Talib Kweli, Kool G Rap, Rah Digga, Sporty Thieves, Mos Def, Shabam Shaddeq, Common, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monche, Posdnuos (of De La Soul).
Hip Hop for Respect was a 2000 project which released one EP for Rawkus Records. It was organized by Mos Def and Talib Kweli to speak out against police brutality in general, and the case of Amadou Diallo in particular,
Amadou Diallo had been shot and killed by the New York City Police Department the previous year when he attempted to retrieve his wallet and the police fired 41 shots at the unarmed man, so the subject of police brutality was prevalent.
The project aimed to assemble 41 emcees to represent the 41 shots. Rappers featured on the EP include Kool G Rap, Rah Digga, Sporty Thievz, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Common, Pharoahe Monch, Posdnous, Dante & Main Flow of Mood, Nine, Tiye Phoenix, Breezly Brewin' of Juggaknots, Punchline, Imani Uzuri, EL-P & Mr. Len of Company Flow, Jah Born of Medina Green, What? What?, John Forté, Fre, J-Live, Rubix, Invincible, Wordsworth, A.L., Kofi Taha, Tame One, Jane Doe, Grafh, Shyheim, Channel Live, Wise Intelligent, Crunch Lo, Rock of Heltah Skeltah, Nonchalant, Ras Kass, Dead Prez, & Parrish Smith.
Producers included DJ Khalil, Organized Noize, and 88-Keys. - Hudba
This is real hip hop. Nothing but real MC's on this joint and in this video. G rap and Monch killed it. Peace to the real hip hop
Whole track is dope, but Talib Kweli and Common going back and forth were my favorite. Peace to the Gods.
14 years later, this song still is relevant
I wish it can get even more big... i wish one day such song will make it on the mainstream,. i dnt want this type of gem to stuck on the underground.

I miss this tape... Look how relevant this is right now!
Classic! This is hip hop back to its roots. Unity among MCs and spitting political over a beat.
G Rap is a killing machine, he can kill ANYTHING with his verse.
"Yo you wanna know how to improve on the quality of life try respectin it,
step in my zone with madness and I'm checkin it"
Pharaohe's short verse was fire🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯

Posdnuos verse was my favorite although I loved all of them
Not many, if any, did it better than G Rap. Easily one of the best ever.
Last verse was best. More creative and catchy. Kool G Rap just rapped fast, but what did he really say ?
@@meyou5789 Oh shut up.
@@meyou5789 Google the lyrics and you'll get what he definitely said, he's verse was the best on this one
Kool G Rap is unmatched...
GEORGE FLOYD BROUGHT ME HERE
Bought this cd when I was 16. How time flies
As a young white kid in the suburbs of California at age 14 I remember buying this cd cuz all my favorite rappers were on it. and realizing the gravity of it then hit me like woah, and even more now... seems like the lyrics are more factual than ever year by year now smh

Salute: powerful message + the tune slaps + classic video. Nothing more needed
At this point I believe G Rap is the greatest rapper to ever do it period

You Rock!
Can't believe I forgot about this. It was actually 17 years ago not 14 and 15 like everyone else says. It was released in 2k2. But still relevant today. Enough said
It was released in 2000...
@@MrBean617 This could be used for the riots surrounding George Floyd. I can't believe forgot about this, wow how time flies.
The closing to this song is epic!
Where this song been all my life 😮❤
Pure Gold!!!
Sporty Thieves, loved their album back in ‘99
Awesome
This was came out in 2000 before Game's "Don't Shoot" record and before Uncle Murder's "Hands Up" record the latter two coming out 14 years later in 2014. 15 years later police brutality still an issue in the community. Not to mention you can take it back further to KRS-ONE's "Sound of Da Police" and even further to Public Enemy's "911 is A Joke" and N.W.A.'s "Fuck the Police". Police protest has always been prevalent in Hip Hop.
+lifestraight Bo Bo Bo - BDP.
marcleach75 Also Jeru the Damaja's "Invasion" and Ice-T's "Cop Killer".
lifestraight touche.
marcleach75 Bo Bo Bo is another anti-police brutality song?
+lifestraight No, it's police profiling song, that turned into police on citizen violence.
Straight Dope Conciseness. We Need that back.
This dropped 20+ years ago. We been speaking up.

Yeah. I remember this. It was hard emceeing after this dropped because, by the time each of these champions finished recording, every microphone in the continental US had melted.
The UN declared Collective Heat as a war crime.
