  • Thorfinn Karlsefni was an explorer and trader that was born in the late 10th century in Iceland. Born Thorfinn Thordarson, this Icelandic aristocrat who was the descendant of Kings, led one of the Norse expeditions to Vinland, which was an area of coastal North America. Many sagas speak about the deeds of Thorfinn such as the Saga of the Greenlanders and he is a chief subject in the Saga of Erik the Red. Many of you may know Thorfinn from the show Vinland Saga, however, today we will delve into the real life of this royal blooded adventurer. This is his story.

If you've only seen the anime, just know there's actual manga spoilers in this video due to the similarities with the real life Thorfinn.

Amazing. Thorfinn sailed into the unknown to escape war and bloodshed and when he found them both in the new world he turned around and went home to try for a life free of war and bloodshed. Legendary.

I think the author of Vinland Saga kind of fused a lot of characters into his story's version of Thorfinn. Which is admittedly hard to craft.

I have read some texts that speculate that in addition to the oxen breaking loose and frightening the indigenous peoples of Vinland, some scholars think that the dairy products Thorfinn’s people traded to the indigenous peoples may have given the latter severe lactose-intolerance symptoms, and potentially caused the indigenous people to suspect the settlers had been trying to poison them. Does that also come from the Icelandic Sagas or does that argument by scholars/historians come from a different source?

Karlsefni is typically regarded as meaning “the makings of a man”, which as an Icelander, I’d agree is the most correct translation without being too direct with it. If his nickname were karlshæfni I’d think it a bit strange.

It’s just an acknowledgment, it doesn’t stop being flattering after you grow up. Remember this was a thousand years ago as well, nobody knows where he earned the name karlsefni but it’s typically theorized that he earned it somewhere in his travels meaning he probably did something extraordinary. Something only rare men would or could do. Enough for people to define him as having the true makings of a man.

The real Miyamoto Musashi was a Philosopher after being a Ronin for a few years among other things but most notably he had the most duels recorded and won obviously 🤣. He highlights all his duels in the "book of the five rings" which started as scrolls and letters but was later published for public readers and scholars. It's a great read I'd recommend it. It emphasizes how martial arts can be applied to more than one discipline so he sought to master more than one profession by implementing different types of discipline from the 5 elements.

My Kin. We weren't born to fight, we were Hell raised to. The Northmen - I grew up in the Vineland surrounded by the pine barrens (barren womb/earth) where the Jersey Devil haunts the blood soaked lands of Free-dom (to escape service/the Kingdom). People here like to play with Stranger Things, dark things, worship devils and demons, and they cried vengeance, and vengeance came - for them - be careful when you call for justice because justice will come for you - the scales must be balanced. We grow a mean Devil's Fruit in the Vineland, tomatoes, because the ground is so salty and swampy from the past, and people love to smother their bread that Pan bakes for them in an oven with it and all their other wicked delights - consumers - those that demand service rather than serving - the Free-dom lovers. They think violence is cute now, lazy dogs who never even touched a blade much less had it plunged into them, and fall for this myth that Valhalla is where my kin want to return - we do not - we want Freya to bring us Fólkvangr where we can rest and be with our loved ones again - but we have wicked delights from the battles and we would be restless there because of it - this endless war - you dogs - you arrogant dogs doing it all over again, screaming God is dead and Science is king as you raise Hell around this place again, so you will see them all re-emerge if you haven't already, those you despised even though they brought you what you want, breakers of chains - the ones you left dead and buried, but the Winter snow can only cover so much after the Fall and only wash away the blood on the surface in Spring, the bones remain, the truth remains - what we are, what this place is, and eventually the past will rise up to haunt us when we forget to learn our lessons of history. Rainbow - the Pride symbol - why it arches up and goes back on the earth - because sin will not enter heaven. Pride: violet, Envy: green, Wrath: red, Greed: yellow, Lust: blue, Sloth: indigo, and Gluttony: orange (passion fruit). We are dog/god reversed - canine - carnivore - consumers of delight/flesh. We are a union of our crimes: Wrath (Mars/War/red) and Lust (Venus/Sex/blue) - in the mother of sin - mother nature - consuming the womb with a view. Rather than sitting around contemplating this world, why not bend a knee and serve and know what this lie system, this World Wide Web will ever teach you. They're dancing to Blackpink (pink=innocence) and handing out black pills. Now's the time. Matthew 6.

I think that old gods might survive there and even convert Indians to Nordic faith. Imagine Cree tribe raiding other tribes just to go to Valhalla. Interesting stuff.

They would have just made it New Denmark or New Sweden or Norway.
Instead of New England which it became. It would be more Scandinavian in character with official language being Swedish or Danish.

Look at France, the UK, Germany, and Russia. In a roundabout way, they did, and their children chose war during the main colonization phase
