I suspect the phrase "Cheeky Nandos" is born from the same indulgent idea of popping into the pub for a "swift half" (of beer.).
This couldn't be more British. Having a cheeky Nando's and then going for a few pints of cider! Absolutely wonderful!
I love when Josh says "we have hotter sauces at Taco Bell"....mic drop moment. haha. So fun to have a new video this morning.
this was so fun to watch as a bristolian! glad you enjoyed it here
Hey Ashley just a little information on the Clifton suspension bridge for you. Construction of The Clifton suspension bridge commenced on the 21 June 1831 and construction was Completed on the 8th of December 1864 one year before President Abraham Lincoln passed the 13th Amendment of the US constitution. It was Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel he bought house nearby to oversee it's construction alas the story he died before it was complete
I love when you team up with the Travel Beans. You seem to have so much fun together and the laughter and merriment is so enjoyable. 🥳
I'm loving these episodes together with the Travel Beans, you make a great pairing. Maybe I am a bit biased because I am half British myself, but just love that British accent, haha :)
Hope to see 'way more' of the four of you together (badum tsssss).
By the way, Ashley, my late grandfather used to be a verger, and he also played the organ in the local church. I could watch him for hours!
This time you didn’t forget to say “Welcome to the WAY WAY” 😊😄
Keep going ♥️
:p We're so good at our job. Haha
Just discovered your channel guys and I must say how much I've enjoyed your vlogs. Try to get up to the Midlands sometime we'd love to welcome you.
I've tried Nandos in the US and the UK. Good stuff! It was cool to see your perspective on Bristol. I visited there several years ago.
I’m lucky enough to live in Bristol, and get to see the suspension bridge every day!
You folks are Awesome, I love way way, now started following travel beans as well. I been to Bristol , excellent calm city. Keep going. Congrats and my best wishes
Great video as always guys. hope you enjoyed the uk
Thanks Dave!
It's been a while since I watched you guys. Did you get new camera equipment? The quality of the images is amazing.
The 'cheeky' adjective is rooted in how you may describe your best mate when he's being a wind-up merchant. Its a term of endearment which has spread to describing pubs, food etc as 'cheeky' as that's what they are sometimes - an endearing good mate. This pre-dates Nandos in UK - and goes back at least as far as the 80s when you would go for a 'cheeky pint' of beer.
This was posted on my bday :D I am fron Kent in the UK! I hope you enjoyed urself in UK so far :D much lovez ^^
A bit of N. America trivia for you. That wooden ship at 13:34 is The Matthew a replica of the ship sailed by John Cabot in 1497 from Bristol to North America. It's not know where exactly he landed but Cape Bonavista or St. John's in Newfoundland are meant to be the most likely sites.
The bridge was built in 18 something, you've got to love Ashley. The bridge was built in the 19th century if it was 18 something. I've lived here all my life and never had a Nandos, there is one in the middle of my local town but I've never thought of going in there. Maybe I will try it :-)
YAY! What a nice treat for my Saturday morning!
Thanks Diana! hope you enjoy. :)
@@WAYAWAYWithAsh I did like it! You guys seem to have so much fun with the Beans! Thanks for what you guys do, I love it!
I'm with Ashley. I'd love to be a part of a Street Art Project one day. Philadelphia Mural Arts will sometimes have a community paint day for new murals where you can go and they will give you a color and few squares of a mural to paint. I'm going to get to one of them when I see it posted up someday.
Beautiful Blustery Bristol!! ♡
So beautiful out!!
It really was! The sun and breeze! And the art work (girl w the pearl) just super cool!
The gorge below the suspension bridge is a mecca for local climbers. It's usually pretty safe, but my son, who lives in Bristol, was involved in a pretty terrible accident there. He wasn't hurt himself, but the bloke he was climbing with encountered a rock fall, the rocks cut his belay ropes and he fell about 150 ft to the floor of the gorge. He survived, but he's paralysed from the waist down now and lost both his legs. He's an ex-soldier and has been remarkably resilient. After a lot of rehabilitation, he's found himself a flat now and drives a specially adapted car. I think the Banksy with the naked man hanging out of the window is the best Banksy ever!
