Considering what is possible, your statement is more then true.
There is already Jupiter, mars, earth and moon map. But if someone wanted to make a 1:1 scale of the entire solar system, there’d need to be a new movement system or teleport in place. Because already with Jupiter, it would take months to noclip to it at max speed, and high host_timescale.
worse the the clusters of stars that are solar sytem is in to 1-to-1 scale

Last thing we need is 1:1 spacebuild map, so that we can fly a whole apollo mission in Gmod, and sit a whole week in the game

KSP but on Gmod
Waiting for people to implement light speed and warp speed in Gmod so we can have actual space travel. I used to think stuff like this was impossible, but these people just keep blowing my mind, and if there's anything I've learned from the Gmod community, it's that people are extremely determined and dedicated, and always manage to achieve the seemingly impossible or unexpected.
I mean there is teleportation since it's an engine and everything is already pre-rendered to an extent. Light speed would basically just be a loading screen if it were unloaded assets. But if in this case let's say the engine could only handle a few million miles of rendered space, you'd have to travel however long it would take for whatever distance you could load.
just increase the noclip speed? I don't see why you'd need a mod for this

There were a bunch of spaceship mods but I don't remember them being very fast and the plants were all small and close and were usually just a sphere image over a flat platform floating there you can fall off of
I would have liked to see normal speed movement right next to Earth or the Moon just to really demonstrate the scale.

It would take you hours upon hours before you barely notice anything and that's if you're paying close attention.
You could see when he was sprinting instead of noclip, it looked like he wasn't moving at all, it is just that slow

@@WillMarshall-kn2vc no the portal was going at probably about 3,847,660 mph, while the speed of light is 670,616,629 mph, so the speed of light is a hell of a lot faster

I just did some calculations. it was moving at ~65% of the speed of light. That is moving at relativistic velocities. It doesnt matter, its insanely fast. At that point, you might as well just say its moving at the speed of light due to the insanely high velocities and the relatively short distance. Also, if it was moving at 3,847,660 mph (btw, WHY ARE YOU USING IMPERIAL MEASUREMENTS IT MADE IT SO MUCH MORE PAINFUL TO DO MATH WITH :((((((((( ), it would have taken ~223 seconds to get there lmao. I can post all of the math if you want

Fun fact, you can fit every single planet in the Solar system between Earth and the Moon.

Space Engine at home: (Jokes aside, this is super impressive and I never thought anything like this would be possible in Source.
You can also fit every other planet in the solar system inside of Jupiter.
Which makes your distance scaling even more impressive.
The game will probably crumble, but with the ability to make maps massive, one could recreate real towns and villages one-to-one. Cities would be too much resources

If you're intrested in vastnes of space you might like to play KSP (kerbal space program). It has fictional celestial bodies with about 1/10 scale of irl counterparts but thats still pretty damn large.

The Earth is not 1 to 1 scale. Maybe the distance from the moon and earth but in terms of Earth's size, it's not 1 to 1.

No. Play Space Engine. Play No Man's Sky. Play Elite: Dangerous. All of those have much larger map sizes.

You can also just press the middle mouse button which in browsers allows you to scroll really quickly by just moving the mouse towards the side you want to scroll to.

@@NecrosVideos It's a must have for anyone remotly interested in Astronomy. You can even land on every star and planet. Everything is in high resolution as well
space turning white is probably because you are moving faster than the backdrop skybox can update? so you are seeing the map without the backdrop basically which also allows you to see everything that is not part of that backdrop (earth and moon)
unrelated note now all we need is some kind of addon to give said earth and moon accurate gravity so you can actually walk around it proper and some kind of addon to make cities and ground and clouds and stuff appear around each player on the earth! might sound impossible but being able to play on a 1 to 1 scale earth and moon map in the source engine also seemed impossible only a few years ago!

It flashes because the map isn't actually infinite. He's entering/exiting the map boundary faster than it can move it. It recycles the object positions in a very small box, but appends an index number to figure out what box number you are in.
Basically, imagine portals in the game Portal. You can see through them, but under the hood, the room you are looking at is a lie.

"its so crazy!" "shocked how big space is" .. This stuff hasnt been suprising since elementary school, wtf? the apolo missions took almost a week to get there and back total. A 1-1 scale model is going to have the same timeline to travel when given similar speeds. Nothing about the scale of space should shock anyone.
