NO one does melodies and harmonies like Abba!
The narrative of the song is extremely simple: An older woman is comforting a younger woman....Chiquitita - Little One....who has suffered a heartbreak and encouraging her to rise above it and regain her former joy. It really is just astoundingly obvious. Really.
How he doesn't know what this song is about - I don't get it either. And my mother tongue is not English 😉
Even listening for the first time without subtitles like him and I understood and my main language isn’t English either.
'"Fernando" - by Abba is one of my favorites.... "Take a Chance on Me"..... also.
ABBA might just be the best harmonizing Pop group of all time.
AFTER THE BEACH BOYS AND THE EAGLES THEY MIGHT BE 3RD
@@johnflynn5044 excellent choices, no argument here
i'm so glad to see you with reaction to ABBA
several things to say about "Chiquitita" (1979)
Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like the most ABBA songs
"Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, a masterpiece ; it has hopeful lyrics,
a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo,
then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus;
Agnetha and Anni Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence
It allows us to check how excellent singers Agnetha & Frida are
and what harmonies of excellence they achieve.
It stands out especially when they stretch the monosyllables
with great quality and beauty
"Chiquitita" was premiered especially for the UNICEF Concert (January 9, 1979)
and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF
"Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America,
that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish,
and its success was so extraordinary
that in the following year ABBA recorded a full album with their best songs entirely in Spanish
("Chiquitita" in Spanish is the biggest ABBA hit in My country Argentina)
Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits,
with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece
These official video was filmed in Swizterland 1979 (ABBA goes for a TV Special)
that´s why there's a snowman there
It's the only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden
I hope to see you soon in another ABBA song
my next suggestion is "Fernando " (1976) or "Súper Trouper" (1980)
with the brunette singer Frida in lead voice
GOD bless you and stay safe
My best regards from
Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷
South América
This was written for Unicef for the Year of the Child in 1979.
Written for the Voulez-Vous album but premiered at the UNICEF concert.
My fave Abba song! How could you not love the giant snowman? And there are no chupacabras running around the frozen landscape in Sweden! LOL
One of the most beautiful song for me since i understood the lyics. Event before it was really good.
This was frozen landscape at a sky resort in Switzerland, actually
Same. I love 99% of their catalogue but Chiquitita will be no. 1 ABBA song.
Chiquitita means Tiny little girl (with tenderness, in spanish)
(maybe a girl between 8 and 15 years old...)
Great react 👌
Hey... ABBA has a HUGE Catalog to explore... (Hit after hit... The best pop ever made)
Really you don't know 'Dancing Queen' or 'Mamma Mia'?
'Money money money'?
Well... I hope to see you soon
Greetings ❤ from Chile 🇨🇱👍
Chiquitita = Little One (Spanish)
No cover would beat Abba's original. That's kind of irreplaceable though CHER did a fantastic job to this classic and fit great to her peculiar voice.
I have yet to hear anyone react to a song who has taken the trouble to READ the lyrics before listening. I am wondering why that is. Nevertheless, nice reaction. Edit: Just watched your reaction to the cover version. I cannot BELIEVE that you did not bother to look up what "Chiquitita" meant after that one, or read the lyrics then to find out what you had listened to!
Every time someone in the world listens to Chiquitita or Little Things, it supports UNICEF's work for girls' rights. It's such an amazing way to contribute to a better world for children - through music. Thank you ABBA for 45 years of collaboration, we at UNICEF are so proud of the work we do together to make children's rights a reality for all children.
Lovely
Try "ABBA - If It Wasn't for the Nights ".
One of my favourite songs from that group...Dancing queen is another one of my favorites..
Nice react. It's nice seing your joy at listening that song :)
So many of ABBA’s songs deal with relationships and, in particular, breakups. I would take this one at face value. Consoling a friend or family member who has suffered a loss of some sort - death, breakup, bad news - and a reminder that things will get better and there are good times ahead.
wow first time
You absolutly wrigh just let's go!!!
Chiquitita is spanish for little girl. At the time this song was written Björn Ulvaeus, the man with the guitar, and Agnetha Fältskog, the blond girl, was married to each other and their marriage was starting to fall apart. The rumor has it that the lyrics is about their daughter when they noticed she had noticed something was wrong. This is something Björn denies of course. By the way, the other two in Abba was also a couple.
The rumour is incorrect.
ofcourse it is. that's why it is called a rumour.
@@jackhammer2810 why mention it then
@@helenpeterson Because there is people out there that believe the rumour is true. I think it's important to tell those who maybe have read or heard Agnetha and Björns story that this song isn't about their daughter.
in 1979 ABBA donated all royalties for this song to UNICEF. In many parts of the world young girls are discriminated even before they are born. Every time you play Chiquitita, money is given to projects that supports the rights of young girls. Over the years millions of dollars. Thank you ABBA for helping those young girls. Good music matters.
ABBA's hit Chiquitita helps thousands of girls in Guatemala
Since 1979, Chiquitita has contributed over SEK 50 million to UNICEF's work for girls' rights. From 2014 onwards, the proceeds go specifically to the work for girls' rights in Guatemala.
In 2023 alone, thanks to royalties from Chiquitita, UNICEF was able to support over 1,000 children who were victims of abuse. More than 10,000 children at risk of being abused were protected.
I think "Chiquitita" means little girl in Spanish.
🇨🇦👋 Hi, my father is english, but my mother's side is scandinavian and I wish I was born in 1963 and I loved my dad's music. My mother walked away. What you have to do with some groups especially abba is to remember Where did they come from? And what was the era? The blonde female singer was a product of German rape in Sweden. There was also lots of other things going on. Anyways I just don't know if that makes sense. But I'm sorry I can't. It hurts too much to think about things. Take care and you are wonderful.
Here are 3 great ones for you to react too, Phil Collins live version of In the Air Tonight, Live version of Moody Blues , A Whiter Shade Of Pale and the live version of Procol Harum in Denmark, A Whiter Shade of Pale oh and just one more , for the moment lol, Queen , Somebody to Love , again the live version in Montreal
Dude, great reaction! First video of yours I've seen, and you have a lot of charisma - have you considered going into acting?
You nervously asking to much ! Less is more n all that.. In any case your face is so naturally expressive we can see what you feeling.. Abba a bit formulaic but what a formula !
Your sound is muffled.
Chupa cabra??... ffs! .. 😖
