      She was gorgeous. I’ve learned through watching various CZcams equine channels that blind or partially blind horses can be wonderful horses if they are acclimated and you communicate with them well. I suspect if that horse was otherwise meeting all Shae’s requirements she would have to pass her up still, because so many potential buyers would hold that missing eye against her. Just my guess, I am not a horse professional. Shay already has several horses she’ll be keeping their whole lives. Best home for that girl would probably be someone who never sells her, who keeps her always. She was so incredibly beautiful.

      To help your dream become sweet I'd like to share the idea of avoiding auctions, buying instead from a private sale with those willing to supply vet history and even consider paying a large animal vet to look over the horse or two you narrow your search to. Paying a vet up front may save you money and heartache later.
      I say all that as I want your dream to become a bright shining future🥰🐴🥰

      @@AuntieSara459 idk, I’d personally rather ask my vet to come with me to an auction and pay him for it than use someone else’s vet. One on one sales aren’t always great because there’s usually less options and you might get stuck in the “I guess this one’s ok enough” mindset and the owners can be pretty pushy about it. At auctions, *good* auctions, they’ll do a lot of the same things that you’d see at one on one sales, but you get the added bonus of comparing to other horses. Only downside is you can’t always purchase the horse you want. Maybe I’m just biased cuz I’ve had a lot of bad home visits. One time a “sure footed, proud yet gentle” standardbred almost flipped over on me because he was barn sour. Do what’s best for you, in any case. And maybe look into rescue shelters to adopt from. They usually wont sugarcoat anything, and you still have decent options

    • @wren1114
      @wren1114 Před 4 měsíci +1

      It would be good if you could know the horse and seller longer, like Shae does from her own barn. Anyone near you you could take lessons from or get to know, know the horses? A good rescue place is a good idea, too. Auctions - well, they’re so fast besides too often it’s complicated, not great for someone who is new (except maybe someone w/beginners luck : ))

    I agree. Several horses just had very low fetlocks. I actually cringed at one in the sale ring. Nothing really caught my eye this auction beside some of the other animals. The goats, cows, and that baby pig stole the show.

    • @kryptonarie6367
      @kryptonarie6367 Před 4 měsíci +9

      Me too, there's definitely an issue with both his/her back pasterns/feet. Before watching Shae's videos, I may not have even noticed how pronounced that horse's fetlocks were dropping, especially if he/she seemed to otherwise be moving okay. I've loved horses my entire life, but being visually impaired and unable to drive, it made horse ownership too difficult, so I live vicariously through people like Shae. In my next life I'll have horses, and all the horse knowledge I aquire in this life, it'll be like instinctual. 😄

  • @jenz4524
    @jenz4524 Před 4 měsíci +4

    Usually when you post auction videos, I see horses I like, but none at this one. Many were under muscled, dropped pasterns, dropped fetlocks, conformation issues, no topline (with regular work that can be achieved) and countless other issues. Also, who taught some of these people to ride? Yanking on the mouths, constantly spurring, kicking, and riding the Hunchback of Nortre Dame. I know I am being critical, but holy horses, when you ride correctly, you can get the horse to be an excellent partner.
    Now the goats, I would take a few home, lol. I have a soft spot for them now.

    There are a lot more 'interesting' colours in US horses (and cattle, too, from what I've seen!) at auctions than here in the UK - but not as many distinctive types/breeds of ponies, compared to here in England. But probably also varies with type and region of auction.

      With that banner and that coat he seemed like a former showhorse. My bet was he got an infection or something and after he lost his eye he either was too nervous for show or no longer desirable. I had a blind horse and that was the case for him anyway. Pretty and good looking horses like that don’t end up at auction unless they have some underlying thing. Of course, that underlying “thing” could be the owners just didn’t want to deal with it

    I liked that first Appaloosa you saw first. Very pretty. The first horse you pet when you entered the barn was a grey horse reasonable tall, 15 hands, maybe, reminded me of Belle. I m not yet but experienced about giving good insights yet, and this video clip of you guys was moving fast. I was trying to just take in the vicarious experience of your experience. I agree with the comment that the horse you checked with only 90 days training was an immediate response in my mind, “No don’t “. You have enough green horses right now. More or less 5. Ezzy, Ariel, Belle, then not yet out of serious in saddle training, Mushu and Lumiere. That is a lot of work for one person to do everything day, plus The other 5 horses needs for general fitness cares. Now, another little piggy, I agreed with Kyle. I would love to see a video soon, on the indoor cat “Arista”? Kyle’s baby choice. I would love to see how big she is getting and likewise Penelope’s antics. Stay well, Dear Ones. Thx for this update, always loved by me! 🥰👍❤️❤️

My friend told me once to pay attention when an animal can’t get enough of you, they sense a connection.

  • @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx
    @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx Před 4 měsíci +9

    I have been watching some rescue videos, and it never fails that some of the worst cases are horses that have gone to auctions and failed to sell, then were sent to a lot somewhere (or maybe stayed on the auction grounds?) to wait until the next auction, but were fed little to nothing between auctions, which put them in decline, and further increased their risk of not selling - and not getting fed or watered - so they literally begin the process of starving to death at the auctions. You went to at least one auction where all the horses had lots of hay in front of them to eat. I wish it could be that way at every auction, and it wouldn't cost the seller/buyers that much more on the cost of a horse to have it happen. I haven't been to an auction in several decades, so don't know exactly what sort of regulations could be put in practice to protect the horses that go through them, but just wanted to put people on the alert that do go to auctions that this is happening, and to please watch for the skinny horses that are there because they may not be skinny due to illness or age, but due to being starved as a result of going through the auctions. 😞

I have learned a lot from watching horse rescues, but if I were looking for a horse I would take someone more knowledgeable with me.