It is strange you going to those specific places. Watching you cross the bridge I explored when visiting my sister there. Sitting in what I think is the same booth I sat in when we went to Nandos on the days following my Grandpa's funeral. Walking up the slight incline before the arch near the cathedral that I walked back up so many times early in the morning after a busy night waitressing and where I walk after finishing a tiring run. Standing by the big silver ball near where I used to work. It's a weird feeling like I could feel the spaces you were inhabiting.
Cheeky Nandos is a very popular British slang term 😄
I love that you checked out Banksy for Ashley on the way. I would be dragging my husband along to find one, too 😅 You can tell it's a Banksy by the style, but the girl with the Pearl Earring didn't look like it to me; so I wonder if it's an earlier addition? I like it when artists incorporate the surroundings into their piece, making it more realistic and thought provoking. My father is a muralist, so basically-- no, not the same thing lol But I appreciate street art the same.
Every Banksy piece has a message, usually humerus and often tied to it's location. For example, 2 policemen kissing in a doorway and the 'lover' hanging from the window you saw halfway up a building. He has done several twists on classic paintings like the Girl with a pearl earring and the Hay Wain.
i lived in bristol for 5 years in the 90s great city have fun enjoy lots of history there to explore
I enjoyed that you went to the apple. Love that place :)
Oooff, Old Bristolian is lethal. I imagine you already went but Stokes Croft is the best place in Bristol for street art but the museum and gallery (top of park Street where the nandos is just past the wills memorial building) also has a couple of Banksys that he(she/they???) donated.
Also the museum has the most important palaeontological collection in the south west of the country but most of it isn't on display :p
On a similar track - I was just in the US with a lot of British guys and they ordered cocktails which came out wrong, they asked for new ones and they got to keep the originals and the new ones. I am sure that some places in the UK are the same, but customers do not do this very much.
Mr Sammotube if the order is wrong or the food is cold or not done properly, absolutely, it can be sent back, the restaurant will bring you a new order. If you just decide you don’t like what you ordered and want something else, no you can’t send it back.
Hi Josh and Ashley, Bristol England, is also "Cary Grants" Birthplace "A Famous Actor" My Favorite, his Movies include "Charade & North by Northwest (A - Alfred Hitchcock) Movie.
Thanks, for showing me "where" he, came from.
Blessings from Oklahoma,
Piper
He went to my old school. Came back to visit. He got a statue in Millennium Square. We are kind of proud of him.
If you like street art then you need to visit Bedminster ( in Bristol ) they have a street art festival every yeah called upfest
I wonder if they'd be able to understand the Bedminster locals? To be honest even other Bristolians can't understand them!
Cheeky is a britsh expression but much used in Bristol. It is not just about Nandos. Most commonly used to say do you want to go for a cheeky beer.No idea of where it came from but its just a fun expression unlike the overuse if super...my pet hate.
Josh & Ashley, once again you 2 and a few other vloggers making a case for visitors to UK to venture out of "that London" where there is so much more to see & do at less than capital city prices and hustle n bustle.
cool x really enjoy watching
I'm happy to see that you both act more like a married couple in the last videos ♥ Whatever happened, I'm happy for you. BTW if you are still near Bristol, visit Totnes, I've lived their for some months abroad and it is beautiful. The partner city of Totnes is Torquay and the birth town of Agatha Christie.
Cheeky just means sneaking one, like having a cheeky drink.
Cheeky = guilty pleasure. 👍🏻
Cheeky=a random not expected moment, like a cheeky pint on the way home from somewhere
14:44 this is so true with drinks, you made the choice you drink it but cold food isn't acceptable.
my home town WOOOOOOO, would it be bad to say I have never actually been across the Clifton suspension bridge?
Carolina Reaper lolol oh wow that is like Houston we have a problem lmao
If there is a cathedral in the place you are in in the UK then it is a city.
Not always the case there are many places that have a cathedral and are not a city, and many that are cities without a cathedral. For example Bath has no cathedral and is a city (the Abbey is not a cathedral). It's the city charter that makes it a city!
Your friend Laura, from Germany videos, looks so much like a contestant on Sequester 3
I’ve been there guys and it the same weather as you experienced right now
Taco bell exists in the UK, but I have no idea if it tastes the same as in the US. Maybe you should try it (there is one in the centre of Southampton at least).
