It's really a shame when beautiful cars from a time when car design meant something are allowed to deteriorate to such a terrible degree. The owner should have taken steps to preserve it long before the trees around it grew so big. But I give you credit for making a try.

We need an educational campaign to teach casual car fans the "first do no harm." If you need to pinch a part from a derelict vehicle, at least stuff some rags in the hole and close the damn hood or windows. So many cool cars get ruined beyond restoration by idiots who might as well be vandals.

It's a shame the plugs were out and the intake wasn't better protected, even if it meant putting a junked carb over the ports. Plus, with all the open ended hoses, that engine just didn't stand a chance....but you guys never give up and that makes for great videos.

It does sadden me to see this vehicle in this condition. I mean one can tell that the body of the car has been repainted and it does indeed have the rust cancer in the usual places. But the car appears to be fairly complete. The reason for it being in the junk yard is not really known, but it is sad to see it left out in the elements for so long. These Lincoln Continentals are beasts. The drive train on these cars are heavy duty Ford truck (I took the running gear out of one that was being scrapped). The interior creature comforts of these cars have left no stone unturned. And there was no electronics in the operation of all of the devices in the A/C controls and so forth. It was all vacuum chambers and there must of been miles of vacuum lines. I gutted one of these out for a fellow who had bought it for parts and the body was in bad shape and we scrapped it. I see the usual rust in this car but this car has all the stuff. This is one you should get and put a 100 point restoration on for Christina to drive.

I was a bit surprised with your experience that you had not chalked all pulleys and belts before you tried to turn the crank. Even if the crank does not turn you can easily verify other stuck components water pump alternator air con. comp. Power steering. It is all nice to know where the problems are. What a big job that was to remove the trees. Good luck with your next selection.

Hello Richard & Cristina. Even if you were able to get the engine free and maybe in a running state, I really think that it has so much residual crud and foreign objects internally that you couldn’t vacuum out that it would be a constant problem trying to keep the oil pump screen from clogging up and the engine basically frying itself. Probably the best use of that engine would be the external parts to use on an identical engine in much better condition to get it to a good running condition.

This was sad. Never seen a engine that bad. That car would be a gem restored. You gave it your best try.

Thanks Matt. I am hoping someone buys it for an engine swap. These cars are popular with the resto-mod crowd.

    That's a 460. Possibly 68. The intake is a 68 as evident by the C8 casting number.

Yeah. There’s a technical term for the condition of that engine. It’s just not a term you can use on a family channel. You gave it a real good try though. 😊

It was crazy. It makes me think the valve train was a larger issue than the cylinders.