    • @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx
      @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx Před 4 měsíci +10

      I like that you are aware of your size, and would want to find a horse that is big and solid enough to carry you without added strain. People come in all shapes and sizes, as do horses, so it is nice when the fit is right because their horse will be much sounder and healthier for it. Just at this auction alone, there were too many people going through the sale ring on mounts too small for them - and I am including some of the children on ponies.

    • @hunterx700
      @hunterx700 Před 4 měsíci +4

      if you’re able to find a big draft/riding horse cross, that will likely be your best bet. drafts are built to pull carts, not for riding, and can be more vulnerable riding related health issues than a riding horse. crossing them with a riding breed retains a lot of that bulk while giving them a much better frame to support a rider throughout their life

      Low heel…run down and puts too much stress on the DDFT of the horse. Always always be cautious in a draft purchase for low heels as many are also used for carts/wagons and the added stress on the joint and ligaments/tendons to compensate for the loss in hoof angle.

    You make me want to go riding again! I was a beginner as a teen and life happened. I feel like im way too old at 40 to pick it up again. So I will just live vicariously through your videos ❤. I really liked that stocky horse towards the end that sold for $4k. The one roan reaching out to you as you passed made me feel like he/she had a connection with you.

      You're never too old to pick up riding. I purchased my first horse 12 years ago when I was 45-ish. If you can't own a horse now, take up riding lessons to get your horse fix. It's not as rewarding, but it will increase your confidence...

      I am 38 and I started to volunteer at a barn with 16 horses and I get my fix that way. I learn sooo much because they have every type of horse to work with. I also liked the horse at the end that sold for 4000. I hope to have the horse life that I always dreamed of in my later in life years.

      40 is not old! You can pick it up again if you want to. You can find the situation that you’re comfortable with. It’s good to dream. If I were to return to riding at 54 (unlikely due to physical health issues, financial matters, and a horse Allergy) i’d be so excited to learn all the stretches for before, and after riding. I remember so distinctly the agony I would be in for days after my lessons. I wish it had occurred to someone that maybe some stretching would help me! We were often riding in the dead of winter too. probably was dehydrated, etc. It’s just nice to think we can go back as adults with what we’ve learned and maybe do it more pleasant way! I haven’t given up entirely on horses. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

    I love appaloosas. I had a few as a kid, and the spots are so fun. I paint with watercolor, and I have taken to calling some of the spots 'watercolor spots' because they look just like it would if I put a drop of paint in the middle of a wet circle. They have a dark spot in the middle, and then diffuse color out to the edges. I think those spots are so cool. 😍I have had never seen an app/paint cross until the one in this video. That was kinda wild. I also enjoyed the energy of the one little pony in the stall with the cute appy that you started to approach, but the pony went in to guard its friend from you. That pony had a lot of Mushu guarding Gaston from Lumi energy. In this case, however, you were Lumi. 😆

    • @fleetskipper1810
      @fleetskipper1810 Před 4 měsíci +2

      That’s a good description of those spots with a halo around them. They do look like watercolor paint dropped on art paper, then the water spreads a little.

      😂 those spots look like something in Petrie dish to me. I wish I could see a bleeding watercolor spot instead.
      I grew up in the Palouse where probably more than half the horses are appaloosa, so I've seen a lot of them, and I have to say my favorites are the classic dark horses with big blankets and sharp, black spots.

    • @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx
      @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx Před 4 měsíci

      @@T3rsky Nooo, no petrie dish nastiness! 😆You really need to play with watercolors some. I think you'd have a deeper appreciation of those gorgeous haloed spots. ❤ Solid spots are pretty, too. Mine had blankets on their rumps, and my black app had some big spots, but his mother's, despite being a blanket, had more the effect of snowflakes.🥰 I envy you, however, to have grown up in a place where there were so many appaloosas. You certainly had very pretty 4-legged scenery to enjoy. 😍

    • @T3rsky
      @T3rsky Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx, I have plenty of experience with watercolors. When I was earning my BFA in Painting and Drawing I got the only A in my beginning water color class. Not a fan though. To me, nothing beats hand-ground oil paints made with Grumtine and damar varnish. Not only do they dry nearly as fast as acrylics, but you can change your mind as many times as you like, no mistake lasts, and the ending finish of your painting glows like nothing else, but your paint smells like perfume.
      Isn't nice that we all have different tastes? Otherwise there would be so much less variety in life. We'd all desire, consume, and produce the same things. It is perfectly fine that your watercolor spots look like a scattering of colonies in a Petrie dish to me and I find the weight, workability, and opacity of oil paint far, far more satisfying than the tidiness and translucence and portability of watercolors.
      And it's perfectly fine that you like the spots that look like yuck on a Petrie dish to me. It's all good

    Forgive if I am out of line here but when you look at horses teeth, please use disposable gloves with a fresh pair for each horse. The potenial for spreating a disease is very likely. Unfortunately because of this, she gave my horse equine flu passed from her mare to my gelding via mouth. Just a thought....

    It's so interesting seeing how you examine the horses at an auction and do such a quick evaluation. I would never have had the courage to do that. Many years ago I had a friend that bought a few horses and we always went to private buyers and spent a long time checking out the horses. Any she wanted to buy were vetted first. We never thought about auctions at all, but now I see that there is a whole other way to "horse shop." By the way, her method of the private sales didn't always turn out great. I guess it is always somewhat of a risk when horse shopping.
