- Am I too old to do ballet? That's what I've been asking myself for far too long. I never imagined I'd be here today finally living my dreams, but I'm a much happier, healthier person since I started to learn how to do ballet.
And the truth I've discovered from learning this beautiful art of dance is that it is NEVER too late to start ballet.
Don't worry if you're a late starter, there are so many people I know who didn't even THINK of starting dance until they were older than me or you. So don't get discouraged by age, just DANCE!
You're not too old, or too young, or too fat, or too poor, or not good enough. Dance is for anyone and everyone and if you feel the need to express yourself through movement, please try taking a class, it could change your life.

I want to start ballet but I have a feelings my parents would get mad so do you know any good free lessons or like videos or tips?
@@ChloeEditzChloewhy would they get mad ?😢
@@crazyplantlady4691 my mom was okay with it but like idk what if they think the outfits are to " revealing " they got mad when like one of my sibilings wanted to be a actor.
She is lovely, Im happy to see that, you can still work for yourself, building confidence. Ballet is the best to mantaine the body in Great condition for longer...
I was 36 when i started, but in your and my case:it is too laze!however, for pros!
I was told the same thing at 17 and now I’m 26. It’s hard to find beginner adult classes where the teacher takes you seriously.
ugh you're so right. I struggled with that for many years in my small hometown. I so wish more studios were like the ones in New York where it doesn't matter how old you are AT ALL!
Do you know of any ballet classes for 12 year olds? I started middle school so now I don’t have a lot of time for research.
@@limate08there’s one where I live but unfortunately I live in Northern England, not in the USA
@@limate08hi! im in ballet and also twelve. although i did do ballet for around 6 years, i quit at 8 years old. i just recently started back, and im in a class called ballet 3. im with younger kids, but im still catching up from what i have missed. if you go to your local dance studio, they can probably evaluate you and place you into a certain class. 😊
Same age and same situation for me. I wish I hadn't let the words of "experts" deter me from pursuing things a decade ago, but now as an adult I'm finding small ways to start some of my hobbies/dreams.
i'm 20 and just started. my teacher started when he was 25 and now he teaches at joffrey. he made me realize it truly is never too late :)
w teacher! ☁️
That's fantastic!
This was so inspiring to read 🩷
Wow !! I'm so inspired... I started my ballet adult class at 31 , but i was a dancer back in my 13 - 17 and stopped. Now i also still active with combat sport, i guess it's easier to catch up with body stretching right? I'm quite flexible for my age hehehe
Bill Waldinger? My hero
I danced when I was a child and gave it up when I was 12. Restarted after a cancer desease when I was 44. Now I am 62 and still do the ballet three times a week. I love it!
Ur comment give me hope..thnk u ❤
I was a passionate ballet student in high school, and now at 62 have started classes again. It is fantastic to see myself improving and learning once again!!!
Beautiful! Quick tip, try to keep your hips completely still during tendu’s
excellent tip! Thank you! I need a constant reminder for that! thanks for sharing :)
@@VeronicaViccoraanother tip: when you tendu your leg back to your starting position, don’t bend your leg. :))))))))))))))))))))) :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Go gurl!🩰😆
Well done! Top tip for knees straight unless you go in fondue 😽 if you are in the uk we have lovely ladies only lessons at Barking venue in London you more than welcome!
You're amazing. Please keep the hip still. Take care of your body, ballet is hard, having too much passion without attention to technique could (always potentially) be injurious. Wishing you the best. @@VeronicaViccora
Guys, I was fourty years old when I started ballet and did it for three years. Unfortunately I moved away and didn’t find a good teacher anymore.
Now I am 54 and I want to do it again so I am looking for a good school🥰
Good luck finding the right school for you! Everyone deserves to dance, Wishing you all the best
👏👏👏👏🥳🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi there, I am 50 years old and I’m in the same boat as you. I found that there are dozens of excellent training programs online for adult dancers. Even on CZcams. (and yes, even Pointe ). You can subscribe and get personalized classes where they broadcast on zoom, and they can see your body and give you corrections. It’s almost just as good as being in a real class.
