My best friend was recently a victim of the tornadoes in Tennessee on Dec. 11, 2023. She wasn’t hurt, but her aunt was in the ICU for two weeks after being impaled by debris from their garage. I live in a state where we have only had 138 tornadoes since 1950, about 2-3 per year. We’ve only had one F2, and nothing higher than that. So much respect for you and other storm chasers and spotters. Y’all are keeping a lot of people safe by getting out there and reporting danger so that others can get shelter. Thank you for what you do.
I live in Virginia Beach. Last summer there was an F3 tornado in a neighborhood a few miles away. Tornadoes like that are virtually unheard in this region. Worst storm I've ever seen, hurricanes I've been through weren't even close. Scary stuff. Respect to these chasers and all the people affected by these storms
the metal visor he made for his windshield to block hail is absolutely BRILLIANT
As a photographer, Daniel is one of the individuals I would love to accompany as he constantly analyzes positions to prioritize safety, visibility and talking through the genesis and documentation of the events. Could get me much closer than I am comfortable navigating myself and could result is some spectacular museum worthy images.
As a Kansas, a Wichitan in fact, I appreciate your channel so much! I'm glad that there is a way for people across the world to see the sort of insanity we get in the region as far as weather goes.
**I'm SO GLAD no one perished in this storm.**
That's good to here , property and cars can be replaced but people can't...God Bless...!! Mark G Dublin Ireland !!
The contrast between the clear blue sky on the left and the dark orange in the storm is beautiful.
I love watching the intricate details of the base of thunderstorms! I guess it only happens with T-storms. All the churning and swirling is truly mesmerizing!
Wow---that "gustnado" (around 50 minute mark of video) went from a pretty, benign, leisurely evening viewing object to a full-fledged dangerous oncoming tornado. Amazing encounter!
Best stormchaser videos around.
Yikes! Really glad to hear this chaser paying so much attention to staying safe. Sometimes the chasers scare me.
Excellent work on the edit Daniel! It was such an intense chase, with one of the most memorable photos of the chase season. Well done! 😊
LOL, when is Danial Shaw NOT approaching a twisting storm. I chuckle every time I hear that. Daniel is the best chaser out there. 🌪️🌩️🌧️
I think our GPS should give this alert: "you're driving in the same direction as david shaw... pecos hank... are you sure you want to?"
@@user-wi9hv2pb2qReed Timmer is literally right beside you...bro is definitely taking you to the nado.
52:50 Man that school bus was going right towards it.
Wow, I just saw and thought the same thing and there's your comment sitting just to the right of the video. It's like the bus was barreling into the mouth of the monster.
good, the children are helpless and at the hands of an inbicell. Goes to show how vulnerable children are, they can't decide to get out and leave themselves lol.
@@editiongamingyt5761 "inbicell"? whos the imbecile now?
Thank you for all of your selfless efforts Daniel, without the dedicated chasers like yourself who devote their time to the research of these violent winds the people who unfortunately find themselves in the path of these storms would not have the advanced warnings that they now do. It is a fantastic and invaluable service that you and your fellow storm chasers provide. I Salute You and Those like you Sir.
What service is provided?
@@jimmyhaley727 Are you asking genuinely or sarcastically?
I'm from Dickinson County, I remember this day 😅 I have a video still saved in my phone of the insane rotation over my house, lord we were so nervous. luckily we were safe. it's nice to see this footage since we were obviously in our storm shelter the whole time. thank you for what you do!
Glad to here you and yours were safe , God Bless and stay safe...!! Mark G Dublin Ireland !!
cheers from abilene. i remember this storm
Watching these while you’re “running for your life” it’s astonishing to see school buses and other vehicles driving straight into it 😱
My favorite tornado stream of the whole year, thank you Daniel. Everyone is missing out if they don’t subscribe Daniel’s channel. The amount of money he invests coming from Australia is crazy!
He isn't a permanent US resident?
@@ext93 no. He’s an Aussie.
whenever you chasers turn around and run from a storm I always get so anxious for the people who pass you going towards the storm.. I wish you were able to warn them of what they're heading into, but I know that's futile in a situation like that :/ maybe you need a PA on your car lol
A tale as old as storm chasing itself
gets distracted
"Oh S**t, Oh, s**t!"
