  • An insight into the delivery of a Dutch barge from Goole in Lincolnshire to Calais in France. The voyage was made in one stage and this was almost 300 miles from the start to finish.
The journey by barge alone was around 40 hours straight.
The weather window was carefully calculated and we had perfect conditions all the way down the North Sea and across the English Channel. It is truly amazing how much forward preparation goes into a transition of this type over the sea. The insured delivery means removing as many of the possible problems which could occur from the equation to give a safe passage for crew & vessel...
This means a happy barge owner and a contented customer.

Hi Alison. Long hours and all Dutch barges never steer in a straight line as they have flat bottoms and no keel so they “skate” from side to side and if left uncorrected they will just go around in circles... thanks for the comment and best regards Peter
