Sesame Street is for kids.
Muppets Show is for families.
This video shows the difference.
Yeah, Sesame Street has the occasional reference to something for the parents that are stuck watching it. The Muppet show has bits specifically for the parents.
Happytime murders is for grown-ups.
Sesame Street is targeted towards kids while The Muppet Show was targeted towards adults makes perfect sense

It wasn't the first time.
Curvaceous and tantalizing! 😉💋

The spider puppet is absolutely amazing. It's extremely underrated.
Lucky Graham Fletcher
I am so glad I didn't see that as a child. I'd be terrified for life. It's such a well done puppet
Wait a minute.. thats not a real spider! I saw the wires... 😕
It was more of a costume, really.
@@StupidEarthlings You were supposed to; that's webbing.
Celebrities back then practically begged to get on this show along with "Laugh In" and "The Carol Burnett Show". Their ratings were that high.
Guessing Raquel Welch didn't have to beg.
Same with The Hollywood Squares
And News Night.
Man, The Muppet Show was dirtier than I expected. That makes me enjoy it more to be honest.
Lol
It's called acting. The Muppet characters were originally envisaged as actors playing parts, occasionally breaking character in the movies to comic effect. Disney seem to be oblivious to this nuance.
"I'm on Sesame Street!"
@@andrewsmart4491 What are you talking about, the Disney movies have the most 4th wall breaks, even if not as obvious, and they also refer to the muppets as actors in movies in interviews
I can’t understand the obsession of some Americans with cleanliness.
They’re missing out on so much.
I knew Raquel Welch was talented but I didn't know she could sing and dance so well. She is a triple threat!
Btw the songs she is singing is baby it’s me by Diana Ross
Yes, the singing, that's totally what I was focusing on.
In those heels.
@@Dennis-nc3vw She sang?
Her legs and the way she moved in that dance stunned me 😂 so sexy
Jim Henson is so good.
What he brought into this world can't be calculated in views and clicks. He changed the game forever.
"Well, you see, there is this pig in my life. If I talk about other women, it's dangerous to my health. She'd break me on two, you know."
"Are you living together, are you sleeping with Miss Piggy? Can we just get right down to it? Are you sleeping with Miss Piggy?"
"Erm-"
"I wanna know."
(Arguing)
"Hey, you can't go on television talking about- I-I'm on Sesame Street for goodness sake!"
Embarrassed Fozzie Bear is the cutest thing in the world omg.
Jim Henson was a genius. I loved this show as a kid. Now I realize that I love it even more as an adult. Can’t seem to find it anywhere in its entirety though - none of the streaming platforms carry it.
I love it when kids shows can be enjoyed by adults as well
I think it's on disney +
@@felixleroy7660 Yep.
You could always find it on DVD
I watched all of the Muppet show on Disney+ and it didn't show several episodes I distinctly remember from childhoom
The original Muppet show was during the 60s and 70s. It was headed more towards young adults. Making points about politics and issues of that time with satire with puppets.
The Muppet Show was never on in the 60s.
This was a special filmed as a pilot (one of two), as in, was literally the first episode of the show.
It started in 1976

Jim Henson’s genius was making TV shows that kids and their parents could love and appreciate equally. It wasn’t for one or the other, it was for both.