This is a good example of how quickly a chase can turn bad after a loss of SA, glad you survived as well as the residents of Andover KS. Keep up the good work. Id love to chase one day but its not economically sound for me to do so. I just get to vicariously do it through yall. Thanks!
he has not lost SA , he did the right thing a left just in right time because he had the Situal awareness. But this was a freak out Moment on the Livestream because it came close.
You do not approach twisting storm. Twisting storm approach you.
That was some scary stuff.
I'm waiting for the warning voice, to one day say, "You are approa - nevermind, you never fucking listen to me anyways..."
I remember this. I live in Sedgwick County in Kansas. My son was walking home from Walmart and the picture he took of the background. You could see three tornadoes forming. It actually hit less the 10 miles from our home. I will never forget this day
Some of the most beautiful videography of tornadoes. Epic! I could have watched them all night....oh...wait..I did watch them all night...you got yourself a new subscriber!!
Phwoar, that orange sky reminds me of bushfire season here in Aus, the sort of sky where you can’t tell if it’s day or night. I’ve always been fascinated by tornadoes & big storms, interest was sparked as a kid in cyclone season. Used to watch the old “extreme weather” type documentaries of tornado alley, gripped to the edge of my seat both fascinated and terrified of them. Can’t say I’m necessarily tempted to do a tornado tour of duty, although never say never. But for the meantime, finding your channel is enough to get my fix. Stay safe king
Didn't realize just how "lucky" I am to live here in Oklahoma where I could chase and see the tornados for free lol!
I love this guy's videos. Awesome stuff and accent
That colour in the initial clip is phenomenal... and when the lightning flashes! wow.
I encountered a tornado like this mid afternoon in northern florida. i was driving northeast so it was in front of me or I was approaching the storm from behind?. The reflected sunshine was so orange and bright i thought i had somehow turned around and was driving west instead. I have also encountered that extra golden 'brassy' light from a blue sky in India before a monsoon struck.
Thank you for your caring, and your calm, cool, collected reporting Daniel.
OHH MYYYY GOSH!!!! for me this has to be the best storm chaser channel out there. I was so engrossed I felt I was inside the car with you!!! That was breathtaking, beautiful but absolutely terrifying!!! The aftermath was devastating. Its so rare to see a video from start to unfortunate end and be given so much information throughout. I'm in the uk so these are unfamiliar to me. I'd be a stormchaser if we had them here!! Thankyou and hello from ur new subscriber 😁
you really should join his Livestreams in 2023 they on Patreon , only for Supporters but i can tell you i follow his Chases since 2016 and i was hooked( haha) in an Instant ( germany here). Every Stream is a Adventure Daniel takes us with. Great Audio , great stable Internet and so much fun and sometimes also serious times where he goes into operational Mode. But Meeting Friends is the best and cute Critters.
England averages about 30 tornadoes per year. Not on the scale of the plains states here, but they do occur there.
@@obsidianwing ooo ty for telling me 😁
I live in Kansas. Near the Missouri border and I've never (thank god( has to deal with a tornado. Wild to think these happen in my state
lol I drove through Kansas, Missouri, and most of Nebraska one week. My first and only time: in April of 2011. I have never been back but it gave me the impression you guys have non stop major tornados every spring. I really felt like I saw the Midwest after that.
Around 46:00 minutes in , is that a horizontal vortex sticking out?
Are you coming to the States for the 2023 storm season? Love your videos and your accent lol!
Was reminiscing with my sister today about storms we've experienced. When I was 10 a storm came in from the north. It looked other worldly and felt it too. The clouds were black purple in day time. I've never seen such black thick storm clouds ever since and I'm 57 and it knocked big trees down this was in Bloomington Minnesota approximately 1975. It was such thick clouds it looked like dusk outside which I think it was just before noon
Damn that storm is s beauty. The rotation, structure,... amazing.
Terrific lightning shots too 🌩🌪👍
A couple of times I thought you were getting way too close to the tornadoes. Very grateful for your work as a storm chaser. Stay safe always Daniel.
Great Coverage I'm a Local Skywarn in Dickinson County and My Hometown is Chapman. I was able to get Footage of that First Tornado at 6:30pm.
Tornado : "What are YOU lookin' at?!"
Shaw : "You. You're very photogenic!"
Tornado : "Then take a picture, it'll last longer."
