- The Locock Gambit is a line in the Philidor Defense that starts with the moves 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 Nf6 4.Ng5 h6 5.Nxf7.
If you like to start out with e5 and are met with e5 and d6 from your opponent, this would be a great options.

The more I play the less I know.
It's the dunning Kruger effect
Scott Mulligan I think it is the opposite of DK Effect. The person who knows little thinks he knows a lot but those who know a good deal don't become complacent.
@@suhailnkhan2055 but this person, the more he plays he is becoming more and more at a stage of realisation that he knows less and less. It's the stage of the graph where confidence of person drops due to increased knowledge, due to now having an understanding of how little he knows
@@iamthere135 I don't think one can infer anything about the confidence level of the person from the comment he has made.He could just be modest and perhaps in awe of the fact that the deeper one digs into the game, the lesser one seems to be knowing.
@@suhailnkhan2055 which is precisely the DK effect :/ thanks for enforcing what I was saying
He sounds like a pilot on a commercial airline, reassuring his passengers lol
Locock Gambit is popularly countered among pros by the Hicock Defense.
I don't know man, I like to experiment with the BalSak defense.
hahahaha
I've seen some pretty impressive Hicock defenses, most notably would probably be the Ligma variation, but that's not to discount the excitement that can be found in the Sugma variation (I usually play the latter just because I'm more familiar with it)
@@TwentySeventhLetter I've gotta get around to learning the sugma variation, too many times I've fallen victim to lack of knowledge in the locock gambit: declined hicock sugma variation
Thank you very much Kevin!! I love your videos

Great video! I’m gonna try this in my games
3:12 mark after Qxc8 black has Bb4+ after white deals with the check black can capture the queen on c8 with the rook on h8.
That's so crazy line!
Man I randomly started playing this Gambit because I saw the move and it seems aggressive and fun, nice to learn a bit more about it
Same...I play on lichess , ashcraft is my tag if ya wanna practice
Holy shit... This seems like so much fun
Perfect explanation, ty for your great work!
What a fun line!
Rare gambit to play
Please make a video about The Kopec System against The Sicilian Defense
Yea, in a perfect world.
Pretty good

5...dxe5 and 6. Qxd8 can be met with 6...Bb4+, attacking the queen with the rook.
John Thomas after c6.....rxq then pub, white is still clearly wnning
@@davidclynes2337 oh yeah I get it, I was just saying that the Queen was not "for free". White should still be fine of course. :)
thanks
21st. Also can you do another high depth video on french defense?
Hi Kevin i was going through this video today . The main idea of playing d6 is black wants to pin the knight. Once d6 is played after that black plays BG4.i am not able to find any strong continuation for white after this move .please check if i m missing anything whenever u get time.
I need you to help me to complete play chase moves I play real chase on app store so I want to know better status from you
Yes
Great video..👏🏼

0 :32 what if black capture pawn?????
Spicy gambits LOL
Qc8 is an error. Bb4+ loses the Queen on c8.

