I’ll watch a sequel about the 1% decks in pauper
Did you do it?
"I pronounce boggles as boggles and gif as gif, because I'm not a monster"
*proceeds to pronounce mana as maw-na*
Also, how then do they pronounce Boggle? Can't be the same
Also To-lah-rian
That's how it's pronounced. Mana is an ancient Polynesian word.
@@jahnyguitah7999
I know it should be maa-nah in english, but he pronounces it really weirdly. He uses almost like an "o" sound. I have never heard anyone pronounce it like that.
Im crying 😂😂😂
I literally ssid the same thing 😂
Colossal Dreadmaw finally getting the recognition it deserve.
Yessir
is it actually playable in pauper?
@@demilembias2527 any nothing card is
a small error in the bogles section, Ancestral Mask doesn’t count enchantments you control, but ALL enchantments. That includes The Modern Age, Makeshift Munitions or Spirited Companion that your oponent might be playing.
There was another small error in that section, it's pronounced bogles with an o sound, not a ah sound. The way they were pronouncing it was boggles, which is a separate word. This is unlike gif vs jif, which I agree with them on, but these are actual words which have been around for a significant amount of time. It's bogles not boggles
@@Kraaz0n But bogle sounds like an exotic disease :P

wrong format!
This video is a boon to Pauper, and I will use this video as my ultimate resource to show the diversity and interesting gameplay the format has to offer. Thank you so much.
the fact i play pauper and have not a single one of those decks, and still have a ton of fun playing says a lot. there really are only 2-3 outliers in power, rest of the decks are extremely close together. pauper is variety!
Seen this 1 y later is absurd, a lot of decks are now in the >1% position
13:25 -Boros bully got its name from the namesake card Mage Ring Bully, which has not been run in the deck for some time.
yep, it got replaced by seeker of the way when that became legal in pauper, which also eventually fell to the wayside for more aggro-oriented cards, although seeker does still live on in some builds of boros/mardu synthesizer, which use it alongside synthesizer, ichor wellspring, glint hawk, and kor skyfisher for value
I do also remember that the name came from the deck being a sole "faeries beater" back when faeries was tier 1, thus "bullying faeries".
@sebastianbaumruker80 I mean, you are not wrong, deluxeicoff (pauperganda) made the original deck.
@Timothy Bodette - Boros Bully was designed and made by mtgo guru 'deluxeicoff' - also hosts PAUPERGANDA on youtube. Has nothing to do with Mage Ring Bully lol
@@kevino.rivera2556I believe that too
you know, usually these types of videos are done so meanderingly and never really get into what makes the deck ticks but this one was great, thanks
This breakdown and explanation made me genuinely interested in trying out Pauper.
I have built a varity of pauper decks stuffed in a Gamegenic Dungeon to play with my gf, friends and summer camp colleagues and not only does it feel professional it feels like absolute top tier artisanal MtG. Try it! Print decks!
Unironically the best mtg format imo
Also an important aspect of the format is that decks really don't stay in one archetype. Faeries is a tempo deck, but it's also a control deck, you legit can just drop a 1 mana blocker and sit back with counterspells and removal or you can go 1 mana threat, 2 mana threat and swarm with counterspell backup. Affinity can also do the same, UB terror is a tempo deck as well kinda like deaths shadow where you resolve the first 3 turns and then drop haymakers and protect em but it still can pivot into a pure control route. Boros bully can adopt any engine it wants (the gates engine, the artifact lands + cleansing wildfire engine, etc. And just have both gameplans ready) and many other examples, which is great in the format, decks respect each other's gameplans and isn't focused deck vs focused deck rock paper scissors game, it actually revolves around the gameplay instead of metagame choice.
holy hell you crammed so much information into 18 minutes that's insane good job
tron also uses things like crop rotation to get consistency on tron lands
I built a pauper Battle Box for less than a modern deck. 12 decks! This is largely because my friends let me look through all of their commons, and if I was willing to do all that work alone they just gave me the cards.
I loved how you were able to fit so much info on each deck in such a tight space of time. And I'm really happy for that. Short, simple and easy to understand! Well done!
Finally! I’m so excited for this
Wow great video! Your voice is perfect for explaining clearly without a hint of annoyance! “AYO! WHATS UP GUYS!!!ITS YA BOYYY…..” 🙄
Remember to HIT SUBSCRIBE and SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON and RING THE BELL for notifications! This is ya MTG bro signing off Peace!
