The fact that a lot of fans are pissed off that Luffy doesn't have sandals in the live action makes me worry that they're gonna get mad over every little thing 😬 my worries were brought down a lot when i saw just how passionate Matt Owens and the main cast for the Straw Hats are about One Piece

Yeah I think the thing that has my hopes up more than anything is seeing some many quotes from Owens and Maeda about their love of the manga. Really hope it translates

    Great video...
I think the show runner/writer Matt Owens is uptodate with the manga well aware of the characters, and thier motivations..
He himself is a huge fan.
And it is his dream project to make it work. The actors, crew, all actually seem ti care about the manga... And not just do superficial publicity stuff like the Cowboy bebop crew.
Matt told that he will still make one piece which is goofy, funny, makes us laugh, cry as the original retaining the core soul of it.. the adventure, nakama, emotions, the characters, their bonds, loyalty etc. And most if all Oda's team is actively involved in approval of any creative changes as well as casting choices. And since Oda is an executive producer and not some random consultant, he will have authority over the things if he wants to, and Oda is actively giving his feelings that how he is the most worried person about it, but based on what he saw, he is assured it'll be good.
And in one of the interviews Steve Maeda said that Oda is actually giving them inputs on what the purpose or intention of that particular scene is and what it is conveying.... Meaning whatever the changes are done to adapt it, the essence of it won't be lost.
One thing im sure is that writing/script will be good. Sets, CG will also be good given the budget... If vision is proper.
Only main challenge is to pull off the goofy world, humor if one piece inti live action and make it fit to the medium.
If they can do, it'll be great.
But even if they fail to di it properly, the story. The characters, the writing will still be good. So it wont be a disaster or will not turn into an abomination like Dragonball evolution. Worst case scenario, it'll be a decent attempt to adapt an anime which is one of the the most difficult manga/anime to adapt.
And most of all even though the Netflix hate is valid, the creative decisions are taken by the team and if the team is good, and guided by write people, it shouldn't be as horrendous as Netflix deathnote movie.

Very well made and thought out video.
Also, we know that there are gonna be some changes. Garp, Bogart and Mr7 will appear in the first season. With Garp and Bogart we'll probably get the Diary of Koby-Meppo. And with Mr7 we'll see Zoro killing him. We probably won't get the interaction, were Mr7 reveals that he is from Baroque Works and offers Zoro a job, but rather just Zoro killing him. That way Baroque Works won't be spoiled in the first season. Matt Owens said, that things like this will be necessary so that the show can have some connective tissue.

The main problem I have with this is characters design I have never imagined how nightmare fuel inducing the designs will look. One example was OG movie sonic and he is far easier to do then some one piece characters

    • @aniessays
      @aniessays  Před rokem +1

Sonic is a really good example of everything that could go wrong with this first season. Hopefully if the designs don't translate well but things like characterization and the story are working, the team will be willing to make big changes, in terms of design, like we saw for Sonic.

Idk if you know this but it's already been confirmed that it will be 8 episodes, not 10.
And this came from Oda himself. He also stated that this show will not broadcast until he is fully satisfied with the show. So it seems like this will be at least somewhat decent.

It's been 8 months since they wrapped. Post-production can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months depending on the project. There's gonna be a lot of CGI in this show, so obviously it'll be leaning more towards 12 months. We'll probably get a trailer in June or July, nothing has been delayed if that's what you're trying to imply.

In difference to Dragon Ball Evolution at least half of the cast and crew knows the original story. I don't see any chance that Matt Owens (co-showrunner) and Emily Rudd (Nami) would have stayed on the show if it would have been in danger of getting to this absurdly low level - both are certified One Piece nerds that can easily talk about the original series for hours. Besides the actor for Zoro who follows the japanese customs for public appearances the rest of the straw hats actors have also shown a real passion for their characters.

@@fabiofernandes9122 The director of two episodes is Marc Jobst who hasn't made a bad episode of a TV show in the past ten years (and he seems to always make only 1 or 2 episodes for any show), is liked for the Witcher season 1 finale and the Daredevil episode New York's Finest and even worked on the pirate series Black Sails before. Tim Southam (2 episodes) made the best episode of Bate's motel and is firm in Sci-Fi and fantasy. The biggest unknowns are Josef Kubota Wladyka (worked i.e. Narcos) and even more Emma Sullivan who worked on episodes for the awful The Watch and current Doctor Who.
