    Personally I think the very first thing you should do after the discovery flight if you choose to proceed is get your medical. You don't want to invest a good amount of time, money, and emotional attachment to being a pilot only to find out in the middle of ground school or even worse flight training you are medically disqualified from flying. Even benign seeming conditions and medications can torpedo your medical. Don't assume just because you seem overall healthy and have no major conditions you will pass the medical exam.

    I'm at roughly the same point in my training. Should be fun to follow along and see how our roads to that private certificate wind their way to the finish line. I'm only flying a few hours on the weekends, no crazy accelerated schedule, so definitely a marathon.

      Absolutely. I've been waiting to be signed off by our Chief Pilot who has a crazy schedule so I havent flown in 3 1/2 weeks. Hoping next week I'll be all cleared to solo and then it should speed up a bit

      @@ClearedForLanding Such a bummer. when you're at a nice little plateau and then weather or schedule keeps you on the ground for a few weeks. Been there! I just switched up instructors right after my pre-solo checkout so I may have a few more flights with the new guy before long awaited solo.

    Great video man keep it up! I’m currently on my third week of flight school with a part 141 school. I agree with everything you said here definitely finish ground school before starting if possible so you can focus on the controls and everything about to plane and maneuvers. I am stressing a bit about my written exam though I feel like I’m not studying right. Any tips that could help me out?

    • @ClearedForLanding

      Are you doing well on the practice tests? In my experience the practice tests were more intense than the actual test. Actual test took about 10-15 minutes. I think I spent more time checking in and out. Talked to a few others who recently took it and they said the same thing. I'd say if you can consistently pass the practice exams you're good

      @@ClearedForLanding I just recently started taking Kings free faa practice exam and I’m getting a passing score but not a score I would want, but if I continue to do that and study the questions I get wrong my score will surely go up!

    Thanks for the videos. If you don't mind me asking how old are? I am 29 considering going back to flight school. I got about 20 hours 5 years ago and then couldn't keep up financially anymore so had to give it up unfortunately. Now it feels like it is too late for me.

    • @TheSchwartzIsWithYouToday
      @TheSchwartzIsWithYouToday Před 2 měsíci

      Too late for what? Are you preparing to move into an assisted living retirement home when you turn 30?
      Mandatory retirement age is 65 for the big commercial airlines, and you can fly for Corporate, cargo and other purposes for as long as you can keep flying.
      I'm 67, just getting started, and could possibly be flying Corporate jets in a couple of years if I wanted. If I was 50, I'd jump into this field as fast as I could!
      I cannot think of any other field where someone can go from just getting started with nothing but a HS diploma to earning mid-6-figures with maybe $1M in the bank after 10 years. But you can get your license and start flying for fun at pretty much any age. The funny thing people don't realize is that the path to becoming a commercial pilot is closer to going to a vo-tech school like for HVAC, welding, or electrical work, than anything else. You don't need a college degree, and all of the ground school needed to pass your written exams can be done in 6 months! It's the flight time that stretches things out.
      There are lots of YT channels where they talk about getting your ATP cert in 9 months for under $35k, starting from scratch. It's totally doable.
      Another path that's not discussed much is the Sport Pilot cert (this guy didn't mention it either). Find a local flying club that has at least one LSA and get your Sport Pilot Cert (SPC) first. Get trained by a regular CFI (as opposed to a CFI certified for ONLY Sport Pilots) and all of your CFI solo time can count towards your PPL (excluding some test prep time). The time and cost to get SPC is about 1/2 of a PPL, and you can start building up hours and experience. (SPC training is the same as basic PPL, but lacks some stuff like instrument, IME, night flying, and large controlled airports.) Then move on to your PPL covering this other stuff. Also, the SPC doesn't require you to pass a medical, saving more money up-front if you don't have your 3rd Class medical yet. (If you already got your 3rd Class medical, then you can probably switch to Basic Med.)

      @TheSchwartzIsWithYouToday thanks so much for that!!! Here in South Africa a degree/diploma has never really been required luckily. I will probably have to go work in the UK or something to generate the funds to finish flight school. It was always a dream since I was a child but I guess once I started working my salary could never cover it unfortunately and then I got older really quickly haha!!! So thanks for that it's motivated me to get back into it :D!