Thank you for this video! I haven't seen such a simplified, to the point and specific video! There wasn't any unnecessary info. Very informative and efficient! I wish all the videos would be like this one! Great job man!
I know why Boros Bully is named that, actually. It originally started life as a Boros Aggro deck brewed with Mage-Ring Bully, which is just a generic Prowess threat, as the centerpiece. Over enough time circulating through the meta, though, people realized a Boros swarmy Aggro deck with Rally the Peasants had legs, but could really stand to have stronger creatures than Mage-Ring Bully in the deck. Its current iterations have absolutely moved past all but the most enduring cards that make it work, but even without the namesake creature at all, the name stuck. It’s one of the most straightforward and creature-rich decks on offer, and doesn’t have a huge amount of surprises relative to the rest of the field pre-sideboard.
And also a great thing about it is that it's just a shell as well. Flashback+faithless looting and solid beaters, means the deck can adopt any other engine the format has to offer like gates, red ramp or anything else.
so wrong in all the ways, it's created by deluxeicoff and made to BULLY mono u delver, it's always had seeker of the way and it is as all white decks full of little tricks
This has been in my recommendations for some time now.
After diving in, am amazed.
Chef's kiss!
This is why I adore pauper. I don't play any deck in this video and still have fun and most likely have a decent matchup against them. Thank you for doing the format justice 💙
Very well done. Probably the best video I've seen on the format. All killer, no filler!
Awesome video! A quick note on the Familiars section is that it's actually more of a combo control list then a straight value list. It ends up playing as you said but it runs a 6 card combo that gains infinite life. it sounds like a crap shot but you end up playing the cards naturally and you draw so many cards that it kinda just assembles itself. There is also versions of the deck that run an infinite mana combo as well.
Incredible video! Super helpful for someone new to the format!
Thank you so much. As someone new to pauper I found this guide really informative and am looking forward to rocking out a burn deck at locals soon!
There are a few decks missing because of how they are put together on mtggoldfish
Altar Tron, RB Madness burn, Boros Synth, Ponza, are all decks you can expect to regularly run into as well.
UR fae looks like a tempo deck but a lot of the time it's really a value control deck, and regularly wins games through 1/1 beatdowns. Mono U fae is a tempo deck.
Familiars has two builds as well, one has a combo finish by making infinite mana and milling the opponent with compulsive research.
Isn’t value control and tempo the same thing?
@@SunsetofMananope
what's the difference?@@maxwelledison03
This was exceptionally well done.
Great video, really concise info. People should be aware that these decks are likely to change out (anyone remember Tribe combo?) as new cards get added to the pool, but really this is a very good general overview with a good focus on the broad archetypes. Lots of changes have happened in the last few years since MH1, so Id love to see a follow up video in a year or so.
Ive also never understood why the red invoker is chosen considering blue blast exists.
That was great! Lots of cool decks I've never heard of before. Pauper looks interesting!
Almost ready with my Dimir TERROR deck! Mostly play Pioneer, but super exited to play some Pauper 👌🏽
Great overview video -- though I'd also suggest people look at the metagame in general, as there are dozens of other decks that make up less than 1% of the meta but are still viable competitive decks (Elves and Tortured Existence are notably cult favourites).
Simic infect and Boros heroic are two other decks that have seen decent play at my LGS. Just thought I'd mention them here.
I'll have to look for simic infect, I love poison play styles
With the goblins, you forgot about dark dweller oracle, which can draw through your entire deck using the mana and putrid goblin, and oracle is tutorable with goblin matron.
He also forgot that Goblin Matron can directly tutor Flamewave Invoker, that would act as a win condition for the infinite mana.
@@henrikmoilanen5716 Yep. I run 1 main deck and have 1 or 2 in the sideboard depending on how I'm feeling.
great job! as always.
Fan-freaking-tastic summary! Thanks!
Great video, thanks! 🎉
Man, I love your content
I have waited for eternity, and my patience has been rewarded.
Boggle and bogle are two different things, boggle is to confuse, overwhelm or astonish. A bogle is a small phantom or spirit.
Very good video, thank you for your time!
Fae is also seen in blue black, and is better than ur/u depending on the meta
You can also add the gates package to boros bully. It's a little bit slower, but with all the recursion it lets you ram your threats through even if they stop your Rally.
Extremely useful!!
Please make a part 2 with Elves, Slivers, etc. I sent this to my friends and we're not teaming up to build pauper decks.