The Muppet show was never for kids lol... All these younger people think "Hey it's puppets, it's for kids".
Yeah, it's for the whole family, not just kids. There are stuff that the kids don't get but the adults do. Just like good animated movies, they're not just aimed for kids but having stuff for adults to enjoy which goes over the kids heads.
7:55 what episode is this
It's the episode with the Sex goddess, Raquel Welch... Don't remember the exact date and year.
Philip Thomas thanks
Tedros Fret Sure thing. I watched most of the Muppet Show back in the late 70's up until about 1979, then I was starting to outgrow the show becoming a teenager and all. lol
The "Fever" routine is one of my favourite performances of the number, ever. Rita Moreno kills it... and I thought no-one could top Peggy Lee.
4:25 I like it how Fozzie gets embarrassed
Not as embarrassed as the guy with his hand up Fozzie’s rear, virtually clutching Raquel’s left tit.
it's cute!
18:17 How has Kermit saying "sex" not become a meme?
That's right kiddos, it was originally for adults. Even my guitar teacher told me :L
Shiiit such fun
False it’s for the family for everyone kids, teens, and adults can enjoy it
No, it was for families.
4:51
Imagine being Kermit and thinking: *that lucky son of a bitch*
I remember her as the lady that screamed “HEY YOU GUYS!” from The Electric Company
Did Gonzo just have the "sex with the secretary in the office" kink with Camilla
"Is that true? Does the press give frogs a bad name?"
"That is a racial slur. That whole thing about warts and all."
"In other words, of I touched you, I would not get a wart? Then what's this in my hand?"
"What?"
"It's a joke. If I kissed you, would you turn into a prince?"
"We could try it."
And then Kermit's Swamp Years goes and uses "warts and all" in its tagline.
I remember looking forward to the newest episode once a week in the late 70s, I was 8 years old in 1980, and this was the highlight of my week.
Our whole family would be watching, my parents commenting on how good the guest stars were doing, whilst my sister and I sat too close to our 20 inch luxury color TV.
My Dad loved Raquel...I used to sit up and watch midnight horror shows with him, and when Vincent Price guest starred, it was the best episode ever...I even got a Muppets book for my 12th birthday, it had all the best season one drawn with the script. I still have it, 1984 yellow hand drawn Muppet book.
Damn, us Gen Xers had it good.
I had a teacher in high school who always said "Seegareets and whiskey and wild wild women" when referring to any debauchery. We had no idea what he was talking about 🤦😂
Sam's bit about nudity is my favourite from the entire series :D
Completely..... Naked.... 😮😮😮
Absolutely classic bit!
The "Fever" bit with Rita M. and Animal, is classic. Love that one! ❤👍👍❤
Even after all these years this is still hilarious.
6:10......did she say sexsational?......thats now my new favourite word

Jim was a fucking genius and I wish they’d do another adult special, if Disney didn’t own the Jim Henson company it’d be so fucking cool to see them make a muppets special for adult swim or something.
I believe someone tried it, they called it "The Happy Time Murders". It didn't do very well, if I remember correctly.
Jim Henson was able to toe the line that they couldn't; they were too immature for adult humor. XP
@@SuperSenshi The issue is that they went too far. The original Muppet shows were more measured, not grotesque or obscene. It was more elegant.

I wanna see The Big Lebowski remade with Muppets. The Great Gonzo
That stupid over protective mothers group that cancelled The Muppets needs to see this video. Muppets were never targeted to children.
Yes they cancelled the tv show called the muppets due to their stupid complaints
Advocacy groups don't have any power to cancel shows, particularly not loons like the so-called "Million Moms". I'm not sure of any "moral outrage" movements that haven't had positive effect on their target (witness "The Last Temptation of Christ" - which would've been forgotten without the protests. "The Muppet Show" ended on the highest Nielsen ratings ever according to Jim Henson's desire to stop the show at its peak. The recent ABC show "The Muppets" ended on low ratings and indifferent reviews.
No. Jim Henson ended it because 5 years was enough and so they could end whilst it was still in good standing.
The adult Muppet show was the best. I was so pissed when they did that and caused it to go off air. Sucks!
@@RobTheEnby I think he meant the newer show that was done in the style of "The office"

15:14 NO WAY THAT JIM HENSON ACTUALLY SAID IT
I'll bet this is the only known show in the entire history of TV that that's actually rated "TV-G" (according to the TV Guide from a 2000 rerun) that has the naughty S word directly in the title...

