According to some witnesses, the driver launched the truck too far and too hard. That is what caused the frame failure. Driver error. Full send. People were shocked the truck not only finished the race, but finished first in its class. Looks like Chevy learned and reinforced the frame. Good learning experience. Now, let’s see if Toyota, Nissan and Ford enter the fray using these mostly stock class. Is there the willpower to challenge Chevrolet? Let the manufacturer desert race truck wars begin.

The engineers and head office wanted the driver to challenge the trucks integrity by pushing it to the extreme to find any other design flaws that contribute to week points on all parts including the frame. It was the drivers intention to make that jump as ordered at a higher velocity.

Kudos to GM/Chevy for not trying to hide the embarrassment of that frame and body damage from the race. There were similarly equipped Raptors that did not finish. Heck when you take a large jump weighing 5500+ pounds and land awkwardly it's bound to happen. Look at how many Raptors have bent their frames unloaded and just taking small jumps and bending the chassis. Even the new TRX from Ram has had a few broken frames. People think because these trucks are very capable of taking a jump in these trims that there wont be any consequences if they do it a bunch of times. The truck performed awesomely in that event and still finished even with the bent frame. considering how many trucks never even finished I'd say it's a great accomplishment.

They won’t change it. You only bend the frame like that after maxing out the suspension. Once you max the bump stops, and still have energy to dump, it’s going somewhere. If the frame was stronger, then you’re maybe blowing out a tire, maybe destroying the axle, and likely losing control of the truck. No matter how strong they make the frame, there will be a limit. This isn’t a fully built trophy truck. They exceeded the limits that day. There were several people who bent second gen Colorado frames, and I can tell you from my experience with my 17, they were sending it hard!

Since 2015, people have been cutting the fenders of the Colorado to put on 33-35 inch tires. It only took GM several years to realize that people want bigger tires on a 4x4. The biggest problem with putting bigger tires on was that the front tires were too close to the cab. The front axle location made it harder to increase the tire size because you would have to cut into the cab to get enough wheel clearance. Moving the front axle forward to give the tires more clearance was a necessary design change. If this is GMs most extreme 4x4, I hope they installed longer differential and transmission breather tubes for driving through deep water. I also hope they designed a more free-flowing intake and exhaust that will increase fuel economy and horsepower. For years, aftermarket companies have been able to build compact high flow mufflers and catalytic converters, but these car manufacturers build mufflers the size of a gas tank.

Big deal. That’s minimal and just something to complain about. If you’re really that off roader you’ll use aux switches anyways.

      @Garlander Před rokem

The light switch is always on screen, its on the upper left side. You dont have to go into the menu to find it. It's a one button toggle switch

Imagine if the headlights circuit fails thats an entire $2300-♾️ cost to replace. An actual light switch you can rotate should not ve an option. To much touchy feely stuff for my liking. Imagine being hacked as well and sumbody putting ransom ware that you have to pay a pretty penny to release back to you. I have uconnect and it was demonstrated on a Jeep years ago that major system funtions like steering, throttle, and brakes were easily compromised

Has GM said anything about the hand hold for the drivers side? All those guys testing the more lifted colorados must have realized it would be very useful.

Not moving the shocks outboard of the frame of their 1500 and now 2500 ZR2 is GMs massive failure. The should be outboard to begin with, it just puts the rear end to have better stability.

HUGE RED FLAG @ 12:34!!! The tow rating is reduced (by 1,700 lb) because of the FRONT GRILL AREA and front skid plates? The front grill area indicates that this is a cooling problem. Usually, the tow rating of the offroad version is reduced by GVWR, suspension, or brakes/tire diameter. This is really bad news, I will have to reconsider my order/deposit on a ZR2.
I have a truck that has its tow rating limited due to cooling and it is terrible. The rating standard is based on uncomfortably slow speeds, per SAE J2807 "truck-and-trailer combination must be able to drive at 40 mph". So I am towing along at 65 (1,500 lb below max weight) when the temp starts to rise and the computer derates the power. At 40 mph I have had 18-wheelers pass me. It is very uncomfortable and unsafe.

Don't buy a midsize truck if you plan on towing often just get a real truck

I sooooooooooooooo want Toyota to build a $35k Maverick competitor that is hybrid and 4x4 with all the off-road tech of the Tacoma. THAT is what people are craving. Even in a household with two people earning six figures nobody wants to spend $50k+ on a vehicle that is meant to drive off road. It just doesn't make sense. These trucks are mainly purchased by apartment dwelling 20 somethings who save nothing and spent the bulk of their earnings on toys. That's not a big population of people.

Exactly what's wrong with a simple button!?!
What's wrong with a key to start it!!!
What's wrong with a mechanical emergency brake cable! No two electric motors to fail?!!!!
What's wrong with a shift cable and not a shift motor for the transmission?!??
I see it's got the four-wheel-drive knob like Chrysler!!
Looks just like a Toyota hummm!
    And STILL no V8!!
    What happened to GM?!??!???
