- Hey guys! In today's video I go in depth on how much I make as a home care registered nurse in CA. I talk about my starting pay as a new grad and the progression of pay in the last 15 months. I also discuss my biggest nursing pay that I've received so far. I provide screen shots of my actual pay stubs to show you guys the break down of my gross pay, total deductions, and my total take home pay.
I want to be as transparent as possible on my nursing journey so you guys can benefit as well! If you're looking to work outpatient and am worried about getting a pay cut, I hope this video helps!
To all my WCU nursing students or those thinking of going to WCU, I hope you find this video informative on the financial side of your nursing journey.
Thank you guys for watching & if you need any help, you can always reach out to me on Instagram @kriziaann__ .

Congrats :) your job sounds less stressful than inpatient. I am in NorCal/bay area. Hospital nurses usually get lots of Ot too. My biggest gross check was maybe 16k (2 week). I worked 4-16hr shifts each week. I made about 32k gross that month
👏must have been a tough month! But seeing that check must have been very nice!
@@nurse_krizia yeeeees haha. Thanks for the transparency in the video too
@@oliverlikescheetos thank you for watching! I just realized you’re the Oliver from Jason’s video! Lol thank you for being as transparent too!
Woah!! Are you a new grad nurse? Which hospital?
Damn son
Congratulations, Krizia! I’ve been watching your videos and you’re an inspiration! Thanks for sharing your experiences and being so transparent. Currently taking my pre reqs to get into Nursing school. ☺️
Thank you for these videos Krizia! They're very inspiring and give me hope! I really appreciate the pay transparency because I also have student debt and has been stressful but I feel less anxious now that I've come across your content!
Thank you for watching! Student debt is so stressful! Reviewing your monthly spendings and monthly bills help so much! I just look at my student debt bills as a car bill, mortgage, etc lol makes me feel better!
Thanks for being so transparent! Always look forward to your videos! ❤️
Thank you for watching and for your support!
girl you are saving me. I have been waiting years to get accepted to a CC with no luck. I'm a CNA of 3 years and I know patient care. I wanna do my BSN so bad but i'm on my own. you make me feel like my dream is possible :')
I start Nursing school this week. You can do this ✨
You did good job and deserve what you get!

As a fellow CA nurse I APPRECIATE your transparency, I enjoy your videos
Thank you so much for watching! 🙌🏼
Thanks a lot for being so transparent I really appreciate that it really helps to make a big decisions
This is very inspiring for me. At 40 am determined to pursue nursing after working 18years from corp HR related job in medeast.
35 year old HR professional (California) here, I started on a pre-requisites back in September. I am hoping to get into an ADN program by the time I am 39.
Thank you for sharing this information! I can’t find any videos thats go into detail like this.
Yay! Glad you found this helpful and informative!
Thank you for breaking it down. I just started a home infusion job and now I’m excited to make good money away from the hospital. I also live in SoCal.
How is the at home infusion job?
Way to go!!
Dayum… you go girl.. get that money… great video
Thank you for watching!!! I watched your video with Jason and you inspire me!!! I just started watching your 400k salary video, and love the content! Thank you for being transparent, it’s helped me realize the importance of working smarter and not harder
Thanks for sharing I never knew outpatient nursing paid so we'll. Congrats 🎉🎉
It does! Just gotta find the right ones!
First comment. I start west coast in January with most of the pre reqs out of the way!
Thank you for watching!!! So exciting, you got this!!
Good Information!!
Thank you!! I can't believe how much money you can make already. Way to go, Krizia! What's your exact title again? And you work for a private company, correct? I want to do research. Thanks again!!
thank you! My title is a Home Health RN. Yes, I work for a private company!
You are an inspiration girl... Please feature admitting home health patient please
I'm sure you'll be CCM
Hi Krizia. I’m excited & anxious to start nursing school next year. I took all my pre- requisites classes in a community college. The school gave me my school schedule already for the first term. The classes that I will be taking are Critical Reasoning- GE class & First Year Seminar- GE class too.
I’m scared to fail nursing school
I want to study a little bit to know what to expect for next year. I don’t know what to study for those subjects. Do you mind telling me how can i study please?
I will really appreciate it 🙏🙏
Thank you!