Guys, you need to go to Wilkins Cider if you haven't already... It's a cultural experience!
'We wanna show you the WAY AWAY' !
Great Video
'An architect' doing Isambard Kingdom Brunel dirty fam 😂
Hiya. Nice pint of Scrumpy there, Josh, good on ya, but how can you mention complaining about cold food at the end? In vlog after vlog you have food in front of you both going stone cold while you talk about it and film it! You must LOVE cold stuff. Surely, I can't be the only one frustrated by that? Lol. All the best to you.
It’s all subjective, for Americans who are used to fairly spicy Mexican food I’m not surprised Nando’s feels mild. A lot of the post war ‘skyscrapers’ in Bristol have been torn down in recent years (mostly to make way for accommodation blocks for students attending the University of Bristol), I presume you were filming the post Nando’s walk near the Cathedral before 3/ 3:30? Because if it was after three I can guarantee point blank it would be a hell of a lot busier because that’s when all the schools finish for the day -weekend as you were shooting on Friday-, also I was wondering when you’d get to my patch with your recent videos in the boroughs, towns and villages in the Greater Bristol area
Guys if you come all the way to Bristol you should see the city of Bath as well. It is one of the most authentic places of the UK in my mind, also where I am studying, but I assure you I am not biased on this one. :D
The U.S. has a pretty customer-centric service industry. I ordered a Coke in Barcelona and returned it because it had an off taste. I'd taken about 3 straw sips from it. They billed me for it anyway, and the owner told me that he'd tasted it and it tasted fine!
i wouldnt say cheeky nandos if the phrase would save my families life
Yes you would

We did a spicy ones challenge at work I ended up having some kind of sauce that was 2,000,000 scoville which wasn't the last one. Came in second against a friend from Indonesia who was a 100% champ at eating hot foods
The Indonesians don't mess about when it comes to heat 😂
Love Nando's...really is not the cheapest fast food but it is absolutely delicious...the sauces are delicious and really are not that hot but the flavours more than make it worthwhile...would love to see both of you do Hot Ones 💜🔥
Awesome line ash!!!......gorgeous....like u.....nice line👌 ur a pro!!😃
We have Nandos in the USA at least in Chicago we do.
Reage a nossa cidade Dubai blasileiro, Balneário comburiu ?!!!
Ashley wants to move to England eventually - I bet that's where you end up settling
My wife went to school with Banksy (in Bristol) - plenty of people in Bristol know who he is. No allegedly about it :)
Ok, now I'm really hungry. And I want some hot sauce on it. Josh at Hot Ones would be fun :D
Hot sauce! 🤘
Want chilly food in the UK? Only choice is Indian tbh.
Or a wing shop ran by Bengali/Indian where you can get naga wings. Is the chilliest peppers/ ghosts chillies sauce draped on fried wings.
Nando's is South African? I thought it was Portuguese. Huh! You learn something new every day.
Oliver Adams its actually both
I must say Taco Bell does have some hot sauce. Great video. Most places not all in the US will let you taste it first.
Have a cheeky nando's
Hi Everyone, can`t stop watching all you guys, loving everything ya`ll (
if the bridge was build it anywhere between 1700-1799 it would be the 18th Century.
Nandos idea of hot is pretty tame compared to a Madras/Vindaloo/Phall curry. I think the term "cheeky Nandos" comes from going there unplanned hence being "cheeky". You're walking down the street with your friends and you have an hour to spare so you ask your friends if they fancy a "cheeky Nandos".
If my food was cold I'd definitely ask them to warm it up but I'd never ask them to change a drink I ordered just because I don't like it... that's not their fault/problem
Love the intentional typo on the 'BLIND tASte' test. Lol 🙈
Made ya look. :p
@@WAYAWAYWithAsh Not once, but twice. 😜
The Bristol Suspension Bridge opened in 1864 - That's the NINETEENTH century (How on Earth do you get the 1700s being 18 something. The 1700s is ALWAYS 17 something: that's why it's the 1700s, nor is "18 something" the 17th century".)
Nando's UK had supply issues with regards to chicken cruelty a month or so ago. Very upsetting as this was my favourite restaurant and animal cruelty is abhorrent.
Regardless of 'welfare', when you eat chicken it means it has had its head sliced off often without stunning. How else do you think you get chicken . Nando is as guilty as any other chicken outlets .