sam’s spiel about nudity had me in stitches
Fozzie might be asking himself "Do I still wanna remain a furry virgin?" 5:20
I really miss quality shows like this. There's not a "celebrity" today who could demonstrate half the talent as those who used to appear on The Muppets.
juvenoia is dangerous
I agree with you to an extent. But there are a few exceptions. Mariska Hargitay for one.
@@MsYounghippie The 'Law & Order' chick? Yeah fair enough as an actor. I've never seen her sing or dance otherwise. People on the Muppets could often sing, dance or act (sometimes badly!)
Mariska would be funny since she has good comedic timing.
I love the Muppet show but you are absolutely ignorant if you think nobody is as talented as this today. There’s no other word for it, just ignorance
damn. I cant believe that the muppet show put a stop to violence in movies and sex on tv
Man, where are those good old-fashioned values on which we used to rely?
Luckily there is a family guy
Kermit acually said sexiest
If only the show stayed like this..
Hey Disney, you paying attention? Get back to the real Muppet spirit that made them great. Not just kid's stuff and overly sweet.
William Rickman did you watch the ABC show
Or how about sell The Muppets to someone else and not be associated with all that Disney crap.
Actually they did "The Muppets"2015, but parents complain about it.

Kermit went from teaching the abcs to sharing his love life to everyone
The puppeteer for Fozzy had the best job that day. Spent that whole song in her lap!
That would be Frank Oz... same guy that did Miss Piggy, Sam the Eagle, & Animal then later became Yoda.
The Joan Rivers part made me laugh way too hard

She was famous for making people blush but not too many turned the tables on her like that.

All these comments are saying muppets arent for kids... Muppets are for every age, every demographic, every one!
The Joan Rivers interview slayed me. 😂
15:14 O_O adding that to the list of things I wouldn’t have ever thought I would see/hear outside of a parody
TODAY'S ENTERTAINMENT DON'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO THIS LOVED THIS SHOW
the muppet show may not be 4 kids but sesame street is. cartoons are NOT 4 kids. if betty boop bent over you could see EVERYTHING except London