Of course nothing as awesome as being in the studio. But I’ve done a ton of work at home and improved tremendously. I bought a ballet bar (the one they sell at target is is the best one… Don’t waste your money on any of the others). And I pull it out a couple of times a week and just drill and drill and drill exercises. Very slowly, I have overcome weaknesses, improved my technique, and of course, I’m loving the way my body looks and feels.
Eventually, when the time is right, you will find a studio with an adult dance class. Until now, join us online because that’s where we all are!
you look so pretty! i went to my first lesson earlier this week at age 30. no prior dance experience. my instructor was so kind and encouraging. he said that adult beginners are his favorite to teach because there is no pressure from parents or anyone else to succeed, it's all for the joy of dance and desire to learn.
That’s how I feel in my classes (same background as you but started in my late 30s). A supportive teacher who balances their respect for the art with a compassionate approach is really fun to be taught by.
You're inspiring! 🌷
Great job girl !!! Let’s keep going on and never listen to toxic people Beethoven made music even after he became deaf .. so let’s keep dancing my fellow ballerina
Thank you Zayn!! Love you positivity and couldn't agree more! That's a wonderful comparison
I’m 16 and luckily none of my teachers have told me I’m too old. I’m super grateful because I desperately want to get to the level of pointe.
i hope you do! keep working hard pointe is intense lmao it hurts so so bad ❤
You absolutely can get to pointe! There's no age limit on that, it's just a matter of building the strength and mobility you need for it
@@r0rywho it shouldnt do! Unless your shoes are incorrectly fitted, you're injured, not ready, using inproper technique, have toenails that need cutting or have been going en pointe for a long time/dancing a long performance.
@@IATEALLTHECHEESE BAHA no it only really hurts because i don’t cut my nails LMFAO
@@r0rywhoI don’t cut my nails either 😭😭😭😭
I really try but for some reasons my toenails grow so fast it’s a pain!!!!
I’m a classical vocalist and have always been so gutted by stage fright, I couldn’t even audition, until now. For some reason I don’t have the same fears I used to. I’m at an age when no one would recommend I pursue professional vocal work. But life is too short, and ultimately, no one really cares what I do. It’s my life and I’d like to leave with as few regrets as possible. Maybe even inspire others, just like you are.
this is AMAZING!!! And it's so good to hear that you're following your HEART, not everyone else's small minded thinking lol. It's so freeing to wake up and realize that no one really gets a say in what you choose to do with your life
Im 27 and going to my first ballet class. Im so excited!
YES!!! Congratulations, I hope it went/is going well!
What about now
Same, I'm 31 now and I'm listening to myself and my body, always loved to dance with all my soul. This video comes at the right moment, i know that. I'm trying too. Thank you 🩰🦋
YESSS! Follow your heart! 🥰💕🫶 so excited for you
@@VeronicaViccora Thank you so much, this kind of videos helps a lot ✨ Let these opinions not prevent us from trying to make our dreams come true 🦋🤍🫧
I start to love it at age 50 😁
That's so beautiful!
As a dancer, I believe nobody is too old or too young to start dancing. You just need to be passionate. Dance can make anyone fall in love with it and it's so great to see people start dancing no matter what age they are at. ❤ Keep going ❤
I am 15 and my biggest dream is to take up ballet classes… everyone around me say that I’m already too old for that, but it’s my life and only I myself make right decisions, so hopefully this year I’m gonna start ballet ❤
I understand that as well. I started when I was 28. I ended up taking classes with teenagers and young teens. The teens were actually pretty open to it because they once had a much older lady take classes with them as well. But the teacher seemed somewhat condescending towards me. A few years later, more in shape, and in more advanced classes, I ran into that teacher who seemed really surprised at my progress. We have to start somewhere to change these stigmas and beliefs. I was told at 18 I was too old to start anything performance related. I can honestly say, it is a lie. You are just as capable as a teen. I have seen 60 year olds start dancing and in a few years, they have beautiful strong bodies and look just a graceful as the younger dancers. And considering the health crisis in America, dance is a very powerful way to not only keep in shape, but motivate one into a healthy lifestyle and keep you very strong and active.
What? No way! You're still so young don't listen to whoever told you that!
Misty Copeland didn’t start till she was 13, don’t give up!
This helps me so much I am 14 and want to do ballet and my parents just keep saying no your too old but this helps.
