If you look at the 2:05 mark you can see the rope suspended on it's own. The magic happens when Teller ties a slip knot at the 1:55 mark and hides the knot in the hole. Then when the "Magic" happens the quick tug releases the knot.
How does he make the first rope entry being fake then? At 1:51 he inserts one of the ends. Using a knot doesn't solve the issue with the one end actually going into the cube.

So they can edit stuff together afterwards more easily. Same outfit for the whole season.
They shoot the whole season in a few days I believe. They all wear everything the same so they can create better episodes and split up the foolers