@@jaycobbina9529 I used to work at a chicken processing plant. It is physically impossible for the chicken to enter the decapitator without passing through the stunning bath first. The bird's head is constrained between two guide rails, specifically to ensure an effective stun and decapitation. If the bird somehow avoided being stunned, the instant loss of blood pressure would, (If I recall correctly) cause loss of consciousness in two tenths of a second.
I was so surprised at how not hot it was, from what I recall watching on TV the one in South Africa the really hotter ones have a strong kick to 'em.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN HUNGRY !!.
Nando’s is much of a muchness, healthier than KFC without not excessively priced more.
It’s good if got an hour to spare before a film at a cinema.
They hardly had any of the xx hot sauce and said it's not that hot lol
🤗👍Soo Good an'&d unique life vibes🤗🙃💙🌟🌟🌟🌟💞
Nandos is a restaurant of Portuguese food.
South African Nandos is super spicey, Nandos U.K. has been dumbed down for the British palate.
Cheeky Nando's is a hard one to explain. Normally "cheeky" means kind-of mischieviously disrespectful, but in this context that doesn't really make sense. It seems to mean something more like "impromptu", "spur of the moment", something like that. Why it's used that way specifically for Nando's, though, I have no idea!
Quick and irreverent. Your dietician or girlfriend may disapprove, but you have a craving for a quick bite of Fernando's peri-peri chicken.
@@criskity yeah, that works!
in the same way you would go for a "cheeky pint". It's a little bit naughty, not good for you, but it's fun/enjoyable.
19th century 1801-1900(1800-1899).
Why do people love nandos? Is just cheap grilled chicken.
Yep, never understood that either. Paying £9 for 3 thighs is why I'd call it "cheeky", Nandos are the ones being cheeky charging that!
@@andrewlaw Nandos keeps the riff raff out of KFC.
I'm British and don't love Nandos. I could recreate their chicken at home fairly easily so don't get what all the fuss is about?
I did not know it was no big deal to pour out a glass of something if you don't like it! won't the business lose a lot of money if everyone did that?
Cheeky Nandos just means a quick bite to eat that's all.
Omg I thought I was the only one who gets confused about the century thing 😂 Always tripped me up in art history class lol I think it’s whatever century it is, it’s the 100 years before that number, so like 18th century is 1701-1800
How tall are you Josh? I see people walking by and maybe they are shorties but you are towering over them. It's a good thing woo hoo
I've always said Nando's sauce ain't hot
How could not know nandos is Portugaease
Not everyone loves Nando's.
I've never been to one.
They don't allow dogs
1700’s =18th century. I always remember by thinking 1900’s =20th century
I don’t get the “cheeky Nando’s” thing, I’m a Brit and will never say it ,it’s just a bit stupid. Anyway gotta go ,got a cheeky roast on the go
Nandos is the one place I would never ever go into, it's just grilled chicken. KFC is where the party is at.
It’s expensive and not really that good
I’ve been following you guys for ages and really really love your vlogs...but it seems since you came to England you seem to have not found the food to your liking.. example: pickle at cheddar George..sausage rolls..and the snacks we like..then to crown it all you have slated Nando’s .. it seems everything you have tried on camera you haven’t liked or something is wrong is it.. just saying how I feel..Xxx
1800's is the 19th century
Not everyone loves Nandos, personally i cant stand it, hate the food and dont really like the hype either - way overrated
I'm the same. I've only ever been twice. The second time I went I refused to actually eat anything in there. Its way too expensive for what it is, plus its not even nice
@@haunteddreams7856 , expensive in the USA also.
Me too, Ive been once and the chips (fries for the colonists) were cold, I mentioned this to the waiting staff and got a totally uninterested response.
I thought Nando’s was Portuguese.
Or South African? Hmm 🤔
@@WAYAWAYWithAsh It's a South African chain that specialises in Portugese food.
peri-peri chicken is Portuguese food brought from African colonies, specifically Mozambique I believe. But Nandos is a South African company.
I'm not a big fan of Nandos - large on spice and low on flavour.
Nandos is just a cheap generic chicken outlet, KFC chicken supply nandos...they just decide to double charge brain dead customers
