Tip: You will never learn it all from one source or in a short time period. No matter what craft you are trying to master, YOU must be dedicated and put the time in. THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN THAN DOING! I will say it again, you must actually do the work to master it. You cannot just watch or read about it and master anything.
You want to be a master bike builder, mechanic, welder, nurse, carpenter or you fill in the blank?
-Don't take for granted opportunities to learn deeper
-Be humble and seek advice
-Be intentional with your learning plan
-Don't blame a school, job or your parents for not giving you ever answer, go get it!

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH, I'm 16 and just got a yz250f 2009 as my first real dirt bike, I could not start it cold for the hell of it no matter what, I thod I bought a shit bike. I watched your video did just as you do and it started first kick cold, thank you sooo much :)
Subbed, i like your detailed info on this, picked up a 02’ for 800$ usd and had zero compression, guy said it dropped a valve so i told my self not to even bother with going to look at it and when i did and kicked it over i knew immediately he was wrong (he bought it from another guy saying that so it wasnt him saying it really), so the guy was generous enough to let me take it apart in his garage and at least see what i was paying for, upon getting head off everything looked okay other then it looked like somebody sanded the head on it🤮🙄 so i said screw it and made a first payment on it and took the motor home (he was also nice enough to let me pull it and take it apart and see whats up with it. So i rebuilt it from crank down even to tearing the trans out and redoing that. So long story short im waiting on a new piston, (had a friend mill the head properly and also gonna have him cut me deeper valve reliefs in piston to keep from valve contact, hopefully when i go to kick it shes gonna fire right up
I’ve been messing with a 2009 YZ250F.
When you drop it, if you pick it up QUICKLY (2-3 seconds), then you can start it in 2-3 kicks.
If you don’t pick it up fast enough then you must wait about 30s-60s after picking it up for the gas to go back to normal
great advice one other thing I've noticed on the 4 strokes that have the decomp lever when they are hot or after a fall if you pull the lever kick it over like 8 times then let the lever out it will fire first kick 90% of the time .this also works for the guy that floods his bike cuz he can't quit giving it gas .

I wish I watched this video before kicking "new to me" bike with boat shoes......hurt my foot... haven't been able to put any weight on my right foot. Lol

I imagine that the bike need to be at TDC and no holding the throttle right
Dam I hurt my foot trying so many times probably I flooded don’t know how but I could smell the fuel from the exhaust

Glad it helped. Have you tried to copy the steps in this video? I don't have your exact model to try and come up with a perfect start procedure. The tips in this video work for many models but I'd hit up some forums specific for your model.

I'm having problems starting a 2007 yzf 450 how can I get it to start the clutch is James. does this bike have a batter
Thanks, I'll definitely try not to touch the throttle. Your right, its very tempting. Especially when my DT250 likes the throttle to be opened up as its kicked. I haven't started mine in a while, so I wanted to empty the tank and put fresh fuel in. Unfortunately as I did this the fuel line ripped. Do you know if I can just buy fuel line of a particular size (and what size) to replace this. Sods law. Thanks,
You can buy fuel line ofthe right size about anywhere, but nothing lasts as long as the OEM and OEM is often thinner in diameter. If I can ever be of service to you, here is a video explains how to connect with me.

I have a 2010 and have to use the decompression lever. If not, she's not going to start is that normal or is my bike molded more than I know
98 yz400f new timing chain and timed, valve job and carb clean and rebuilt starts right up runs for 5 sec then stalls wont take any throttle makes it stall faster great spark carb is getting fuel but motor is not its only starting because i twist the throttle a few times before kicking it over and its starting off the fuel from the accelerator pump squirting it in what is my problem here? This carb was completely gone over and all the passage ways are clean and completely rebuilt orings and gaskets this motor also has new top end gaskets and new rings motor has great compression
When COLD: I use throttle few times (to make sure fuel is in the carb) before I kick, with choke out - then kick.
When HOT: never use throttle.

I have a 2001 YZ 250 F I bought a hot cam auto decompression cam cam I think that this will make it a lot easier to start for not having the lever, do you think all bikes would come out to be like the one that you had still being hard to start or is that one is just being finicky so it's harder to start

Hello Honda...There are positives and negatives to decomp cams...extra parts, weight and cost...vs. a lever and cable. Decomp cams can stick to...(but rarely)

The decomp cam is a direct replacement of the old system. All of the new bikes 2003 and up have them, that should give you an idea of how good or bad they are. There is virtually endless information online about the yz250f's.
Same with my husqvarna te 410 no gas
Mine does not want to start... i have a yz250f 2006. It has gas, anything i should try to get it running?
Mine leaks coolant when hot on idle, is that normal?
Would the red plunger be equal to the hot start lever by the clutch ? Mine is a 05 YZ250F cold starts like a dream . But hit starts are horrible

What if it’s a 2014 fuel injected !? I’m having the same issue you stated.
I'm don't know if this is a "known problem" on EFI models. I would recommend to read the owners manual to start and then talk a dealer that sells a lot of yamaha's to see if there is a preferred starting method. Keep in mind that the bike just may need some attentions as all the rubber parts in the EFI are 6 years old!

So mine does have the lever and only the choke and no red button on the carb, I honestly have no idea what year it is, I THINK it is a 2003 but not fully sure please help

I'm having this same problem with 06 yz250f...not cranking..heard a loud sound come from exhaust pipe...please help,my damn foot is hurting
I had the same with 05 yz250f. Today I've checked the valves - the middle one on intake had 0 clearance. I've fixed that and enjoy the way it starts and idle. I also noticed that previous owner disconnected neutral switch - I've fixed that too.
I have a 2016 YZ250f and i cant find my choke, i dont seem to need it to start it but do some bikes not have chokes?
I don't know for sure but I've seen Shane answer a similar question before and I think it mattered if the bike was fuel injected or carbureted. Let me try and see I can catch Shane to answer quick. His internet is limited right now until the weekend. Shane is in Africa training students this summer. We are just the social media team. He plans on answering channel MEMBER questions each Sunday!

@@colbyclark2479 Shane responded and did say that "early model EFI (fuel injected) systems did have a "choke" that was lever-activated to slightly tip the throttle plate for more air which would force the EFI to richen the system. They got rid of this on most all models he thinks as people would forget to turn it off and foul plugs". Wait doesnt dealerships have this 10 year warrenty. like if your bike is a 2001 and its 2013 they wont work on it because its too old?
It’s not all dealers but many. Check your local dealer to see and I bet if you buy the extended warranty, they would most likely work on it.
