I use my bucket as a early warning device against unseen rocks and stumps. I roll back rhe bucket so that if it does hit something it would slide over the rock without coming to a dead stop giving me time to deal with the rock before the brush hog finds it.. I enjoy your videos. Eric

Hard to do that in rough fields like mine is. My 6ft and my 12ft batwing have many loose bolts due to hitting so much crap. Blades look great though. Might need a sharpening already.

Well, just like going down memory lane. I remember having to check all the grease points on my 15 foot batwing mower. I remember having a check the main gearbox it’s at the head of the mower to make sure it had enough heavy grease in it then as you went back on the two shafts drove the outbound blades. There was two grease fittings there. Then there were another grease fitting near the centrifugal clutch and having a check the clutches on both sides making sure they weren’t burnt. Overall, it was a fun job and it didn’t pay too bad.

I was going through the woods yesterday and did what you were talking about with the loader. You described it perfectly to use it as a "feeler" it also serves well to scoot logs and fallen trees out of the way. Just a heads up: if there's lots of trees (either standing or fallen) be careful that they don't collide/rotate/slide around to where the other end gets up under the tractor (I'm sure you know that but just a heads up because it can happen fast lol)

I was out brush hogging a state line where the high tension power lines were over head (we own 360 acres and it’s split in the northern side of the property by Ohio and Michigan) I was probably a quarter mile off of the gravel path and I was on an old Ford 4000SU and she started sputtering and quit and wouldn’t start back up. I thought it was fuel related but turned out the coil finally bit the dust. Anyway I called for some help and they brought a HPX Gator and I’ll be damn we hooked her up and it pulled my ass all the way back to the shop!

Set the bucket to true verticle and drive it into the ground an inch or two ( enough to take SOME but NOT ALL of the weight off the front wheels) and idle down the engine RPMs. It won't move even if it's in gear.
