@FJLocHD I thought that too but he was 16. This was 24th July and his birthday was 30th June. But he did break the world record on 30th March that year when he was still 15
Yeah! Most alpha style swimming if you ask me. This style needs strenght.
I used to be a national top swimmer in my age class back in the days and at 16 I had hard times to swim this time... in FREESTYLE!
This performance is just out of this world. You could compare it to hurdle sprinter being as fast as a flat sprinter on the same distance... I have no words.

The morning after this race, MP picked up a newspaper with a front page titled, "Teenage Stars Thorpe and Phelps Break Records" and thought what was he doing on the same page as Ian Thorpe. Little did he know he would surpass his idol in ways he never dreamed of.

Good question. Probably because in general officials are biased toward pro swimmers and afraid of the controversy of DQ-ing an elite level athlete. Since Esposito wasn't really benefitting from this kick he wasn't really flutter kicking, it was probably allowed.