Some of it is all coming back to my memory, and some seems new. Loving this lol :P
also RIP to Raquel Welch! ICONIC!
Thanks for putting all of these clips into one funny video! It had me laughing so hard. 😂😂😂
That spider really wanted some
Rita Moreno singing Fever with Animal is one of my favourite Muppet moments
15:14 that’s what he said
The level of artistry... Song, dance, musicianship, singing, puppetry, humor, social commentary.. Nothing approaches this. Today's mainstream media would not allow this level of complexity. Lament.
gotta love the muppets i soo miss this show
The Muppet show was hilarious. I remember one show where Roger Moore was a guest host and was being attacked by Muppet's dressed as spies; I couldn't stop laughing, there were Muppets dressed in black flying all over the place. I tried to find a clip, but couldn't.
I grew up watching the Jim Henson's Muppet Show, it was awesome.
Jerry Nelson performs Strangepork during the Peter Seller episode's final number, but he sounds different than usual.
I know that I'm supposed to focus on the hot lady but my mind is fixated on how impressive the spider muppet is.
FRRRRRR THAT LOOKED SOO COOOOOL
If you complain about the Muppet show you shouldn't be interacting with the adult world.
Hell, they shouldn't be interacting with children either! Can we just send them to a far-off island or something?
The thing about the Muppets is and I know I'm not the first or last person who's probably already commented this but it was never a children show I don't remember if it had a Primetime slot but it was never really a children's show. But you can't fault it for being interpreted as one it was clearly made as a pg-rated piece of media that was geared towards as general an audience as possible you could watch it at any age it's just one of those multi-faceted demographic pieces that's too wholesome to not be made with children in mind but also so much of its humor and style drawers from a classic collection of influences that grown-ups will appreciate for multiple reasons and yes a little bit of edgier jokes here and there helps as well
9:43 - This was easily one of my all-time favorite Animal bits.
9:38 Darn it I'm getting memories of Spider-Man 3
And that’s a bad thing ?
Although I'm only 13 even as a young toddler I always preferred The Muppets over sesame street, due to spending a good chunk of my life in an environment where I was forced to grow up faster than I really should have I grew out of shows like sesame Street rather quickly, and shows like this one grabbed my attention, it's always funny to see adult jokes in kids shows.
“a young toddler”
The 70's were wEird.
20:48 Pretty damn brave to stand against the nicotine lobby back in the day.
I grew up on the Muppet Show. Sesame Street was there too, but I never got into the characters other than the Count and Oscar- occasional Cookie Monster. (Yup, Bugs Bunny girl here, 😉😂). I actually had to look up some of these as I couldn’t totally remember Raquel and Fozzy, I KNEW that had to be Rita signing Fever, and yet: thanks so much for the Ruth Buzzi clip. We weren’t a Laugh In house when I was young, but I could tell straight off (read the wiki, she is Awesome!). Thanks so much for the memories. Now I really want to find the Eagle clip clip re: nudity and post that as a “yeah, book banners, this is pretty much what you sound like” 😂😂❤️
Animalstruggling, and failing, to not stare at Rachel welsh after he has already been called on it is something that I can relate.
I used to download clips of The Muppet Show from Realplayer when I was a kid. No wonder I'm so messed up now.
I think the spider needs to come back.
Some people got angry about The Happytime Murders being for adults because it had puppets. Should've shown then this.
Surprisingly I seem to only remember seeing the musical number that started at 9:40 when I was kid
What about the time when Statler and Waldorf “put the show out its misery?”
And the time when they were shooting at the cast with a machine gun?
Although Statler said they were blanks, that should probably count.
I grew up on the street...Sesame Street that is. Animal has always been my favorite. He was the coolest and most Badass Muppet character there was. Animal Rocks!!
And also, Janis, The Hippie guitarist. She's the best too!!
This 22:32 min video just vindicates that it's okay to love The Muppets!!!!!!! As a kid I was picked on for loving The Muppets. The ignorant people didn't realize that Jim Henson hated being pigeonholed as a kids entertainer!!!!!! Anybody who has read/owns a book on Jim Henson or has researched his work knows that about him. He expand his horizons when he took on Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock as projects. Still Sesame Street back in the days when Jim Henson was alive appealed to the parents so that they could watch it with their kids. Fraggle Rock had messages that could reach to both kids and adults. The Muppet Show was aimed towards an adult audience but it appealed to the kids as well. The adult humor went over the kids head. It sure did for me until I saw them as an adult when I first got Season 1 on DVD when it first came out when it was released in 2005 when I was 17 years old. Just like Walt Disney with animation. Jim Henson pushed the boundaries with what we thought about puppets. Their work appealed to both kids and adults and they sent messages. Nowadays most people aren't creative anymore which is a shame. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
BayareaGuy06
Wish I could thumbs up your comment over and over and over again! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😍😀😀
Jim also wanted to make content that could appeal to the inner child in every adult. As well as use the medium of puppetry to teach kids things that would benefit them as they transitioned into adulthood.
Too many people want to treat children as an entirely different species of innocent little creatures that must never learn about certain subject matters lest it alter their entire perceptions of life. Then as they get older those same groups want to bitch and complain that teenagers and tweens don't know anything about the world. Like, they don't know because you kept it from them! You kept them purposely ignorant of the world to preserve their precious childhood innocence and then when childhood was over you just decided that they should have acquired this knowledge from "somewhere" by "means" because "reasons" and when that *didn't* happen you whine! What did you expect?!
Calm down, bud.
Well I will be

See, Brian Henson, Muppets still could be entertaining for everyone even if they're a bit more mature.
Brian doesn't own the Muppets, Disney does
Rita Moreno, aside from being a comedic genius - I love when she goes off in Spanish and then ends with “cool it!” - did that whole number to just a click track. The actual drums and bass you hear were added later. She had to just count the clicks in her head and it took dozens of takes. Of course, her own telling of this story is hilarious.