If you'd like to prepare, I suggest getting the patho book! Patho is the basic fundamentals to nursing and understanding the patho helps a lot during core. The critical reasoning and FYS class are not something to worry about.
Hi Krizia Does WCU have the 3 strikes and you are out on your competencies and care plans? I know that all the public schools do it that way and it adds so much more stress. Thanks again!
Gurl, I’m so glad I found you. I start core next month at La Palma campus. I’m almost done with Patho right now. I’m not sure if I can work full time once I start core. I’m so anxious because testing methods will change to ATI. Any study tips? I’ll look for the videos you previously uploaded. Thank you 😊
Thanks for the video. Very informative. What home health would you recommend as the best to work with flexible hours?
Any company that offers per diem! For per diem, they send you a case to visit and can be a one time visit or multiple visits. But you schedule all the appointments.
Do you recommend getting the LVN at a community college ? or a credited trade school? So proud of you . ❤your of to a great start! Within your life.
Hey! I suggest to get your LVN at a community college to save money! Some credited trade schools may not include full certifications. For example, I had a friend who went to California career institute and said they weren’t IV certified. I’m not sure how true it is now, but make sure to look at all those certifications and all the accreditations!
@@nurse_krizia Thanks love ❤️
Thanks for sharing and being so transparent. I’m currently a WCU student in advance med surg. My graduation date is Jan 2023. How did you study for NCLEX? I hear uworld is the way to go.
You’re at the home stretch!!! I did the ATI green light to get some money back lol and then uworld.
@@nurse_krizia Hey, i'm at West Coast too, but in Intermediate Med Surg. I do plan on doing the green light program at the end, but i am so far from graduation that I haven't really looked into it. What do you mean by you get money back by doing the ATI green light program? (I feel like i never know whats going on at West Coast lol, I'm just going with the flow lol. )
@@mayflower1322 hey! If you finish the ATI green light and pass on the first try on the NCLEX you get like $500 back from the school. It’s an incentive to have you do the program and pass on the first try to increase their NCLEX pass rates
@@nurse_krizia girl your so lucky you took the nclex when you did, we gotta take the new generation one which sounds like a pain in the ass lol
i used to work in Beverly Hills, but i lived in Bellflower. I took a bike to the bus that took me to the green line train, then to the blue line, then to the red line that dumped me off at Wilshire blvd and then i took a rapid bus the rest of the way. it took 2 hours each way. then i got a car. no help there. still 2 hours plus on the 91 to the 710 to the east LA interchange nightmare, to the 10. Horrible!!
I love your videos! I go to WCU Anaheim campus & in OB term right now. I got offered a PCT job part time. Would you say it would be manageable with this current term & moving forward
thank you so much! I went to WCU Anaheim too! It is manageable during OB term, that was when I started my job as well. I did per diem though. I worked with other students who were part time and had a hard time managing school and work. Working in the hospital was draining and made it difficulty for me to come home and study after a shift.
Love this transparency. Can I ask how much do you on average on student loans?
Do you get paid per visit? I like it better than hourly. I’m a home health RN too. I have been with my home health company for 9 years. I worked my way up from HHA, LVN, and then RN. I’m in the Bay Area so most home health companies pay $70-$90/visit and up to $150 for a SOC.
Hey! I get paid per hourly. Down here, visits usually range from $50-$70 and SOC $90-100. It also depends on the company but some have been switching over to hourly pay.
Now that you are a few months in can you make another day in the life of a home health RN and the things you do?
What company are you working for? Still hiring? WCU graduate Jan 2021 here (license in July and started working around OCT). Currently working on a Tele unit night shift. New grade rate here is $47 with $5 night shift differential. So around $52/hourly. Kinda want to look a for regular hour job 😅.
Send me a message on Instagram @kriziaann__
@MadPanda what hospital if you can share.
I make 49.78 in outpatient setting (Dermatology) I live in Michigan our nurses do not make that type of money. I wish we did but I understand your cost of living is significantly higher too. Our nurses may earn as high as $65 but they may be in mgmt or do travel/agency.
Hey, you and i have about the same mouth of of debt, how do you go about paying for it? Like im getting anxiety attacks just thinking about it. Can you please share your plan to pay off your loans?
Krizia I enjoy your videos. I'm a new nurse doing inpatient on a med-surg unit. The HH companies want 1yr experience should I still apply?
