  • The folks at Tombow were kind enough to send me a set of their new MONO Drawing Pens and two sets of their TwinTONE Markers (one bright and one pastel). I tried the pens and markers out...
    On a manila tag.
    On deli paper.
    In my art journal.
    In my Bullet Journal.
Watch the video to see my explorations!

By the way ...my Tombow are about 3 years older than my Distress Markers....and they have outlived them by far!! None of them have dried out....unlike some...

Tombows are my favourite markers. Adore them! I have the dual brush markers and they make me very happy.

I have old Tombow markers, which are probably the same formula as the basic color dual tip Tombows that they make now, but have had this set of random markers I gathered in 2006/2007. I don't use them a lot because I'm not a marker girl as a rule, so I haven't depleted their ink supply. I keep them in a plastic food storage (Lock & Lock?) container so their storage is air tight. I have opened them in the past several months and they are as juicy and vibrant as they were when I first got them. Tombow is quality as far as I am concerned. I usually scribble their color on plastic and pick them up with a damp watercolor brush, but rarely use them as a typical marker. But the variety of colors they carry in their basic line is really wonderful. I do say that this broad tip on the set you demo'd looks like a sturdier tip than the 'brush' tip marker on mine. I'm definitely going to give the drawing pens a try. I have the Tombow set of marker in a 6 piece set of cool and warm grays....love that set and use it for shading. Excellent company IMO. Thank you for the demo :)

I have had a set of Tombow dual brush pens for two or three years now, tucked away in a cabinet. I just pulled them out a couple of weeks ago and made a holder for them to keep them visible (like candy on display) and level, so that I will start using them. They react so beautifully with water. I love them! I also love a good .01 pen for writing postcards for PostCrossing (easier for neat writing and cramming a lot onto the card) and for doodling. Thanks for this review.

Love your efforts to find out what works and what doesn't 😊✏

Those look great! I haven't tried those before, thank you for reviewing them. I usually use Neopiko but am always looking for new black markers.

I adore my Tombow markers, use them mostly for brush lettering and my BuJo. I wonder if these are blendable? Also they LAST and keep their shape. thanks for the review!

I found that the colors layered nicely -- not the same as blendable, but close.

I'm not sure I understand what the difference is between the twintone and the regular dual brush markers. Maybe it's the tips. I use the older tombow markers a lot, instead of watercolor pans. It is great when traveling. Lay the color down along the edge of your sketch then use a waterbrush to blend out the color. It works best on mixed media and bristol paper.

I have Tombow pens from close to eight years ago which have never dried out. This is about the only good thing I have to say about them . The colours once on paper do fade away to nothing even when tucked away in a drawer or a journal as I discovered only a few months ago when I pulled out the first things i ever used them on. I would only use them as an 'underpaint' layer for coloured pencil in a colouring book now. I wouldn't even as much as a draw a line on anything using them if I sold art to anyone.
