I use my bucket as a early warning device against unseen rocks and stumps. I roll back rhe bucket so that if it does hit something it would slide over the rock without coming to a dead stop giving me time to deal with the rock before the brush hog finds it.. I enjoy your videos. Eric
Hard to do that in rough fields like mine is. My 6ft and my 12ft batwing have many loose bolts due to hitting so much crap. Blades look great though. Might need a sharpening already.
I loved mowing one one to bother you an I had a woods chopper 30 ft two full size wings loved it I mowed about 2.500 acres in the summer months jus before harvest
Need an old 7 ft sickle bar mower on your smaller tractor to mow close to river but still stay away. Sure did a good job cleaning up the field. Thx for the video!!
Well, just like going down memory lane. I remember having to check all the grease points on my 15 foot batwing mower. I remember having a check the main gearbox it’s at the head of the mower to make sure it had enough heavy grease in it then as you went back on the two shafts drove the outbound blades. There was two grease fittings there. Then there were another grease fitting near the centrifugal clutch and having a check the clutches on both sides making sure they weren’t burnt. Overall, it was a fun job and it didn’t pay too bad.
I was going through the woods yesterday and did what you were talking about with the loader. You described it perfectly to use it as a "feeler" it also serves well to scoot logs and fallen trees out of the way. Just a heads up: if there's lots of trees (either standing or fallen) be careful that they don't collide/rotate/slide around to where the other end gets up under the tractor (I'm sure you know that but just a heads up because it can happen fast lol)
I was out brush hogging a state line where the high tension power lines were over head (we own 360 acres and it’s split in the northern side of the property by Ohio and Michigan) I was probably a quarter mile off of the gravel path and I was on an old Ford 4000SU and she started sputtering and quit and wouldn’t start back up. I thought it was fuel related but turned out the coil finally bit the dust. Anyway I called for some help and they brought a HPX Gator and I’ll be damn we hooked her up and it pulled my ass all the way back to the shop!
Great video Dennis , good advise using the loader bucket to protect you and the equipment .One must be on the guard brush hogging in high growth .Take care ,be safe . SEE ya .👍👍😊✌

When mowing steep ground and the grass is wet use th 4x4 or if on 2wd back down the hill to prevent sliding. As a teenager I learned this the hard way. Luckily all I needed way a new pair of underwear. Lol. The bucket helps keep radiator a little cleaner also I think
How come you don’t have a ball on your steering wheel and do you ever have trouble with stickers sticking in your tires recently mowed down some corn stalks and had these little arrowhead looking stickers stuck in all my tires and one actually poked a hole in my front tire now I am worried every time I mow
What size tractor and who is it made by and whats the name of your bushhog and the size if I was to want one just like that it seems to do a very good job. Thanks for your time and your help in this matter
It's a pity no one have invented the perfect brushcutting implement for all chores. I always have to change to finish my work. I've a Huddig artic loader/backhoe but not enough crane arms to have multiple pads for chipping/stumpgrinding, hedgecutting, mowing ditches and also normal wide brushhogging! Any suggestions will be gratefully received. :D
It’s surprising how fast the woods reclaims the field if you don’t cut the brush. My my grandmother had 40 acres that the neighbor used to cut hay, after he died about 30 years ago you never know there was a hayfield here.
Pease be careful, next you cut that land, What horsepower does that tractor have, to run that bat mower and how wide is the mower, thanks for all great videos, love how cut firewood for the people that really need it.
Ranks with what my pasture looked like with weed height. Maybe a bit more with thick huisache and some type of blossoming tree. Definitely still smoother than mine. Only a 75hp mahindra and it drank fuel in 540E. No idea it was in 540E and not 540 but did the job well without comaint.
I remember mowing the state right away when I was at FDOT. With a Ford F 5000 tractor and a 15 foot batwing. How is it that the outside blades are cutting and the shaft doesn’t look like it’s moving.
reckon since you have mowed there before you have some what a lay of the land and potential hazards but just be extra careful near those banks...have seen some folks encounter problems with safety issues this year with their equipment...maybe its just the internet but a loss is a loss...pls note have never seen you do anything unsafe except maybe crawl up the accumulator from the back and go to the front(top) lol
I like my offset flail mower especially in areas I don’t know. One strip up the middles of the field and work out, means the tractor is never in danger and the mower takes any punishment 🙂
Good morning Dennis. Nice mowing job. I bet the batwing is a great tool. Did u have to sharpen the blades before u started this mowing of weeds. Looks great when u finished. Enjoyed watching. If u could get raid of weeds this would make a good hay field? Thanks 🙏
I would keep that cell out of your front shirt pocket and on a belt holder. It could effect your heart after prolonged use. Look into "Reiko" cell phone belt pouch.
When you shift to reverse is it the same speed as you were going forward or is it a slower speed. If not is there a setting to make it slower in reverse with out changing gears.
Dennis, with the extent you brush hog, have you done any videos on your rotary mower maintenance? Everyone has their certain ideas along with manufacturer recommendations, and I'm curious how you keep your blades. How sharp, how often you hit the edges, and how often you replace them.
Looks like goldenrod that’s already dropped seeds. I’m trying to get it out of my pasture without having to kill everything else that’s growing. Good times!
I Guess I'm Not The Only 1 Who Says Nooks & Crannies. It's Either A Country Saying Of A Southern Saying. That Tractor Doesn't Even Know That Bat Wing Is Behind It
Can't be a southern thing - I've heard and used it since I was a child here in 1950s CT and my family heritage is New England since 1630 and New York since 1840.
My uncle was bush hogging about 20 years ago got his thumb pull off by one thin about 2 years after that he got off the tractor to close the gate and the bush hog roll back in to him and took both his legs off
The Best E brake / parking brake out there is a FE. Set the bucket to true verticle and drive it into the ground an inch or two ( enough to take SOME but NOT ALL of the weight off the front wheels) and idle down the engine RPMs. It won't move even if it's in gear. That much ground engagement will actually stall the engine at idle. sdh every tractor should have an FE