Yes! It’ll say 1 year required or preferred!
I'm an RN with hospital experience. I'm very interested in home health. Can you do a video talking about the charting training? Do you use Oasis? Also, what type of skills do you need- do you see trach care and wound vac care often? Will HH train for these? How much training and orientation did you get? Thank you!
Thank you for watching! Each company is different when it comes to charting training, but overall you learn the most when you do it yourself on real patients. They provide you with step by steps or videos to review with.
We do use OASIS. We don’t normally get trach patients or wound vac patients. But lost skills needed are wound care, patient education, and blood draws.
@@nurse_krizia Thanks so much sweets! I did go ahead and apply for HH and I start in Jan. Your vlog was a positive influence and helpful for me to take the leap of faith out of the blasted hospital!
@@Luke747gal congrats!!! It’s a big learning curve but once you get a good handle on it, you’ll realize how rewarding it is!
@@JM-gc8fn I'm an experienced nurse so the actual hands on assessment and interactions with patients are fun and easy.
But the oasis charting plus narratives are a beast. The writing a plan of care with measrable goals nightmare from nursing school is a thing again. Uuugh. And heres another truth nobody told me...i spend 2-3 hours everyday that I'm not paid for responding to emails, making phone calls to PCP offices, scheduling patients or rescheduling patients who aren't answering their phone. ( I get paid per visit not hourly) There is some frustration when you see your CHF patient with BLE +4 pitting edema, breathing is moderately labored but isn't taking his lasix cuz it "makes him pee all the time and it's too hard to walk to the bathroom thst many times." Some of the same noncompliant attitudes we see in the hospital. All we can do is reinforce education.
@@Luke747gal wow. Thank you for that review. Are you still on home health?
What was your hardest class at West Coast? I go there & I’m in Patho right now, start core in October (:
I'd say the first term! It was such a big change going from patho to starting core. I feel like a lot of students struggled with the transition due to the change of the exam format. Once you develop how to study for core, all terms felt similar.
Definitely use Patho &’ funds terms to explore study techniques and see what fits best for you. Your study techniques will vary slightly based on class and prof but your study habits remain fundamentally the same. Also practice time management starting now. Good luck
What is about health insurance? In Germany will deduct from your salary and then you don‘t need to pay the hospital costs
Hi, how is WCU OC? Cause I am in Ontario and I an so fed up with them. The communication is horrible it takes them a week to respond to an email. And this is frustrating when you are at a time limit to get things done. 😑 and you can never see anyone in person. Is it better? Should I transfer?
I graduated January 2021 and I'm sure there were a lot of changes made so I can't comment on how the communication is now. If you are thinking of transferring, it is a very lengthy process.
50 an hour thats awesome. I cant wait :)
What are you thoughts on getting paid salary as a home health nurse?
How Is West Coast? I was thinking of going there. I just need a few more requirement classes before I can apply for the program. I get to go on a tour next week at west coast.
Expensive, would recommend you finish gen ed at community and then transfer credits
Agree^^ try to save as much as you can! It also depends on your goals, WCU is a fast paced program if you want to finish as fast as possible.
@@madpanda9883 Yeah I just need 5 more GE classes left and I was planning on going to West Coast after because the community colleges are so competitive and I don't want to keep trying to get Into the programs from there because It could take me years to get In. I am 25 years old and I really wanna be done by 28 years old.
@@nurse_krizia Right now I am working full time and I just paid off my car so I am saving 429$ a month from that and I am hoping I will start West Coast June date for the program
Do you get overtime opportunities in home health?
Sooo how do we change that status from S to M 🧐
Hi Krizia. How are you?
I will be attending West Coast University-Anaheim campus until next year 2023. I’m thinking to rent a room near the campus and I’m also thinking to take my small dog with me. For any chance do you know a place where they accept dogs & is near the campus too?
Thank you!
hey! sorry for the late reply. DM me on instagram @ KriziaAnn__, we have a facebook WCU-OC page where other students post about rooming with other roommates.
Applying cali nurse here!! Where would you recommend I rent a house in California?
❤❤❤❤❤🎉
Hello! Currently work as a RN at PIH! Im very interested in home health. Can you share me what company do you work for? Thank you.