There’s such a huge misconception. I hope you’ll get to try it one day, it’s so good for so many reasons!
@@VeronicaViccora thanks 😊
It's the same for me
I did ballet from when I was 7-10 years old and during recent years have been wanting to start again but didn’t have the courage. I know I won’t be able to start up again this season since there’s only a few months left and next year I’m going to a sort of “boarding school” so I can’t start then either. so my only option is to start after that where I’ll be 16-17. Unfortunately it’s really hard to find beginner classes for 16-17 year olds but I’m not ready to give up on my dream quite yet :) Dance used to be a big part of my identity and without it I just don’t feel myself.
I was told that also but already in my 30's when I tried to go back..i miss it so much. Dance brings so much life and as a child it was my escape from all the pain around me.
no one should be kept away from something that we were born to do
I just started 💕 it’s videoed like this that give me courage to begin ‘late’ as well. I hope everyone who started late like me keeps going 💕
YESSS!!! Follow your heart, always 🥰 I’m so excited for you!
I have started two months ago, and I'm 48
Im 30, I danced contemporary dance when I was 11-12yo and I loved it, but I quit because I really wanted to do ballet instead but there was no vacancy for me in a class, so I gave up. Doing ballet classes (for fun) has always been my dream. I am going to see if I can join a ballet school nearby and make my dream come true ❤
Where there’s a will, there’s a way! I’m rooting for you!!
Yea but fhe hard part is that when ur the only older and taller one, its honestly awkward and sort of embarrassing. Cause Ive always wanted to try ballet but am too scared
So glad you tried again. Dance is for everyone!
Watching your technique I see your hips moving. Keeping your hips still will help you move quicker and elevate your dance. 😊
Thank you so much! My hips and tendus have come a long way since this video! And you’re 100% right!
Thankyou. I am 18 and want to learn ballet when I searched how many time it takes to learn ballet I lost my hope but thanks to you now I am gonna give it my all.
FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! Don't let the naysayers get you down! I'm rooting for you
I started at 19 and danced with the national ballet of Venezuela and the Grand Ballet Canadiense 😊
im 17 and I do want t start in dance, and this was so encouraging!
I wish you all good luck
I started at ten and still feel discouraged but one of the best teachers I had started at thirteen and became a pro in NY. I’ve made it this far so might as well continue😁 Indeed it is never too late to start
EXACTLY! There are sooooo many stories like this out there and it's more possible than people might believe!
100%! My story is not that unique
wow this actually made me so happy. i always wanted to do ballet but couldn’t because we were too poor. i always felt like it would come really naturally (i weirdly kinda have always stood in first position naturally for some reason?? and have a point that ballerinas would be jealous of), but because everyone shames you and says it’s impossible unless you were morphed since age 5, i always thought i’d never be able to try, but this is very encouraging :-) maybe some day when i’m looking for something new to do i’ll try it out
Ballet is good for everyone at any age ❤
(Beginner) Adult ballet classes are honestly a win to support dance academies. Dance is *very* expensive and parents of dance kids can’t always commit to it financially but financially stable adults who want to take up something new, a childhood dream or restorative exercise for the elderly; it’s good!
This helps me so much. Im starting at 16 and i am surrounded by kids younger than me who are way more experienced and its hard to want to keep going when I feel that there is no point. But I know that if I keep working hard I can achieve my goal❤
I left my last college because my teacher told me I couldn't do the theory, I'm now 20 and starting the whole process again then going on to drama school! I'm a slow learner but hope I'm good enough!
A slow learner is better than not learning at all! Wishing you all the best on this new journey
You're only 20, you have the whole world at your finger tips or tippy toes. I'm glad you took back your power and listened to your heart, instead of her words. Slow learner "no", you were young and you listened to someone who should know better to say such a thing to a young person. Do what you Love 🌸
I'm 18, these days I have music in my head all the time, and I would like to start again ballet, even though I've never been good at it... I just want to dance to the music in my head
I restarted a few weeks ago, I'm nearly 13, and everyone seemed so much better but practice makes you better
I literally put a comment on a ballet video to see if anyone would reply about having done ballet when they're older as I'm looking online/somewhere near me and thought maybe someone on CZcams would comment they'd had this experience. I then came onto this video straight away; maybe it's the algorithms lol well done 🎉
I'm 28 and I want to start so badly.