Do the same in my jd 5055e
Loader makes an excellent brush guard. Plus keeps screens and radiator cleaner. That John Deere just laughed at that brush.
Yeah it’s got the power! Haha

Coolest tractor I’ve ever seen. Also refreshing to see a proper bush hog set up for the job.
Thanks
You have the best camera quality I've seen yet
Nice set of blades on that bat-wing Dennis, it cuts really nice.
Thanks it does well
Wow that's awesome J.D at work getting them old weeed's turned over completely chopped up 😂 lol
Most people don t get to bushog brush like that. The JD and batwing set-up sure handles the task. Thanks.
Great video Dennis. Bushoging was one of my favorite things to do, growing up on the farm.
Yeah mine too.
I just bought a 4708 Massey and a Rhino cutter and i
I am doing some mowing as a side job. Your videos have been great for me. Thanks

We had 10 walking floors for hauling shavings to chicken houses, down to 8 now, wrecked 1 and sold 1..great trailers for handling wood waste.
Yea they are
Awesome Dennis I love them bat wing mowers they handle alot of ditches easy
Also looks awesome great job brother

Tractors and attachments are so much different now.
It’s surprising how fast the woods reclaims the field if you don’t cut the brush. My my grandmother had 40 acres that the neighbor used to cut hay, after he died about 30 years ago you never know there was a hayfield here.
Yeah it happens fast if you don’t maintain it.
Pease be careful, next you cut that land, What horsepower does that tractor have, to run that bat mower and how wide is the mower, thanks for all great videos, love how cut firewood for the people that really need it.
The tractor has about 140hp and the mower is 15 feet wide.

Be thankful for that cab I don't have one I sneeze my fool head off bush hogging
I was thinking the same thing. Wish I had one
Hey Dennis, do you have to rake up all those cut weeds after this, or is that the job of the property owner?
I remember mowing the state right away when I was at FDOT. With a Ford F 5000 tractor and a 15 foot batwing. How is it that the outside blades are cutting and the shaft doesn’t look like it’s moving.
The inside shaft is turning but the guards are not.
I love mowing in a cab, no ticks, chiggers, snakes, spiders, etc
Agreed
Dennis, do you ever push the mower back under the trees to keep the edges cut back? Mother Nature likes to work her way in!
Yes I do
Great video.
Thanks
A certain fellow in our area ruined a new 8’ bush hog when he hit a huge rock. One of the blades cut a large gash in the deck.
I’ve seen that happen before
Just letting you know it's not necessary to pay me for all the time I'm on the job with you, I enjoy going for the ride.😉
Haha

I love to cut brushy fields but your bat wing blows my 6 ft cutter away 😂
Once you go bat is hard to go back. Haha
I like my offset flail mower especially in areas I don’t know. One strip up the middles of the field and work out, means the tractor is never in danger and the mower takes any punishment 🙂
Guess that works
I have a grapple on the front of mine, form and function. I can move loggs, brush, rocks, etcetera.
Good plan!
Good morning Dennis. Nice mowing job. I bet the batwing is a great tool. Did u have to sharpen the blades before u started this mowing of weeds. Looks great when u finished. Enjoyed watching. If u could get raid of weeds this would make a good hay field? Thanks 🙏
I do sharpen them if needed

Bush hogging is very satisfying. Looks fun.
When you shift to reverse is it the same speed as you were going forward or is it a slower speed. If not is there a setting to make it slower in reverse with out changing gears.
On my 6330 reverse was actually faster than forward surprisingly. Same gear and range but it was about .3 mph or so faster. Weird
Mine is close to the same speed both ways
The mower would be superb if it had the ability be moved left or right behind the tractor
What do you use to film with?
GoPro 4 on this one
@@DLHFarms is that what you still use now?
Sometimes. I mostly use a GoPro 9 now but the sound isn’t as good so I use a DJI mic with it
Would be nice to see you clean that land up then you could make hay on it the bush hog is doing a great job
I really don’t want any more hay land at the moment, not that far from home anyway
That thing is a beast
👍
What model is this mystery tractor?

Dennis, with the extent you brush hog, have you done any videos on your rotary mower maintenance? Everyone has their certain ideas along with manufacturer recommendations, and I'm curious how you keep your blades. How sharp, how often you hit the edges, and how often you replace them.
We just touch them up when they look bad if the get really bad or bent we replace them.
@@DLHFarms Touch them up just using an angle grinder? Or do you take them off and put them in a vise?
@@gckshea we use an angle grinder while they are on the machine we don’t take them off unless they are being replaced

If I’m going to ride with you bring some snacks and nabs
Is it just me or are the pto shaft not spinning on the wings
It’s just the guard that’s not spinning the shaft inside of that is spinning.
wow that does a good job
Sure does thanks!
Great work man. What is the working speed?
About 4mph
Nice rig ...!
Thanks
whys the right batwing shaft not spinning.
The guards don’t spin they have chains holding them
You can't avoid what you can't see
Cut a little brush and you could make ya another hay field
I could but it’s to far from home for me to be interested.
Polk stalks can get slimey
Hey Dennis you planning on doing any log splitting videos here soon?
Yes I plan too. I started to film one the other day but it got cut short because something else came up
@@DLHFarms Awesome thanks for the response can't wait to check out the log splitting video. Take care Dennis.