What about refuting this gambit?
8:00 and black also can play here Qb2
This is kevin trum the chesswebsite
I’ve been trying to play on Gameknot but find my chess abilities have waned over the past many years. I try to play against the computer and lose miserably every time, even when I switch sides in the middle of the game I think I’ve only won once. Bottom line, I suck but I do have fun making myself miserable losing game after game. 😜
3:12 White’s queen is lost as well with bishop to c4+. Black loses a bishop, but took takes white’s queen. Still ugly for black though
You can put your bishop at d2 so if they take your queen you can take there bishop.
Jose Franco But then black would take the bishop with check and take the queen afterwards.
@@firippumartinezu1782 yea but you can also put your pawn to c3 saving your bishop
After Bc4+ c3 Bxc3+ NxBc3 RxQc8 and white is up a minor piece with a passed pawn in the center. It should be an easy win.
Jose Franco Yeah. I was just showing how blocking with the bishop isn't ideal after check. Blocking with the pawn is better. :)
they can take on e5 as after queen takes on d8 they can do a check on the king with the dark square bishop and open up a discovered attack on whites queen
thou u win back the piece and black losing castling rights
if queen blocks the check
3:11 white would lose the queen after bb4
Yes, but white will be up a piece and a pawn and the white king is exposed so it's completely winning for white
didn't he miss mate with queen f7 at 3:05?
You can block with the dark squared bishop.
The opponent can block the check with his dark squared bishop.
Your right I didn't see that thx
6:43 Qa5?
Quinton de Kock
WHAT TO DO IF HE B TO B4 CHECK OUR QUEEN IS GONE
3:13 not so good position, because bishop b4+ is discovered check and queen is qone
Bb4+ c3 Rxc8 cxb4 and all of a sudden white has a free bishop.
@@RandomPerson-th1vl Bb4+ c3, after which theres no rook capture, only a queen capture. But, if Qxc8, then Qf7#
Yeah he made a mistake... instead of write recapturing the queen on d8, should've played qf7 mate
I like pinning down the queen with Knights while the bishops chase the king around the castle,
3:03 isn’t qf7 mate?
No. Bg7 would block mate.
@@chesswebsite thank you. How did I miss that. Also, love your videos, Kevin!
in start if he take ur pawn u take queen he check u with bishop b4 and take ur queen u loose a peice
If you grab blacks Queen when he recaptures couldn't you just check with the Bishop and the capture with the rook on H8
Sink down I thought about it,- the response to that will be c3 and white is up a piece
@@MolchumanGaming Even after sacking the Knight? Wouldnt white be up a pawn?
he mentions it at the near the end of the video you just retreat your Queen to d2 and recapture the bishop with the Knight and you are still up on material
2:56 Why not just put Queen to F7 for mate?? ; Why take the bishop instead?
the bishop can block the check
@@KralleZ7 oh i see. didnt see the bishop there thnx for pointing out!
At 2:55 isn’t Qf7 mate?
They can block with their bishop.
Why not qd5+ instead of qf3+ at 7:16
Please put a time stamp so we can see exactly what position you're talking about.
@@firippumartinezu1782 there, edited
For me, I'd prefer to follow up with bishop checking the King before taking the knight.
At 12.02 Qxd5 is best
At 2:56 if the queen moved to F7 it wouldve been checkmate already
negative....bishop blocks
3:12
bb4+ wins the white queen?
yes... still, white will be up a piece and a pawn after the pawn or bishop blocks the check
R double E, S, E, S
You lost your Queen at 3:13. Next move by black is Bishop to b4 check
yes, but white will be up in material
2:54 you know queen can just go to f7 then its checkmate
lol who checks the black king
Owen David took me a while to understand what he means as well, he meant after f5 and pawn on g6 move
Bishop g7
What if after Ng5 he does exd4?
How do white proceed?
Kevin I want to become gm..my rating 1300 on chess dotcom.teach me
1:23 6. dxe5 Ng4 it's better
BOYS I FOUND ITT
R u playing chess. Com
sorry at 2.15 Qxd5
At 314 bishop b4 check then h8 took takes the white queen.
after Bb4+ c3, black cannot capture the queen because Qf7 is mate
Wyatt Crider how can that be?
Wyatt Crider Bishop b4 check pawn c3, took takes queen. White then takes bishop.
@@Logico75345 sorry, i was looking a little earlier in the vid. i was referring to the position at 3:01
Nobody:
Nobody ever:
Absolutely nobody in the world:
(That's right. I put nothing at the end because I'm so tired of this joke popping up on every CZcams video I watch. It isn't funny anymore CZcams. Please stop.)
Kevin at 4:07 why cant we go for queen g4 then f5 is mate in 2 and if he blocks we his queen we can simply capture with our bishop
There will be no mate in 2. The bishop will block the check. That line isn't good for white because of the unsafe queen position and because of the hanging pawn from white. He has to push or defend the pawn and still watching out for his queen safety. White will be overloaded with the hanging pawn, saving the queen and not losing on tempo.
2:57 qf7#
Kevin likes to watch his opponents suffer.
But, for real, black can block with the bishop.
D-c5, Qd8, Bb4+,Rd8, the queen is lost i guess.. .. 🤔
So the conclusion of that move order is dumb af.
You don't need to say pan everytime. The name of the square will suffice. For example e4.. everyone knows that means the pawn and not the queen. There's no need to say pawn in most situations such as taking. You dont say pawn takes on e5 you say d takes on e5
Notation and explanation are not the same world. It's fine like that honestly.
Saying pawn is fine.
Dirty gambit
Mo
At 3:12 Bishop to b4 check.. Rook takes queen.. Did someone else notice that.. Still white has advantage though
Other opponent did not play like you mebe white los his knight
IF magnus doesn't locock gambit then don't use it.
IF Magnus jumps off a bridge you should too
