- This might have been the best goaltending match up that decade, though I could certainly dive into stats on that. The Canucks outlasted the Stars and Turco lost his chance to get Dallas into round two.

Luongo didn’t stand on his head in game 1, he was doing cartwheels, backflips and all sorts of crazy shit.
Those, like me, who were there will never forget. Kind of like Pavel Bure's first game.
I might be one of the few people that actually like those Canucks jerseys
I’m with you there
By far the best jerseys Vancouver ever wore.
Turco and Luongo with only .952 and .950 SV%? What bums
Fleury and Quick esque in 2018 VGK vs LAK.
I was 8 years old when this series happened and Game 1 was where my love of hockey began. Always had a ton of respect for Turco after this series and is still one of my favourite goalies of all time.
Turco was a fun goalie and even more fun in interviews.
I remember calling in sick and flying across the country, only to watch the Canucks lose that 1-0 game on home ice. It was my first NHL playoff game ever. I thought I was cursed!
SEVENTY-SIX SHOTS?!
These are the series I hope you cover the rest of the way:
2008: Dal vs. SJ
2009: Ana vs. Det
2010: Phi vs. Bos
2011: Det vs. SJ
2012: Phi vs. Pit
2013: Bos vs. Chi
2014: LA vs. Chi
2015: Wsh vs. NYR
2016: Chi vs. StL
2017: Tor vs. Wsh
2018: Pit vs. Wsh
2019: Cbs vs. TB
Been watching some of your older videos this weekend. Loved this series so much. It cemented Luongo as my all time favourite goalie & made me respect Turco a tonne as well!
Game 7 of the this series was the same day as my last ever law school exam. Started drinking at noon, the entire day was hazy, but still
vividly remember Linden tipping in Ohlund’s shot to put the Nucks up 2-1 for the eventual GWG. Was watching it with a Calgary fan who bet me $20 the Nucks would lose. Good day for me.
Luongo’s first season with the Canucks was really something else. Really sums up the majority of his career.
People tend to forget how mediocre alot of these teams that leaned on their goalies are, like Vancouver. 15 more goals against form one season to the next over the course of 50 games can be the difference between first in the division and missing the playoff. Instead of getting wins you get ties and or losses. Especially at that time when every point was so tight.
Lou easily took the Canucks from a 80-90 point team to a 100 point team. People don't realize how not great alot of those teams were.
Yeah Lou didn't cash in when he maybe should have, but sometimes you need other players to just win games for you and the Canucks never seemed to have that. Very similar to the Stars of that era.
I remember my dad watching this series as a kid. One of the best goalie duel series of recent. I wonder if any other series in history have goalies only letting in 1 in 20 shots or more. Great video Shannon :)
All my friends made fun of me after game 7 for being a Turco fan. I tried to tell them it wasnt his fault but to no avail
I was there at Game 1. Spilt my XL drink on the guy in front of me wearing a Linden jersey. He was so pissed, I offered him $20 (my dad's money, i was young) for cleaning. The guy awkwardly refused it. Game was so long, by the end me and the guy were legit friends and high fiving.
The series that legitimized my fandom of Vancouver when I was 11
This was the only 7 game series that year
I was at game 1. First Canuck game as a kid. Got lucky for sure.
Yeah, I was a 21 year old kid...That was a kid, right?
I remember this series, was phenomenal.
how about the 5 biggest games where goalies stood on their heads? halak vs capitals, hasek vs devils etc..
Cujo vs Stars
Dave D Cujo versus everyone early on in his career :D
Turco was probably my 2nd favorite goalie in the 00's after Hasek even though I never cheered for the Stars, too bad he never had a long playoff run in his career.
He reached the conference finals in 2008 though.
@@robins5798 oh yeah, ok, too bad he never made the SC finals then
Dallas and turco were my favorites at this time in hockey history. Turco was suppppper good and underappreciated.
The ducks , who had Neidemeyer and pronger, which was a cheat code back then.
I died.
Luongo finished game 1, 1 save away from the all time record and got the record for most shot against.
The worst single game save percentage in this series is .911 with 51/56. That is amazing
Imagine a 7-game series where one team gets 3 shutouts and it's the team that loses.
I didn't watch this video but I was wondering if a goalie or a team ever lost a series after recording 3 shutouts other than Dallas? I'm having wifi issues
I don't think so.
@abatch12 Good catch, I just looked it up. His name was Turk Broda of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Turk and Turco coincidence.
Funny enough, Turco might be the only goalie in NHL history to not allow a goal in 60 minutes of game time (or alternatively, 3 periods) in 4 different games in a single playoff series. 3 regular shutouts + 3 scoreless overtime periods in game 1.
Called it!
A .952 SV% and he “can’t win?” Did they look at those numbers though? That’s a crazy save %!
Not during Game 7 though
Marty Turco who has the record for most career 4OT games
I could be wrong but I think he's been in 3 of them. 1 of them was a 5 ot game. He was 1-2 in those games
@@daved1535 Yup he got this one, game 6 vs SJ the next year and the 5OT was game 1 vs Anaheim in 03 which is 4th longest game in NHL history
Dallas should have had home ice in this series. They had more points than Vancouver. But the stupid rules gives the division winners home ice. Even though Dallas lost 2 out of 3 at home in this series, I think if game 7 was in Dallas they would have won this series.
which pic is Shannon talking about?
Stu Barns? Wasn't he a player for the Sabres? Or did he get traded later in his career?
Dallas only won when Turco played shutout.. Luongo is and will be my all time favourite player
Please PLEASE, do a video on the stars vs sharks 2008 semifinals PLEASE.
agreed
That was a great series for the Stars. The only thing I didn't like about that series was those horrible Stars jerseys they wore during that spand
I wouldn’t Call this a great series, way to boring But I get it. An Even series between your favorite teams.
As a Sharks fan, I can tell you that I was not a fan of those Dallas teams with Modano, Morrow, and Turco.
I watched that entire game 1 ended around i think 4:30
The Stars should still be in Minnesota!
The referees gave Vancouver game 7 Dallas was in the penalty box the whole game
Penalties were 10-7 Dallas.
See 10 fucking penaltys in game 7 and you want to defend that.
This was the worst seven game series in NHL history.
Ok.