When you do your Ron de jambe try to put your heel on the floor because it wasn’t completely on the ground and straighten your but that’s eat your doing really good
proud to report my Ron de jambes have improved since filming this video and your advice is SPOT on! Thank you!
@@VeronicaViccora I’m 11 in a pre preffesiniol studio training and I saw this today I’ve never seen your channel but that’s great that you have improved!!!!!
Don’t mind my spelling😭😅
I started ballet when I was 4, mom took me out of lessons at 8 y/o. I started again at age 25 but it got too expensive. I’m 26 now and hope I’ll be able to start it again soon and stay consistent.
Im 12 and I thought I am to old for ballet! This is so encouraging! Thank you! 💜
Keep following your dreams! You have SOOOO much time!
@@VeronicaViccora thank you so much! 🩵
(Sorry for the late response) but I wanted to ask… You think I still can get a professional ballerina?
girl u are not even close to being too old youve got more of a future than i do
@@cyy_an thanks 🩵
I had the same belief. Started ballet when I was 21 but felt there was no point because I thought I was already too old to become a ballerina. Then started again when I was 29 and yet life got in the way and I felt I couldn’t be dedicated enough to the art. Now I am 34 and I started it again a week ago and I am never letting go this time.
I’m 17 and just starting, I will never stop. It’s just fun. I don’t feel like it has to go anywhere. I only have one life, and every day I live is a gift from god. I can do as I wish with that gift.
I can't believe a teacher would say 'there is no point'. One good reason is its good for mental and physical health.
One of so many wonderful reasons! Thankfully we don’t always have to listen the naysayers 💕
I danced from 3 to 13 and really want to dance again at 27
DO IT!!! that's a perfect age to start in my opinion ;)
I started when I was 7, stopped when I was 9.... started again when I was 28 and I am still going.
Good for you ❤❤
I love ballet too I started in my early 20s, and I consistantly and passionately practice it just for fun and for the love of this beautiful art ✨🫶🏼xD
There should be lifelong schools teaching ballet at all ages for how wonderful it makes you feel. When endorphins are flooding you and you're walking everywhere on the balls of your feet and your muscles all are tight and toned, every day is sunshiny with daffodils. Once you get "there" you never forget it and always strive to get back there! :) ❤❤❤ Karen C.
Beautifully said! I couldn’t agree more!
Never listen to someone who says not to do the thing you love❤
muchas gracias por su commentario! (y lo siento por mi espanol)
I got back into it in my 60’s. My feet morphed into ballet feet again, believe it or not.
I believe it! The human body incredible
I love ballet and I'm so sorry that this happened to you is this a true story 🩰🦢
it is a true story but it's okay! life is sooo good now!
I love this! I'm pusuing art with 35 now. I know exactly how things people say can linger within us and hold us back, because we believe them. Especially when it comes from role figures or teachers.
But I also know how liberating it feels to start listen to your heart and just do what you love!
I am so happy for you and. Hope that there will be much more years for you doing what you want to do!❤
I'm so happy for you too!! Thank you so much for sharing your story from he art perspective, it's good for people to see that these limiting beliefs don't just get in our way only in the world of dance
20 years old, did it for most of my childhood but quit when I was 12…
I’m getting back into stretching daily and taking care of my body through exercise like ballet.
I feel like this is what my body was meant to do
YES! Bodies were made to move, congratulations on reclaiming who you are!
i wish i can go ballet im 10 years old so good luch
You might never be a “ballerina” as in professional ballet dancer, but that doesnt mean theres no point to it!! Ballet comes with improved posture, range of motion, memory, discipline, and balance, along with the development of lean muscle mass, social interaction, and of course-happiness!
For a teacher to tell a student that theres no point to them doing _the literal best activity on the planet_ is something i cant even comprehend.
As I see it, some people like the gym, or to go running or yoga… some of us prefer ballet. That’s our zen zone. Don’t you stop. You look great.
I love ballet but my parents won’t let me do it so I just do it in my room teaching myself
I just started taking Lyrical, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop at the age of 40! I’m 3 weeks in and loving the challenge!
Omg congratulations!!! That’s awesome! Go you!!
