  • Welcome back!
    This is the last part of this model.
    It was a lot of time and work what I spent on it.
    I thought I will never finish this one.
    While the disassembling some parts break apart and cracked because of the old plastic condition.
    But in the end I did it and I really like the result! And hope you, too!
    Sad this one is not for my own. But maybe, I will build my own one some day.
    I learned some new techniques and I'll try to master them with the next kits.
    You have something to criticize? Please let me know, what I can do better.
    What do you think, what do I build next? Let me know, what you like to see.
    Another Warbird? Tank? Helicopter?
    Rock 'n' Roll and see you next time!
    David

    New subscriber here. I enjoyed watching this build. Your old kit looks fantastic. I’m currently working on the old Monogram 1/48 JU-87D. I hope my old kit turns out half as good as yours did. Thanks for sharing.

    Another tip when using tape is to stick it to your pants leg before placing on the model. This removes some of the tackiness thereby reducing the chance of lifting paint when you are removing it. Also, when you are removing tape, pull it back on itself instead of lifting it straight up. Grab one end and simply fold it back over the remaining strip. Try to pull as flat as you can to the surface of the model.

    Those "tape chips" as I call them, surface paint coming off with the tape pull, are a good thing. I include them in my weathering/paint chip process.
    I haven't built a He.111 yet. Nice build too.

    • @myplasticprojects
      @myplasticprojects  Před 9 měsíci +1

      A good point! Didn’t saw it like a chipping technique. Yeah, the big one is to big on the tail, but on the wings could have been little chips..

    The tape you used to outline it is basically a rice paper tape called washi tape. Tamiya’s is the same but you pay the hobby label tax. Go to a craft store in the area for scrap booking etc and you will find it in different widths, the colors will be bright but who cares. And you’ll pay 50% or less than Tamiya. Notice how your outline tape came up nicely, it’s a less harsh adhesive.

    If you have more complicated and curved masks you can copy the paint sheme from the instruction manual on real Model size, cut it with scissors and simply hold it over the wing while spraying. This works very well and even have the Advantage, that your border between the two colours is a little bit unsharp.
    On the fusselege you can do the same, but it is s little bit more complicated because of the rounded surface.

    The broad tape is not suited for masking, glue is too strong, from the looks I'd say it is painters tape (been there done that). Degreasing the surface before painting also has a positive effect on paint not coming off when demasking, Vallejo paints are pretty sensitive. Be gentle when you remove the tape ;)

    • @myplasticprojects
      @myplasticprojects  Před rokem

      Thanks for your information!
      I will buy maskingtape in different sizes or try different ways for masking bigger camouflage parts.
      Washing the plastic in a bath of soap should be good before starting the build!?

    great build, comrade!
    but, instead of copper wire, it is better to use thin fishing line. The line is thinner and looks larger. It is easy to paint the fishing line under the copper color with a permanent marker.
    Thank you!

    I have never found a successful technique for dealing with tape that pulls up areas of paint...Once it has pulled the paint up you are left with a step...I've tried sanding it with fine scratch paper, spraying, filling and spraying...the step always seems to come through...I wonder if there is a filler spray that might work...Always a pain when it happens...If it happens on a small panel I can sometimes peel off the rest of that panel and spray the panel again masking it off but that is only if it is on small panel where I can remove all the paint up to the panel line and start again...

    • @myplasticprojects
      @myplasticprojects  Před rokem

      I have to find a technique for me, too.
      I try to wait a couple of hours (not minutes) when i set the varnish before i apply the masking tape.

    • @AeroMaquette
      @AeroMaquette Před rokem +1

      It starts before priming. Ensure the surface is free of oil and grease by cleaning with IPA (alcohol 90% at least), then prime. Let dry for at least 24 to 48 hours or until it is cured. Sand very lightly to eliminate any bumps. You should wear gloves from now on to handle the model or clean it again with water, this time before spraying paint. Let it cure again for 24 to 48 hours. Sand lightly again. If you follow this religiously, you will eliminate 99% of the masking tape tear-up.
      If you do tear up the paint, don't panic. It is fixable. You have two choices. You can remove the paint and primer to the nearest panel lines. Mask around, prime, sand, paint, sand, done. If not, you have to sand using progressively smaller grit (and I am talking starting with a sponge of 800, then 1000, 1200-1500, 2000, 3000, 5000, and 7000 to create a feathering between the paint/primer and the plastic. Please take your time and evaluate frequently to see if you're doing well. Clean with water, prime with successive light coats let cure and come back with light coats of paint until the edges disappear. Allow to dry to assess the work, and spray some more if it is not to your liking? If you see a ridge, start again with sanding.
      Remove some of the sticky stuff when masking by placing the tape on the back of your hand several times.
      If you follow this, tear-ups will become very rare.

    Very nice job. But for a 48-th scale, it is a very sloppy assembly. The weathering is to dirty and innacurate. The joints are not plastered.

      My channel is mostly about "learning" for myself. I just started my journey as a scale modeler and have never practiced the most of the techniques before. meanwhile, if you take a look at my instagram channel, you will notice I transposed many of the advices I got in the comments here. maybe you will find “your comment” in my posts I transposed already :) I hope will like my next build which is coming up in the next days!
