@G F Yes 1978-79 Punk began to be popular. This movie is not about punk. It is about the great Alternative vinyl Lable "Factory Records" 1979-1984. New Order Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, Happy Mondays etc !980's bands
I had no idea this movie was about this. I thought it was a human traffic esque movie. This is on my watch list now.

Simon really disappears into the role. I didn't know it was him. To be honest, I'm not even sure which character he was playing. He's just that good in this.

I love how Steve cooing just pretty much did his Alan Partridge character if Alan was way cooler and Somehow, that seems to be exactly what the real Tony Wilson was like.

IMO opinion the ONLY good memoir-ish “rock &roll” movie / drama that tries to “capture an era”.
Accomplishes the storytelling vibe and depth in a mere 90 minutes that HBO’s bloated “Vinyl” failed to get off the launching pad after 8 long hours in its one and only season.
Let’s face it, rock movies take themselves far far too seriously which inevitably makes them un-cool. Like a great 2 minute Ramones or Chuck Berry song 24hr PP is a masterpiece of economy. In a weird way it actually reminds me a bit of a debauched punk versions of one of those those 90 minute Busby Berkeley movies from the 1930s. VERY “rock and roll”.
165Dash Vinyl was a great on HBO They just never gave it a chance I was hoping it would get at least a couple of years of playtime but it never did too bad because I really liked it I think a lot of people did but it’s funny how TV is today specially HBO they are a little bit quick on the trigger and besides the 70s 80s were coolThe fashion the music the cars the girls even the dudes are cool it was a great time and so cool to be in to music it really was it’s just to bad sad in a way ......
Almost famous works ok.. Esp when you know Cameron Crowe's history and who the fictional characters are supposed to be