Shaw : "Ok......'clickclickclick."
Tornado : "Your ass is MINE!"
Shaw : "Shit! Shit! Shit! Ruuuunnnnn!!!!"
crazy stuff at 50:00 ... thanks for the video !
Amazing footage, I would love to see & hear a tornado, from a distance of course.
The raw power of nature, amazing.
At 52:50 you are driving like the devil is chasing you and that bus and some cars are just driving in to it like nothing is wrong 😲
That was amazing..who cares if he does it for the money or the science hes worked hard for both. I've seen this man stop the chase to run into destroyed homes and rescue strangers. He goes headfirst into the tornado nobody knows whats gonna happen it couldve sucked them up and spit them out in pieces point is HE DID IT AND HE DESERVES HIS RECOGNITION AND RESPECT. The ones hatin on him are in their shelters scared to death. Salute to Reed and his team. That was awesome and i believe that one day because of you guys we will all be prepared and safer whenever these monsters come to life. Thank you for what you do. Stay safe and be Blessed
He shows more concern for random syranger Americans than most Americans. Storm chasing helps everyone so long as you do it right: with safety, science, and compassion.
Great job editing a huge amount of footage, Daniel!
thanks for posting 4k video most video of tornado's will not make great snapshots for paintings.
Hey there Daniel. Just curious, everyone always warns about amateurs, and some people complain about the field of storm chasing not being regulated. Have you and other veterans ever thought about an apprenticeship program, where you each get an amateur or two, and spend a season or two with them, to show them how to be safe and helpful? Like maybe year 1 would be you making the decisions and explaining why, and the second year could be allowing them to make the calls and predictions, while you are there to watch them and make sure they don't do anything stupid.
Good question, but there is no room in my car. The best thing I do is extended edits which show some degree of thought process, but the best way to learn and watch is live via Patreon. You get to hear every decision and indecision process made.
@@DanielShawAU good to know! I like severe storms, but I am also aware that I am insignificant next to Mother Nature, so I keep my distance as best I can.
@@kevinashley478 and that's the best way to learn.. Keep your distance and watch Daniel & Pecos hank videos on training storm chasers and so on! Daniel and Hank are hands down the most professional, advanced, experienced storm chasers with decades of chasing experience individually that there are in the field! Dan, skip over all that above.. Lol
@@kevinashley478 Skip Talbot is also really good. He actually has training videos on his channel. Highly recommend him too.
That school bus was headed right into that tornado!!
Thank you, Daniel! Looking forward to your return next Spring!
You are the David Attenborough of the storm chasing world
Super job, Daniel! Great video. I learned a lot and will show this to my students. Very best,
Wow so awesome that day was. What a strange landspout ey? And so long lasting with that color and incredible structure. I was just south of you just before we both almost "got hit" and bailed! Plus the multiple spinups alomg that line were impressive. What a day.
Amazing video! Loved the first part where you recorded the development
this is quality content. i used to watch him because i love tornadoes. and guess what? i found content like the ones i watched.
This was beautiful footage
Been watching for a few days and I love how you remain calm when chasing tornados, I have been interested and love tornados ever since I was a kid after I watched Twister, Night of the twisters, and from TV shows that had Reed, Sean, that dude in the giant doppler radar truck (forgot his name), the TIV, etc. Although I never seen a tornado in real life but had the sirens go off multiple times, I seen a lot of severe storms but never tornados, it can happen in my state Wisconsin but more down south than where I am.
I am now subscribed and I can't wait for more of these to come out.
Crazy the tornado that went by Andover was in my apartment complex just in front
Say hi ✌ from Germany. Your Chanel is 👍👌. Good wishes 🥰
Those rapid changes from light to pitch black are insane.
It's even worse when the sky turns green😮 really
Bomb tornado.. Kansas born raised❤
The most notable tornado on that day was a very photogenic but intense (EF3) that happened in Andover, the radar had the debris ball (the tornado itself) completely de-attached from the main storm, Reed's drone footage of the tornado shows how intense it really was
I gotta watch these on my big tv and not my tiny cell phone. The colors are so pretty. This storm had lots of fun action. Night Spotting is scary as hell!!!
