      Series X isn't native 4k neither. It outputs 4k, but the actual internal render resolution varies by games. For the last gen, we've been playing games running at 900p and upsacled to 1080p, and it is the same with next gen. I've seen websites saying some xbox series game render at 1556p, or something like that. So both X and S are upscaling

    Here's the thing, Series S for me is a perfect purchase. I value the compactness of the Series S as I travel between Taiwan and California quite a lot and have to carry the console around for me. I used to have the original Xbox, a thicc dingus that will take up an entire hand carry luggage and often means that I have to pay for the steep airline rate for extra luggage, but now with the series S, the whole console feels not too much bigger than just the ac adaptor of the original Xbox One, and I can just throw it in my clothing pile when I'm packing. The compactness of the Series S probably saved me hundreds in luggage fees down the line. And looking at how big a PS5 and a series X is, I feel like this is the right choice

    Don’t forget about the storage price. The main reason I recommended my little brother to get the x is that it comes with like 400gbs more storage instead of paying 200 bucks for the storage upgrade on the s. If you’re gonna do that then the 200 you would’ve spent on storage could’ve just been used to get the x which has more power and more built in storage

    • @WaffleCake
      @WaffleCake Před 3 lety +127

      That's a good point. But don't forget, you only need that hyper-fast storage for true Xbox Series games. For OG Xbox, 360 and One games, you can use any old external HDD or SSD. I for one don't foresee myself needing more than ~500GB of next-gen storage.

    To anyone interested, I have owned a Series S and a PS5 for little over a year now and I do not regret buying the Series S whatsoever. I play all my multiplayer games on the Series S while all my single player/PS exclusives on the PlayStation. Reason being all my friends are on Xbox and I prefer the Xbox controller. Games like MW2 (2022) runs 120FPS at 1080p without any issues. Load times are very alike to the load times on the PS5 sometimes it even feels faster. Quiet and small. Performance issues such as hitches and stutters NEVER happened. Only two downsides to the console in my opinion, but I knew them before I bought the console, is the resolution and storage. When playing high demanding games and you look into the distance it is very clearly blurry or missing textures, sometimes you can see the world load in (pop) as you walk around, and sadly the storage can get filled up very very very quickly.

    The main reason I find the Series S more appealing personally, other than the price and looks, is that I think of it this way: I play on my regular Xbox One, and don't see a single pixel, or complain about the graphics at all. Now, you take that, make it 2K, and add ray tracing, all for only 300 dollars.

    • @masitraproductions977
      @masitraproductions977 Před 3 lety +41

      Same. I think for FPS players and online competitive gaming (cod, fortnight etc), the differences between the s and the x is negligible. Its not until you get into large open world RPG games until the differences can be noticeable with the S running lower FPS and resolution. All in all tho the S looks like a great upgrade to anyone with a stock xbox one.

      If you have a 4K TV and play relatively close to it, 1080p looks like absolute crap. 1440p looks decent, but 4k looks absolutely sharp and clear. I remember when I had my Xbox One S and I moved from a 22' 1080p monitor to a 43' 4K TV and everything just looked like it had been coated in vaseline. Now I have a gaming PC and playing games like Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 or Forza Horizon 3 at 4K the sharpness is just on another level.

      Series S is legit nice but I struggle with the fact that it doesn't have a disk drive.
      The xbox marketplace isn't consistent enough in its pricing to do away with disks all together
      Eg:
      I bought Nba 2k21 disk for $20 for my xbox one x.
      But on the marketplace it's listed as $100.
      Meanwhile Nba 2k22 has a sale at $49.
      Just doesn't make sense.
      So for now:
      Series S for gamepass ONLY.
      Series X will be my next upgrade when I get the money.

But with the Series S, I finally get to play next gen games and it was only 300 bucks. You really can't beat it. I bought 3 different games to install and got the gamepass to go with and now I feel like I have a more than perfect setup for myself. Best purchase in a long time.

    If you're still deciding, let me help: for those of you who had the Xbox one or one s, did you care that you didn't have the one x? If you didn't care about that, then you won't care about this. If the series s was 50 dollars cheaper, then you could buy two of them for the price of one series x. It's not worth it, unless you really need either the storage space or disc drive. But those should be the only two deciding factors. The difference in computing power is only something you'll notice if you compare it to other people. Every game you get will look great and even better than the games on last gen. Don't fool yourself into thinking that just because something better exists that you need to go for it. Save the two hundred dollars. The Series S is a great console and even better than last gen stuff. Think about what the previous Xbox's could run: RDR2, Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 5, etc. All those games look gorgeous on the older systems, do you really think you're going to need an improvement on that? The series S is already better than last gen, and a way better deal, plus they're actually in stock, so if none of the other reasoning helped you, at least you're able to get a series s right now instead of waiting for the other one to come in stock

      I’m on PC / PS4 and the S is a nice option for me with GamePass. Yeah I can stay on PC but $300 isn’t too bad. My only gripe about it is the internal SSD is already removable. I imagine it’s for immediate ramping up of new SKUs that offer larger storage. And who’s to say an all digital Series X won’t follow soon. Otherwise I could make 360GB work until I’m running to GameStop to trade it in. That’s one key take away. The other take away is that many backwards compatible games will run at 900p. That kinda sucks. I hope they can enforce a 1080p 60fps performance mode regardless of the developers choices. Optimized S sometimes focuses on 1440p upscaled to 4K at 30FPS. Still wish I could rock 60fps locked at 1080p as an option.

    Bought the s as my collection is all digital. I can hook up An external drive for most of my games and i can delete and install games like i have been doing the last gen as Well. I feel this is a worthy upgrade for those gamers like me that don't Care about graphics but just want to enjoy the story and game itself.

      @William Perri it can hold games like the xbox one games and some that are upgraded to s versions, like ghost recon breakpoint for example. The only game that specifically asked for to be installed on the internal up until now was the tourist. You could always delete and reinstall games, if you run out of internal space or wait until the ssd expansion is dirt cheap.

      @William Perri you can always plug in an external drive and quickly transfer games you’re not playing to it instead of deleting it, and when you wanna play the game again you can always transfer it back, and if it’s an external SSD then the transfer is really really fast actually.

    They had years seeing the One S vastly outselling the One X. Makes sense to have a less expensive option. How well games run on the Series S will be up to the developer. Will see ray tracing in some, not in others. 1440p in some, 900p in others. 30 fps in some, 60 fps in others, 120 fps in a few. Going to be all over the place where the Series X will pretty consistently be 4k 30/60 fps depending on performance modes.

      as their GDK comes online and developers no longer use the XDK so the RDNA 2 features are unlocked there should be little difference between the consoles minus resolution. But for the first year or 2 you're right that it will be very all over the place. And the 900p thing shouldn't ever happen unless it's a dynamic resolution thing once they are using the new tools.

    I bought both for $700. I bought the Series S straight up with cash and bought the Series X for $350 and a One S trade in. My 4K tv in the living will have the SX hooked up to it and my 1080 monitor in my bedroom will have the SS hooked up to that one. My only regret with the SS is the storage but that’s an easy fix. The load time is fast game resolution is solid and that one is for my kids and when I travel out of town. That Beast in the living room I will never leave the house.