Just a couple of small nitpick corrections, UB Terror is more of a tempo deck rather than a control one, cause it can also get some fast wins out of nowhere and doesn't aim to longer games (such as decks like Fae and Teachings, that are actual Dimir control decks, do), the "UB Control" notation comes from a naming mistake made by MTGGoldfish, like "Burn" that is usually called "Kuldotha red", while the "Burn" name is used more for the spell-focused variant that at the moment is lower in meta
So glad to see pauper picking up in popularity
13:23 As someone already mentioned, Boros Bully is originally named after Mage-Ring Bully, a card the deck originally ran. The deck was first invented by deluceicoff of Pauperganda fame (producing pauper content for years). This has been documented on CFB as well, e.g. look for Boros Bully deck tech by Alex Ullman from October 20, 2020.
Cool vid! Maybe not the best rep with red's stranglehold on the format limiting what's viable (online anyways). Hope the vid does well enough to consider covering other lists like MBC later on.
Pauper is great, but I must recommend Penny Dreadful. It is free. $0.00. You get to play with powerful cards like Cloudpost, Ponder, Treasure Cruise, Goblin Charbelcher, Monastary Swiftspear, Wrath of God, the list is over 15,000 cards.
isn't penny dreadful online only?
I finally just got the main board for my dimir infect deck. Now I'm working on the side board
You deserve more sub my broutha
As a proud temur ponza player, our day will come.
No, seriously, playing Altisaur and cascading Boarding Party and Mulldrifter at like turn 4 is an amazing feeling.
I would say sweepers are present in the form of Fiery Cannonade/Breath Weapon, Arms of Hadar, and the recently acquired Drown in Sorrow and Sulfurous Blast, but the gist is understood.
13:34 okay so Boros Bully is called that because in the early days of the deck (DeluxeIcoff from Pauperganda originated it), it would play Mage-Ring Bully, which is a 2 mana 2/2 with prowess that has to attack each turn, later to be upgraded by Seeker of the Way, which was downshifted to common in Iconic Masters.
the idea is because you have so many flashback spells, you can beef up your prowess creature while also going wide.
its a shame that almost nobody knows the true origin of the deck.
I myself have the other variant in paper, jeskai bully, which didn't succeed the way Boros bully did. but it was piloted adjacent to the boros version to see if the blue mattered or not.
you can still find Paupergandas streams about the deck
And Pauper still has decks like Kiln Fiend, which can kill on turn 3, thing that some of decks in Modern can't do.
I play pauper and I have an Infect and Eye Candy decks, I was expecting them to be on this video but apparently less than 1% players use them.
Great video 10/10
Would be cool to see pauper on mtg arena
Kuka Beyo, japudi!
What about Boros Synthesizer ? 😢😢
I admittedly only play standard and only on mtga, but my biggest issues with mtg in general are the strength of what's strong. When you both get emptier hands each draw can be so so big.
Maybe I'll try to find a way to sample this format. I've never played Paper but maybe I'll mess with mtgo to try it out. Hmm.
Tbh i find the lack of big swingy cards and planeswalkers that are often unchallengeable value ( unlike initiative/monarch for an instance) makes the game a lot more fun for me, as well as making the small advantages one gets more relevant and sideboarding more fun
If I wanted to build two meta Pauper decks that were equally matched to teach my girlfriend magic with, which two would you guys recommend? Thanks!
I appreciate a man of pronunciation taste
This is a really good video that is genuinely helping me to get into Pauper right now, but I'm gonna be honest, every time you say "mawh-na", a little bit of my brain dies.
Im very glad this video exists but i dont think its very accurate
For starters, what you called dimir control isnt a control deck at all, goldfish called it that but the original name for the deck was turbo terror, bc you absolutely cannot win the late game. you win by slamming a couple big 5/5s and then protecting them with counterspells
Secondly, you forgot the mention the brainstorm + squadron hawk synergy, which is the core of that deck
Thirdly, what you called 4 colour gates is called naya gates. goldfish called it 4 colour bc gates decks often splash a fourth colour in hte sideboard bc its really easy to get the mana with the gates, but the deck is really just WRG
I dont really think familiars is a control deck as they barely play any removal, its more of a value combo deck imo
I hope more people play pauper and thank you for making this video
I like this video
Pauper Heroic is a really fun time
Every time I look at pauper decks, it's like, the most based stuff a man can imagine.
Got one for pedh?
Where's Prowess? I thought Kiln Friend decks with Swiftspear were topping the format.
