    I had a 2008 VW Passat with this exact engine and a manual gearbox (Very rare combo) and you're completely right with the PCV issue. However, it was a quick fix. Very underrated engine.

    Cracking cars and capable with few upgrades but if I could back I would have got a front wheel drive mk2 audi tt with the tfsi engine. Basically the same car underneath but with a few little extras on top that I've spent a fair bit of money equipping my golf with and typically cheaper than the golf gti.

    Loved mine, was bulletproof well built and quick enough, check cam follower in the HPFP has been changed (£40) but can cause chaos if it fails, will definitely buy another

    Watched both her videos on the GTI mk5 and the Type R FN2 to help me make a decision on which one to buy. Thanks for the great reviews. You made it a very easy decision in the end. The interior, wheels and body roll on the Golf would be very hard to live with. FN2 could have come out of the factory today.

    Really that particular Gen of GTi in Canada had a wide range of issues,and is not considered a great buy especially this late in life.
    As a previous owner of 3 different generations the A1 Gti was still to me the best in as far as reliability goes and a blast to drive because of its weight to power,,and man VW parts are crazy expensive.

    • @AlexTaylorGTI
      @AlexTaylorGTI Před 4 lety +1

      Had my Mk5 1.6 for two years, recently gotten a Mk5 GTI and it's a massive difference, not only do you get the extra power but the entire car just looks and feels so much better, from the lovely honeycomb grills to the flat bottom steering wheel it's just much nicer to look at and drive.

    • @ML2193
      @ML2193 Před 4 lety

      @@AlexTaylorGTI do you mind me asking how much you paid for your GTI and what the mileage was?

    • @AlexTaylorGTI
      @AlexTaylorGTI Před 4 lety +2

      @@ML2193 I overpaid, I am 100% aware of that however, I paid for convenience the car was the closest one in the UK for sale at a dealer and met most of the spec I wanted e.g. Tornado Red, Heated leather seats, 18" diamond cut Monza's which hadn't got even the smallest amount of curbing and the bits it didn't have could easily be retrofitted e.g. Cruise and MFSW. I paid £4995 the car had 101,350 miles when I purchased it it had been serviced every year with proof, had never failed MOTs for major things only headlamps being out of alignment. And it has been really looked after by the previous owner who'd owned the car from 2011-19. I'm not going to lie there are a few things like the PCV valve, DV valve and cam follower had never been changed but they've now been done and are relatively inexpensive and the typical rusty wing is soon to be replaced.