What did you do for the 3 months that you had off before starting your first job ? ❤️
I worked at Kaiser as a student nurse support for covid
Do you do oasis charting
I’m in CA too and omg the taxes 😩😩 it feels like robbery
How do you adjust in terms of having to go to peoples homes? Would love to try home health but always felt iffy about that.
You just get used to it! There’s a lot of factors when going into a new home, parking, finding the right home/apartment room, etc. You just need to be respectful. There are beautiful million dollar home I’ve walked into and also small shacks or walls covered in cigarette stains. But in the end, it’s always about being respectful!
@@nurse_krizia ah I see that’s awesome. Do you have to do bed baths too or is it mainly skill based stuff?
@@royjohnson9043 no bed baths and rarely do incontinence care. I only do incontinence care prior to foley cath insertions. You go in and do the required skill need, vital signs, education, etc. pretty straightforward
@@nurse_krizia awesome !
This makes me want to move out of FL asap Omg!😂
Hi love your videos can you please share the company that you are working for I'm a new grad and this sounds like something I'm interested in
thank you for watching! Unfortunately I do not share which company I work for unless you're from the same area as me. I would advise to start looking on indeed. There are companies that hire new graduates but most hire with at least 1 year home health/hospice experience. You just have to find a company willing to hire new grads, get that 1 year experience and find a higher paying job!
I’m about to get my one year as an RN in the hospital and trying to make my next move out of the hospital while making good money. If anyone has any advice let me know lol
New Las Vegas Brandnew Grad $55.!per hour!
Are they hiring I live in the area
ASN ICU RN making more with less taxes (no state income tax)
Nice! Which state and how many years of experience? I’d like to get an idea from other nurses around the US!
@@nurse_krizia 1 yr Texas. Every extra shift comes with ot plus bonus!
@@ChristopherInTexas OT is where it’s at!
Which part of Texas?
From the picture of your paycheck, I guess you are a W-2 employee. Working in CA, you pay a lot of taxes. I would love to help you save on taxes and critical illness insurance. You are still young and may change job in the future, it will make better sense to get your own policy. It will be cheaper and not to worry about losing policy or waiting to enroll when you change job. Let me know if you need more info.
$2,302.28 in deductions??? thats crazy
Which company is this
No wonder I pay so much for healthcare and get very little. After 8 hours a day working, what quality of healthcare can patients actually get?
I just hate the amount you are getting deducted from each pay check. It's just crazy.
West Coast University got a lot of bad review for that school.
Do you need a public health nurse license?
No, it’s not required but it does look good on the resume!
Why do they take out so much taxes ? I live in Orange County as well but taking out 3k is insane to me. Is it different when you have a dependent ?
Yes, they take out less tax if you have dependents.
nclex test is really difficult, I can't believe I failed again after studying so much 😥😥
Nclex exams won't bother you or be a problem if you work with someone like Mrs maria... She's God sent, she saved me from taking the test for the 6th time
I saw someone say she could be a scammer i couldn't stop laughing, really people say a lot of shit these day's
@Agnes Cury She doesn't have a Facebook page, an Instagram page, or a CZcams channel, why?!!!..This is a back door we're talking about, not some kind of extra classes, you really won't expect her to have a Facebook page, it's not safe for her.
i was lucky to meet Mrs Maria only God knows I wouldn't have succeeded without her succeeded without her
Mrs Maria is obviously the best, i studied her questions and answers just in 5 days and I passed, the materials she provided was exactly the questions I saw on my test day
25 years old making more money than 4 star General in US Army
You make more then 200,000 as a nurse ????
Is $56 on market for California?? It’s a good amount but seems low for the cost of living ??
It’s pretty good pay for only having 18 months RN experience! With my pay, cost of living in my area is only about 30% of my monthly salary (mortgage, bills, etc) I don’t have any car payments and split my bills with my husband.
I am Canadian and work in ICU 15 years experience how much would be the usual perhour rate? thanks Thinking of moving to california
@@lesleyanndelacruz6347 depends on which part of California! Southern California has less pay. My mom has been a tele nurse 30 years, pay is about $70/hour. But in Northern California, probably very high $90s. Honestly, don’t count me on the pay. But Check out Nurses to Riches on CZcams, he provides actual pay contracts based on experience.
Definitely not low lol
Nursing sucks. Worst decision you can ever make.
I cannot wait to pursue my career 🥹
