brain go immediately to “Empire Records” when you saw the title? Probably narrow casting but that always stuck out to me as an amazing soundtrack.
The entire Transformers trilogy had an amazing soundtrack and the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy did too.
this is true, from having Linkin Park doing an exclusive track for the movie to featuring Imagine Dragons in 2014 with a track they released a year later

Soundtracks =/= score. I haven't watched Transformers, but I know for a fact that the How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack is just comprised of the score, which while it still counts, is not the kind of "soundtrack" that most people are colloquially referring to when they talk about movie soundtracks. Usually if they're talking about just the instrumental music composed specifically for the movie, they use the word "score" (even though the score is sometimes also the soundtrack, but not always). Usually "soundtrack" is referring to the collection of needle drops throughout the movie.

@@holty1314 see, those aren't original songs. They weren't written specifically for the movie. Most of them existed when I was a kid.
Though, to be fair, there are several films in this list that feature songs that weren't written specifically for those films, either.
Dirty Dancing, The Warriors, The wolf of Wallstreet…all great soundtracks.

How is Footloose, Grease, Beverly Hills Cop, Animal House, Fame, and Flashdance not in top 10? BTW, Shrek should be placed in Top 10. Not 20

@@lilyfisher1702 You don't know much about movies and musicals, do you? I don't think Beverly Hills Cop could be construed as a musical by any stretch of the imagination. Also... Animal House would be voted the most tasteless musical EVER! Admittedly, Grease could scratch that territory, but absolutely none of the others.

Had Vol 1 & 2 growing up, always bummed me out they couldn’t get the rights to all the songs for the soundtrack though, especially Hurricane

Dirty Dancing Soundtrack and Grease!!!
Grease was written by The Bee Gees, they deserved both spots-

"Lost Boys" and "Heavy Metal" seem like glaring omissions worthy of at least honorable mention.

Lawrence Kasdan's "The Big Chill" (1983) deserved an honorable mention -- I cannot think of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" or "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" without thinking of this amazing film!

There are so many other movies that didn't make this list that probably deserves at least an honorable mention. Some of my personal favorite soundtracks that weren't on this list are Megamind, The Hangover, Goodfellas, Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Maximum Overdrive, Herbie Fully Loaded.
The Godfather and James Bond Theme
Batman Forever should be on this list. Seal, U2, Brandy, The Offspring, and Method Man.
And Prince Batman 1989.

Grease, Xanadu, Footloose, Flashdance, Dirty Dancing, The Big Chill all were not only chart toppers but were the music of a generation.
In my opinion the best to soundtracks ever made, Dazed and Confused and The Devil's Rejects. Both are absolutely brilliant and I don't know how those movies are not on this list!

I’m honestly very disappointed that none of Martin Scorsese’s movies even got an honorable mention. Casino, Goodfellas, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, and even The Irishman all had fantastic soundtracks. The man really knows how to pick his music for his films, and I believe Tarantino cited Scorsese as one of his biggest influences when it comes to music selection.

My thoughts exactly! They are arguably very top because the films were music and dance focused. Additionally, they had unique tracks just for the films themselves.
Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Beverly Hills Cop, Flashdance and Fame... all missing. Yes, I grew up in the 80s.

Just a few that I believe should have been mentioned. Wayne's World, Judgment Night, Empire Records, Dazed and Confused, Batman, Maximum Overdrive, and sorry but Almost Famous should have been higher, and Reservoir Dogs soundtrack was better than Pulp Fiction.

I’m really fond of the Rocky IV soundtrack, the main events are the released singles from it, being Burning Heart, Heart’s on Fire, No Easy Way Out, and Living in America.

Several iconic 80's soundtracks missing from this list. Footloose, Rocky IV, Karate Kid I and II, Dirty Dancing, Beverly Hills Cop, Flash Dance to name a few. Grease is another great soundtrack.
Dirty Dancing, Gone in 60 Seconds and A Knight's tale should have been in list, those movies are pretty much defined by their music!

Marry Me soundtrack is my favorite. Jennifer Lopez and Maluma sounds superb together! The movie itself is as fancy as its soundtrack album.

And was very impressed to see hear and know The Crow, got into this list which happen's to be one of my all time fav soundtrack's and film's,
But I was seriously disappointed to not see The Lost Boy's, soundtrack and Dirty Dancing, soundtrack to name but a few make it into this list, :-( ,