I can’t believe how many people were driving right into that storm/tornado, especially the school bus!😱
So sad all those people lost everything they had. Be kind to one another. Stay safe. Love to all
Always my fav chaser! Thank you Daniel!
This is no joke at 18 minutes and 39 seconds you catch a UFO falling straight down out of the clouds and it sweeps to the left and disappears into the ground it comes out of the clouds. I don't think it's a bug or a raindrop because there's no rain dropping at the time and normally there's not bugs around during a storm like that. keep up the good work by the way I love watching your videos. I'm in Abilene Texas so I see a lot of this myself ,but you got some amazing footage.
That is a great line “Let’s not be under strange”!
That strange "thingy" has a look similar to dust storms we'd get immediately prior to the thunderstorms in SE Tempe, AZ. We had our dairy farm then... 65 years ago.
I live in Augusta KS, just to the East of Andover. I remember that day.... love these storms!
51:00 is one of my all time favorite scenes on your channel. I still wonder what happened to all who drove into the tornado as you were escaping. What were they thinking? 🤷
That is gorgeous, well-defined rotation at the cloud base. Absolutely beautiful.
I've fallen asleep to this video for a whole month
My house was directly under that mesocyclone, we pulled all the dogs inside and watched the rotating cloud pass over. Cool experience but scary as well, mainly for Andover which was the first tornado i've seen.
Fantastic footage many thanks for sharing 🙏
I just wish you would provide information about which direction the camera is facing and also the direction you are driving.
Out of curiosity, why do you use GR level 3 when you can get level 2 radar on your phone?
Wow that light and colors are amazing!
The "Steve Irwin" of storm chasers. ♥️🙏💪✌️👏👊
Krikey this Tornado is GRUMPY!
Have a go at this little rippa! Ain't she a beauty...Whooo! By Crikey!
Let’s hope not!
Sounds like him too.
Yawning! This was the longest I've watched a non tornado video in my life. Thanks for wasting a1:30 of my time.
To be fair just because you cannot see a tornado in the horizon, it's still best that the early warning broadcast sounds off alerting of such a hazard. Do you really want the alerts going off once the funnel hits the dirt or much much earlier?
Wow beautiful footage as a lifetime Kansan I’ve seen this a couple times and it’s so hard to explain but you saw it all
Did you see at 45:20 how the cloud formation looked EXACTLY like Valcor from The Never Ending Story?
@1:12:13 that wind howling in the back ground sounds terrifying
Daniel I’m from Osage City Kansas and I’ve been a storm spotter and chaser for many years and I would love to meet up with you sometime, you have some great videos but you guys get to excited at times I’ve been in tornado’s and just got beat up respect them very much you just have to watch yourselfs i can really tell when they’re getting ready to shift I see and feel it before it happens, Thanks guys
Why in the hell are those vehicles riding into the Tornado?
Nice! Wait was this from today or past spring?
Past spring
@53:04, 53:05, 53:06, and 53:07 those other vehicles going towards the storm have no clue as to what awaits them!
How dark the clouds are is insane. Literally a night and day change.
wow this is absolutely incredible to watch 😲
What video camera did you use here?
The last end of your video looked like what happened eastern part of Andover Kansas.
Governing an ungovernable storm , provided a real ground level pounder
Beautiful footage and thank you for your efforts love watching your content ❤
I know that Moore is “ground zero” for tornados, but Andover has to be a close second. I feel like almost every storm outbreak in the plains involves Andover taking a hit or a near miss.
Does the UK have tornadoes?
this is a truly incredible and beautiful chase! great work Daniel!
Excellent, just excellent!
It's too bad the Wichita event overshadowed this day, Daniel. We had at least four landspout/genuine tornadoes off of these storms from structure that was near the top of what I've seen in 15 years of chasing. It looks like you were close to us the whole time - we were right under the storm you pictured firing up on the dryline early and I'm sure you were as nervous as we were when these didn't exactly look great rolling off the press. What a disappointingly looked-over event - I still would have rather seen Wichita, but it wasn't like this was just an ordinary door prize.
@30.10 there's the Mothership coming in Daniel! awesome I can't take my eyes off it!
Wow. What a spectacular vantage point. 😯🙏
Thank you for your time and energy in recording this video of the storm you are chasing.
Love your camera work
What app was telling you that you were driving towards the storm
Must of been a rented bus I hope luv watching the storm chasers
