Great video! Seems like a really satisfying deck to play, and your clear explanations for your decisions are always super helpful

wow, competitive pauper edh -- very compounding niche interests! cool deck though, and in a place I like for 60-card pauper as well, good ol' white weenie. never played pdh but if this is the caliber of deck I can expect to see I should check it out.

Great video! Would you be willing to share your moxfield link to your updated decklist in the description or comments?
Great deck. Like you mentioned, I think you could safely play a few more utility lands, especially untapped ones like radiant fountain and seraph sanctuary. Crystal grotto and cave of temptation could be in the considered pile. Fair basilica could a fourth cycling land instead. Haunted fengraf and hidden courtyard (new) also worth playtesting to covert lands into spells in the late game? Idyllic grange probably to often a tapped land, agree on leaving that out. Wonder how often you have time/mana to activate dig site? I love that card in ramp/control decks, but not sure it’s worth a slot in a more aggressive deck like this. Similarly for the investigate mana rock, seems fairly expensive?
    Love to hear your thoughts.
Springleaf drum also plays well with the vigilance theme of the deck and allows you to cheaply ramp/keep open mana.

The link in the description will be the one I maintain.
I'll probably have more to say about this at the start of my next discussion vid but the short answer is that I'm really conservative when it comes to adding utility lands.
Crystal Grotto - I don't value scry very highly. Especially in a deck like this where I'm not combo. It adds some consistency, helping you draw into things that you need better at the moment but it also takes away consistency in color intensive hands. I think I just favor the consistency of a Plains more rather than getting tricky. When compared to Tocasia's Digsite, Digsite is repeatable and I do find myself activating it fairly regularly and have lived the dream of putting Prismatic Strands into the yard more than once.
Cave of Temptation, Fair Basillica, Hidden Courtyard, and Haunted Fengraf - I'm very averse to sacrificing my mana sources. I assume that eventually I'll need to pay for my commander again so even if the card is useful, that will mean 1 more turn without my commander potentially. I also value my land drop very highly. Running very few mana rocks and ramp spells probably has a lot to do with that.
Idyllic Grange - Probably the closest utility land to being in the deck. With how few other utility lands I play, my deck might be one of the decks that are best positioned to play this so maybe I should just throw it in there. A single +1/+1 counter can make a huge difference in combat.
Springleaf Drum - I see the logic of putting it in the deck and actually have a hard time explaining why it's this way but I tried it and noted that 4/5 games that I drew it, I would rather have a Plains and just have to trust my experience.

I don’t know why but lands are my favorite part about PDH. Land discussion video when??

I've been putting it off because that script is easily going to be 30 pages lol. I'll get around to it haha

Great video, not sure why but it seems like you didn't include Warded Battlements into discussion, which is a shame since it's the only common creature to give +1 power constantly for no cost

My big hang-up with it is that I can't attack with it and it's only when you're attacking but I could see that being in the deck. I might have to test it.

Got a question: How well do you feel Hamza, Guardian of Arashin is in Comp Pauper Commander? He is my best deck, and I want to know if he is at all viable there.

    • @lobbert8
      @lobbert8  Před 9 měsíci

I've only played 2-3 competitive pods against it but I'll speak from my experience the best I can. I would never say any deck that a person feels confident with isn't viable. It seemed to consistently present a threatening board that it's a decent clock for a table and demanded answers. What would worry me about picking it up myself is the voltron elements of the deck that need A+B to work, not to mention the payoffs so you're juggling A, B, and C, which breeds inconsistency. In the games I played, I could definitely see that the players solved the consistency issues but they struggled to rebuild after becoming the dominant table threat for turn and eating some removal so that initial consistency may have been at the expense of value that you're going to need in the mid-late game, where you're forced to compete because you're not a blazing fast aggro deck.
For you, I think the equivalent of me switching from Alert Heedbonder to Thraben Watcher might be switching from Hamza to Loyal Guardian, where the commander takes care of the voltron aspect so well that you're way more free to play creatures and interaction in the 99. I've never played Hamza, though, so take my opinions with a grain of salt.
