I think Gladion was very different from the other "serious rivals" like blue and silver. For example, unlike blue and silver, he acknowledged that you were strong and was more level headed. He knew you weren't weak. Another thing, he acted a little more human like instead of just an outright jerk. He apologized when he knew he was wrong and cared a lot for both Cosmog and his sister Lillie. That and his backstory with type: null and Lusamine being his mother, and him being a decent challenge to fight and had a cool team with Pokemon that mostly evolving from friendship, I think that makes him one of the best if not the best rival to date in my opinion

It really shows how far he's come as a trainer. He's not even called Team Skull Gladion anymore. At that point, the game calls him Pokemon Trainer Gladion. He's really changed since you've first met him.
Gladion is one of my favourite rivals alongside Blue, N and Cheren. He reminds me of a combination of SIlver with a touch of Hugh(I can imagine if they have a little diss battle between Hugh and Gladion). He actually acknowledges your strength and actually takes care of his pokemon since they evolve from high friendship. His smile at the end made me melt and made me smile too
One my first battle with Gladion, my Dartrix was about level twenty three. Also, with my battle with UB-01 Symbiont, not only did my Dartrix evolve before hand, my Snorlax knew Giga Impact, so I almost one-shot it. I REALLY unintentionally over prep for these battles.
The final Gladion fight... it's so damn GOOD! I especially love how his team has a Speed motif. I mean, how much faster can you get with Crobat and Weavile? And a Lucario with *Extreme Speed*? And how Type: Null gains Speed upon evolution?
Kickass theme and his team is pretty neat. But I simply can't get over his edgy appearance and those ridiculous poses. Everyone goes through puperty, Gladion, you don't have to make such a big deal out of it.
