  • Norwegian Joy Cruise Vlog - Day 1 Sail Away to Alaska
    This day 1 Vlog is of our cruise to Alaska onboard the Norwegian Joy. We will set sail from Seattle and visit several ports and locations in Alaska and B.C. including Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Victoria and the Dawes Glacier in Endicott Arm. The Norwegian Joy is part of the Norwegian's Breakaway Plus class and is a sister ship to the Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss. The NCL Joy is a massive ship that is 333.46 metres in length and can hold 3883 passengers and 1700 crew. The Norwegian Joy currently has itineraries to the Mexican Riviera, Pacific Coast, Alaska, Bermuda, Panama Canal and the Caribbean. The NCL Joy has so many features including go-carts, laser tag, mini-golf, water slides, pools, hot tubs, buffets, restaurants, casino, theater and so much more. This Norwegian ship was truly amazing and a Joy to sail on.

    I have a ton of questions.
    1. Is it always Pier 66?
    2. Are there hotels right across from the pier?

    I’m a Cruise newbie, first would you advice on adding the trip insurance for the cruise? Second, would you recommend buying the specialty dining package on the Joy? And finally what is a good budget you would suggest for a family of 4 going on a 7 day cruise? Thanks in advance! Cheers!

    • @NorthernVikingExplorer
      @NorthernVikingExplorer  Pƙed 2 lety

      Thanks for commenting, these can be tricky questions because everybody has different opinions. Here are some of my thoughts. We have always had some sort of insurance whether it be private or through the ship. For our upcoming cruise with the current world situation we have both. We've always been very happy with the complimentary dining on the ship. If you're trying to stay on a budget this is a great option but the dining in the specialty restaurants always looks amazing. Budgeting needs to be based on your personal situation and what you can afford. There's plenty of stuff to do that is free and there is a lot of expensive stuff as well. Ie. Spas, go karts, arcades, casinos, haircuts, etc.

    I'm curious about the theme nights on the Joy? We are sailing Aug 17-24

      They had the glow party in which they recommended white or neon. While we were sailing it was Canada day and the 4th of July so there was a lot of Red White and Blue. I hope that you have an amazing trip!

    Elements and Footloose will be the featured shows on the Joy. So how often are those shows are presented for the duration of your cruise? Also, should you see Elements and Footloose on two (2) separate evenings, what would be the other type of shows be available to cruisers on the other evenings of the cruise? And do you need reservations for the shows other than Elements, and Footloose?

    • @NorthernVikingExplorer
      @NorthernVikingExplorer  Pƙed 5 lety

      Both of these shows were wonderful. I believe they only show them on seperate nights because there was quite a bit of stage preperation. They did have multiple showing for each of them but the seats booked up quickly. We were able to pre book ours on the Norwegian website before sailing and we selected the sea days. As for other shows they had several comedy acts, a welcome show and a magic show on our sailing. Best bet is to book all the entertainment either online or as soon as you get on the ship.

      @@NorthernVikingExplorer ......Thanks for your reply. I have an interest to do a Panama cruise later this fall either on the Norwegian Joy (Oct) or the Pearl (Nov). I have never cruise before of a ship size of Joy which I would like to experience. I am learning that due to the size of the ship such as the Joy, and the number of people on the ship, the entertainment would have to be all booked in advance. The more that I have looked into either the Joy or the Pearl, I am leaning on the smaller ship where the entertainment would still would be available should I decide to go or not to go, however, I do understand that the entertainment would not be the "big" productions like the Elements, or Footloose.

    Is this cruise a round trip from Seattle? Or a northbound cruise, ending where?

    Do you suggest the drink package?

    • @NorthernVikingExplorer
      @NorthernVikingExplorer  Pƙed 5 lety

      Most drinks onboard are in the 7-10 dollar range so it depends on how much you drink. Also keep in mind that you are in port 3-4 days of your cruise so you are off the ship most of this time not using your drink package. It all depends on how much you plan to buy.

  • @TheUnapologeticAdventurer

    Are movies shown on the big screen at night?

    • @NorthernVikingExplorer
      @NorthernVikingExplorer  Pƙed 5 lety +1

      During our cruise to Alaska the movies were inside in the Atrium. Probably because it was cold out in Alaska. My guess is that they would play movies outside if it was in a warmer destination.