Kiln Fiend has largely been supplanted by Kuldotha Burn as the main red deck in the format. You don't lose much speed and in return Kuldotha is much less of a glass cannon which is very good when Hydroblast/Weather the Storm are some of the most played sideboard cards in the format
I definitely read the thumbnail as "Guide to Every Upper Decker"
If a card is originally printed as common, but is later reprinted as non common, are you still allowed to use it? If you were to have the original printing, as a common, I mean. Or would you go by the current printing?
If a card is printed as common anywhere (including digital-only sets on MTGO and Arena) then it's Pauper-legal.
Wow. Elves main player here. List still 5-0 in league regularly. Where’s the love?
So... Gates.
As a Gates player since Dragon's Maze (2013), I think I'll give Pauper a chance.
Mardu Synth!!
^ This guy paupers.
I don't agree with the labelling of Dimir "Control" as a control deck. While the deck can certainly play a longer game, your primary plan is playing 2 5/5s on turn 4 and then trying to win in 2-3 turns, using countermagic and interaction to keep your opponent on the back foot. If you try to play a full control game with Dimir you run into the problem where you need so many cantrips to enable your 5/5s that you sort of run out of relevant cards in your deck by the time you stabilize
Ironically while you highlight Affinity's "tempo" gameplan, the deck has a much better control plan than Dimir. You have a million draw 2s, and most lists are on mainboard Krark-Clan Shaman (arguably the most potent sweeper in the format)
Didnt Cranial Plating get a common print and therefore should be legal?
It's on the ban list.
Where is my jund cascade :,( i love that deck
Im just simlpy asking. WHERE TF IS SIMIC INFECT
(sry my favourite deck😅)

Perhaps if you pronounce mana as mahna, don't judge how others pronounce bogles and gif. Other than that insanity, great video!
Rip that mono Black wasnt mentioned
meanwhile I have my Sultai Energy deck and my Gruul Bloodrush deck...Pauper rocks
Where's poison storm? 😢
I need a 10 dolar price range format. 100 dollars for a deck is still insane to me.
I'll be playing 5 colors using Terrace
There isnt an o in the mana, nor a u after the a in the word mana.
no love for mono black devotion?
You mean White Black Ephemerate? It runs Goliath Paladin.
Tortured Existence! 🤘
I would love to see Ammi02 cover of this! An amazing deck that takes what people dislike about playing against dredge in other formats, and makes it more approachable, but still feels great to play.
Looking at the banlist quickly, I saw that the official wizards site has a mistake: sinkhole is on the list twice; guess they really don't want that card to be legal
Boggle is a game. Bogle is a creature type. Also, what's "monna"? Is it similar to mana?
Pestilence and tortexe not even decks anymore :(
Apparently. I played Pauper a bit years ago and was surprised to see mono black and Elves aren't really around anymore. Odd, seeing as how Oubliette.dec was the face of the format.
Yeah with so many relatively fast decks, mono-black’s tendency to do half their job for them (paying a bunch of life) works against it a lot.
RIP tortured existence
RIP Pestilence 😭
wait how else do you pronounce bogles?
Some people say "Bow-gulls" and "Jif". These people are somehow not in insane asylums.
@@AmmiO2 😂. "Jïf" is correct though.
Ok now I understand why drake is banned
Damn, Pauper Slivers is really bad enough to not get mentioned?
Low metagame percentage, not bad per se.
Amazing attempt but I think another way to approach this topic is using the "shell approach" akin to cedh
Affinity and Tron share some cards and generally "cheat" on mana for big things
Delver, Terror, Angler are spell-based using the yard as payoff
Faerie and Ninjas do whatever they are doing with those pesky dudes
Gates for... gate stuff...
Flicker cause Ephemerate is like the best White card ever lol
and then whichever decks that do not really fit the typical shells get their own lil segment
in a sense some of the more widely-used cards can be easily explained so the new guys could try to frankenstein some of the shells together to build something familiar but not the "stock" lists
since even some of the decks listed here have at least another possible variation to be equally effecting just with a slight focus in a sense
but good job showing some love to even the most obscure formats out there~
Me building a 100% proxy commander deck (even the 0.25 cents cards)
I've seen proxy basics.
@@AmmiO2 oh god
Poison and Mono-black control are also huge threats. Poison can kill you on turn 2 or 3. Mono-black control can make you regret playing everything that's not Burn.
As a mono black control player, yes.
I've played poison for weeks. I've never seen nor heard of a T2-3 kill. I don't understand how that would even work when the ramp doesn't even start coming online until the 2nd or 3rd turn, let alone a win.