I did ballet until I graduated high school and I miss it desperately, it’s only been one year since then but it’s difficult to find adult classes in a small town especially since I don’t have any money as a college student
YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL INSPIRATION TO US ALL!!! I'm very happy for you!! ❤❤❤❤❤
you're a beautiful soul for leaving such a kind comment! Thank you!
Thanks God I live in Moscow, here we have lots of ballet studios for amateur❤❤❤
Thank you! I really needed to hear that. Im almost 22 and I'm doing ballet for a year now. As a kid I did a few years, but did not take seriously. My ultimate dream since I'm 5 is to dance on pointshoes (Yes, because of barbie lol). I always see people my age that are soooo advanced and I just feel awful. This video makes me a little more proud of myself and make me not want to quit ballet because of my insecurites.
Sorry, english is not my mother tongue.
I started at 14 it’s never too late!!🎉❤
I love how you positive and strong and caring and loving
Thank you💕 sending love!
I wanted to do ballet when I was little, but my mother didn't allow me to. I'm turning 20 next month, and I've officially started taking classes. I can't help but wish that I might, in some years, get so good that I can maybe start doing or studying it professionally - like I've always wanted to. But I'm pretty sure that's never going to be possible since every ballet school wants people who started young. But I can still enjoy, you know, just doing it.
I have a friend who just turned pro at 32! Also, there are countless ways to be a "professional dancer" even if it's not in a ballet company specifically (commercial dancing like tv, movies, music videos, etc, dancing in plays, dancing in smaller theaters, starting your own dance company or dance studio, teaching dance, etc) and you can ABSOLUTELY find ways to perform, paid or unpaid, even when starting late. But yes, it's also MORE than okay to just dance for the love of it, just don't let the world keep you small
I think its because people think or assume when people want to do things like ballet, that they expect specific things that may be possible only in certain cases, like be the leading ballerina in a royal paris opra house. But what people forget to think or realize is that being in the present and actually enjoying and loving it is worth more than the future. Because how can if you have a happy future if you dont have a happy present. Not that if youre feeling bad its inavlid though, what youre feeling, good or bad, true or false, its valid
I always wanted to join ballet but im too insecure to wear the clothes :/
Genauso ist es richtig❤…ich bin 63 Jahre alt und tanze immer noch Ballett…nicht mehr so wie früher aber immer noch mit Begeisterung…Tanz ist Hingabe und wer das versteht ist nie zu alt…also weiter so❤

Wow!!! That’s fantastic, what a full circle moment that must have been 💖
I always wanted to take ballet when I was younger but my parents said I had to focus on music and I just gave up on it. Now at 37 I still wish I had the chance, but feel like I’d be way too old for any class. 😔
Is it ok to be a ballerina if you're age is 10?
You have SOOOOOO much wonderful life to live ahead of you! You have PLENTY of time to pursue your passions, keep going love
I just started learning how to ice skate after two decades of having internalized that "it wasn't something people that looked like me did". Now am doing group lessons weekly and private lessons twice a month. Am not looking at taking ballet lessons to correct some posture issues. It took a while too but am glad I got here. Getting rid of those thoughts it's hard and take a very long time but for me, it was paying attention to my day dreams and picking out the voice that kept whispering anytime I so much as tried to Google stuff on it. Again, not an easy thing to do but when you ask yourself why not, be mindful that what might be holding you back is something someone told you or a perfection you got and then assume that's how it is and write it down. Interrogating that voice becomes easier the more you ask it why.
Thank you ❤ you're awesome
thank YOU!!!

empecé ahora a mis 19 años y sé que tal vez nunca sea una bailarina profesional pero tampoco esa es mi meta, siempre admire el ballet y lo veo como hobby. Nunca es tarde para nada.
I've always wanted to do ballet, my mom wanted to put me in ballet classes, but my dad said "she doesn't need that."
I'm 23, diabetic (just like my father), and i do community theater. If i was allowed to follow that passion, I probably wouldnt be so depressed meaning id probably have eaten better and kept my health in check, plus id have been a better dancer which would have helped me SO much in my community theater life.. i think i DID need that.
I don't want to be a professional, i just want to dance.
I'm so sorry to hear all of this. It is hard when we don't have those creative outlets, they definitely manifest in other ways, I totally feel you.
